Chapter 25 Those Who Died in the Past
Annie pushed her drip stand towards her hospital room, and Fiona happened to have bought porridge and saw her getting up, so she hurried over.
"You just got your fever down and wandered around like crazy. Do you want to die?" Fiona sat Annie down on the bed and lectured her with a stern face. "You have heart disease; don't you know how to be careful?"
Annie's heart warmed as she smiled slightly. "I'm going to get my report."
Fiona opened the lid of the porridge box while speaking to Annie. "I'll help you get it. What are you walking around for?"
After finishing speaking, she reached out with concern again. "Where is the report? Let me see it."
Annie blinked but didn't want to lie to Fiona, yet still went against her own will and said: "I took it to show the doctor; I left it in their consultation room."
Fiona didn't think much of what Annie said but was only concerned about her health. "What does the report say?"
Annie replied calmly: "It's just a blood test; there's nothing wrong."
Fiona stopped stirring the cold porridge with chopsticks and seriously looked at Annie. "You're not an ordinary person; you have heart disease, so a blood test is one of the most important checks."
Annie smiled faintly. "I know that already; all doctors said everything is normal with my heart, so don't worry about me."
Only then did Fiona relax and handed over the cooled strawberry milkshake that Annie loved eating most.
Annie took it from her hand using a spoonful method into her mouth.
Looking at Annie's pale complexion, Fiona hesitated whether or not she should ask if Luke was still deeply rooted in Annie's memory. However, she didn't want to touch on Annie's sore spot.
Fiona thought for a long time and ultimately chose to keep quiet. Luke was already someone who died in the past; bringing him up would only cause more trouble.
Annie had eaten half of the bowl when she felt complete. She put down her spoon and asked Fiona: "Shouldn't you be going to work now?"
Fiona pointed at her watch. "It's this late; what work is left for me?"
"Then what about you..."
"I took two days off to accompany you."
Fiona lay down on the empty bed beside them. "This is also an opportunity for me to rest well."
Annie smiled softly. "Thank you, Fiona."
Fiona waved her hand and yawned before saying: "Annie, I'm going to take a nap first; call me if anything happens."
Annie nodded slightly. "The doctor doing rounds is here; sleep well without worries."
Only then did Fiona close her eyes and fall asleep exhaustedly.
Fiona worked night shifts most of the time as a nightclub employee, which was very busy and tiring.
She failed to get into college, so she lacked the qualifications that could land her comfortable office jobs like other white-collar workers.
After graduating from high school, she couldn't find any good job opportunities but still wanted to establish herself in New York City, so she went into the nightlife entertainment industry instead.
At first, she worked as a salesgirl but later became a manager due to excellent performance records over several years of hard work.
After struggling for several years while buying houses and cars, she achieved some success despite being particularly tired all these years.
Fortunately, Fiona found herself quite a reliable boyfriend with whom they were getting married the next month on the 9th day after their engagement period ended soon enough afterwards.
Once married, she could get rid of her orphan status and rebuild her own family.
Although Fiona had been working hard all these years, there was always hope for her future.
As for Annie, she didn't expect much more from life. If she could live until Fiona's wedding day and see her off to marriage, then it would be enough without any regrets.
