Jason POV
Today is the day... 🤰🏽🗣👶🏽
It was a misty Tuesday morning when I zoomed out of the office. I looked down on my reminders list and saw the notification "Today is the day."
I was excited yet nervous about Violet's labor. Jessica had texted me that she arrived at the hospital with Aubree and Caesar.
Incoming call, Cameron
"Yeah, dude I'm on my way," I said, knowing what Cameron was going to say to me.
"Uh... I wasn't going to say that but okay."
I snickered. "Dude. I know you, you were going to say it regardless."
"Maybe, maybe so. How far are you?"
"Just pulled up and parking right... now."
"Alright see you."
After ending up the call, I parked near the entrance in front of the hospital. I switched out my suit and replaced it with my Forrest Green Nike shirt.
Leaving the parking lot, I head over to the front desk and asked for a visitation pass.
''Hi, I would like a visitation pass,'' I said to the middle-aged woman.
As she attempted to hide her face behind her chalky-white fingers, her cheeks became a color to rival the rose-pink hue of her nail polish and shone through the gaps.
She must be about forty-seven or forty-eight years old I'm guessing. She looked back up at me; a gentle flush of pink had arisen in her cheeks that made her look vulnerable.
''Uh. M'am,'' I said to her.
''Yes, anything you want,'' she replied.
''My visitation pass?"
She shook her head, realizing that she was hypnotized by me. ''Sorry, I heard something else.''
I drew a fake smile. ''Yeah, okay.''
Her eyes locked in mine as she continues to type in the computer for my visitation pass. She printed the pass and places it on top of a tag.
''You know, I have a nice down in Houston,'' she winked.
''Uh no thank you aha, I'm good..''
''It's okay, rumor has it that you're into a black woman. My niece is half-back and white.''
''Thank you but I'm engaged.''
''Hard to believe.''
''Well, believe it,'' I emphasized the believe it.
''C'mon she's from Texas, everything is big in Texas,'' she winked at me, sizing me up and down.''
''You hear something?'' I joked.
''Hear what?''
''Aha, would you look at the time, I should go.''
''--Jay,'' Cameron said jumping up and down near the elevator.
''Thank God,'' I mumbled under my breath and went over to Cameron, doing our normal handshake.
''What took you so long?'' He asked.
''Honestly, you don't want to know,'' I laughed.
''What? An old lady trying to holla at my boy? I'm telling you, man, you're like a magnet to these type of women.''
I snickered. ''Yeah, I know that. Anyways, how is she?''
''She's ready.''
Adrenaline was coursing through my veins. My hands were trembling and my eyes were wide. oh my gosh
''Now?!''
''Yes! Now!"
-----
''Ten centimeters, your baby girl is ready,'' Dr.Parker said to me. I placed the mask on with gloves and walked over to Violet who was laying down, as sweat drip down on her face.
''Hey baby,'' I said to her.
''What took you so long?'' She snapped.
''Uhh, I was taking a visitation pass?'' I questioned, even though it was the labor talks. She looked super annoyed and didn't say a word to me.''Baby, take a deep breath, okay. I'm here, everything is going to be okay.''
''I want this baby out of me,'' she pulls me closer.
''I agree,'' I nodded. At this point, I was absolutely afraid of mean Violet. She was sweaty, her eyes were darker than ever and she was extremely snappy; which I don't blame her at all. Carrying a human inside of you until nine to ten months is dreadful.
I think my heart will explode and my eyes are wide, letting in every ounce of the fading light.
''It's okay, Violet we need you to push as hard as you can,'' Dr. Parker said.
''Hold my hand,'' she snapped at me again.
I let out a soft chuckle.
Oh man, I can't wait to tell our daughter about this day.
''You're doing good, Violet, push hard!'' Dr.Terzian.
''Yes baby, keep going!'' I encouraged.
''Yes, one more, push! And there she is!" Dr. Terzian said. ''Good job Violet.''
The sobs were stifled at first as I attempted to hide my excitement, then overcome by the wave of my emotions I would break down entirely, all my defenses washed away in those salty tears.
Violet touched my chin and sheds a tear. ''She's here,'' she whispered.
''I know baby, our baby girl is here,'' I whispered back.
I watch my newborn baby peer through brand new eyes at what must be such a strange world afterlife in the womb. Her legs kick in a tiny jagged motion, looking for that resistance they are used to.
''There she is,'' Violet said, holding her. ''She looks exactly like you, it's so crazy.''
''I know, and she got her mommy's hair,'' I laughed.
''Yes, so much hair,'' She laughed with me.
''Can I hold her?''
''Of course,'' she hands me over our girl, gently into my arms.
''Hi sweetie, hi.'' Her little face glowed from a light within, and her miniature fingers grasped mine and held tight. She knows!
''Emilia,'' I whispered.
''Emilia?'' Violet questioned.
''It's Nonna's name,'' I looked back to her.
''I love it.''
''Really?''
''Emilia Renèe Vella.''
''Sounds beautiful,'' I laughed. Her newborn baby smile was as sweet as a summer strawberry and filled me with a ray of sunshine I never knew existed in the world.
Her eyes are more brilliant than I could have dreamed they would be, her hands more delicate. She feels so light, looks so perfect and smells so divine. I am her protector for as long as I live and my love for her will last for all time.
This is a new person, and I'm already filling up with love for her.
