Fourteen

Within the hour I saw Gwenn, I was back in my tent, lying on the bed and feeling sick. I would like to blame everything on my encounter with Gwenn but I knew it wasn’t that after all, she didn’t have that much power over me even though I wanted nothing more than try to take her head off.
No, what was happening was all me, my body was reacting just like the way, my mother linage always react whenever their visions was trying to warn them of something. Not really like a vision but I could not explain it, after living all my life with this gift of sight, it still manages to leave me fumbling for words to describe what was going on. It was still related to the visions but this was more like a feeling or knowing, that something was going to happen and I had the power to change it if I wanted to.

The feeling, I was getting was a bad one and I wanted to change it. I signed as my guard called for me from outside the tent, I stood up and arranged myself properly before stepping out of the tent so that he could escort me to the war council tent where I was yesterday, I was supposed to have my noon meal with the Orel and I was sure that he always and his noon meal with his commanders.

I walked to the tent of yesterday then I called out before I stepped inside so as not to catch those in the middle of a sensitive issue that they were discussing and was not meant for my ears. As soon as I entered the tent, my eyes sought out Orel’s who was already watching me with a smile, I smiled back at him shyly, it was getting harder to put up a resistance to him but I was trying with everything I had.

“Wife.” His deep voice that send shivers through my veins called out in greeting to me as I smiled at him as I responded to his greeting.

“Husband.” I said as I walked to him, when I got close to him, he pulled me down into his laps as he nuzzled my hair. “Missed you.” I whispered as that only him could hear as he looked at me and turned my face to his. He stared into my eyes for a while searching for something, I knew that whatever he was searching, he saw it because he bent his head and gave me my first kiss.

I could think some minutes later when my senses returned as he raise his head from mine.

“Missed you too.” He replied.

“Isn’t this lovely.” A voice said behind me as I let out a gasp, people were in the room. I was so lost in the kiss that I didn’t even realize it.

“I think that we should give them privacy.” Another voice said as I shrank closer to Orel chest in mortification.

“No, I think we should excuse the warlord to dine with his wife for the noon meal and expect him back in two hours’ time, it is clear that they still need more time alone.” Elison said as I turned my head to glare at him and say something that I would not say with my mouth instead I called him a traitor using my eyes. When he saw my gaze, he started laughing. I growled in annoyance only to feel Orel chest moving. He was laughing too!

“Betrayer.” I muttered to Orel but it just increased his mirth as his chuckles no longer remained quiet.

“I think that we better stop, my wife will not be able to take the truants more quietly” Orel said as the men stopped laughing. A voice soon announced that the noon meal was soon to be served as the tent flaps were opened and different trays of food was brought in just like yesterday and like yesterday, the servers all averted their eyes from staring at any one while they bowed towards Orel direction, dropped the tray they were carrying and moved on quietly.

As we ate, the men talked about the different battalions under their regiment, Orel listen to all they said silently and when the meal was over, Orel started to talk about sending men out to hunt for meat. The feeling from earlier came back with full force, I must have made some sound because, Orel stopped talking and faced me looking worried.

“What’s wrong?” He asked.

“Nothing but could you not send them out today, I don’t think the weather is good for the hunt.” I lied easily as Orel corked his eyebrow.

“It is still early and the weather has been good all week. I think that we should send them.” Orel said but when I opened my mouth to say something else to continued. “Nothing will happen to them, they will go in groups and the camp need meat from this hunt. They will return tomorrow morning sound and you will realized that you are just worried about nothing.”

I farrowed my brows as I shook my head. No, those warriors will not be fine, something was going to happen to some of them. “Cannot you postpone the hunt for one more day?” I begged.

“Do you have a solid reason why” Orel asked I shook my head, I could not tell him that I just have a strong feeling which was telling me that they should not go.

“What is wrong?” A commander asked as Orel stop looking at my face to answer the man.

“Nothing Olyver. Just seeking the opinion of my wife in a certain issue.” Orel replied as the commander nodded and went back to the conversation at hand.

I tried to ignore the feeling in my body that all will not go right but it was hard.

“Why is Gwenn not here?” I asked out loud as the conversations and planning was put on hold.

“What?” Orel asked as he glanced at me.

“She is your third in command and I saw her training some Warriors today, why is she not here.” I asked as Elison and Orel exchanged gaze.

“She is been reassigned.” Elison answered carefully.

“You mean punishment for her stunt yesterday.” I corrected Elison as he deflated in his chair.

“I should have known that you will find out somehow, how did you know?” Elison said.

“I saw her this morning” I replied as I scoffed. “She explained what she did and apologize, I decided that there was no way we will ever be friends, and I am not friends with people I want to cut their heads off with a blunt sword.”

“I am sorr…” Orel started to apologize for Gwenn but I stopped him.

“Don’t, you did nothing wrong except spoil her and keep the information from me but it is not your place to apologize for her.” I stated firmly as Orel smiled.

“I better get going, I need to know Dyane tent and also see the other side of the camp close to us. I still haven’t explored where majority of the warriors stay yet.” I said as I stood up.

Just as I suspected, Orel growled out. “Themis.”

“Relax husband.” I laughed. “I will make sure that they are aware of who I am, although the two guards will clue them in on the fact that I am the wife of a very important person.” I smiled at Orel before I left the tent to continue my exploration.

************************************************************

Something pulled me towards a part of the camp in the evening, I knew that it was about time I turned back and start heading back to my tent so that I can finish taking my bath before Orel will arrive later in the evening, instead I came to a pause when I realized that Orel along with some of his commanders whose faces were familiar because of the war council I saw them in, they were standing in front of some warriors who I was pretty sure was up to a hundred, a minute part of Orel army. Orel was assigning them to different places to hunt. One of the commanders saw me and directed Orel attention to me.

Orel smiled when he saw me as he came to meet me. “You seem to be tied to me today.” He jokes as I scoffed as if the idea was ludicrous

“What are you doing?” I asked redirecting his attention back to the warriors standing before us.

“Oh, these are the people who are going to hunt this evening, they should be back tomorrow.”

My stomach drops at his words. “Please Orel, don’t send them out this evening.” I begged my husband who looked at me with confusion and impatience. “Cannot you just trust me on this without any proof?”

“I can if you provide me with a good reason.” Orel explained as I shook my head.

“I don’t have one.” I whispered. “I just have a feeling that not all of them will come back alive.”

“Just a feeling.” Orel asked as I nodded. “I know it is not good enough but please.” I begged my husband but he shook his head as he kissed my hair and whispered to my ears.

“Go to our tent and go and take you bath, I will join you shortly.”

I sighed as I moved away from him, I tried my best. Sometimes even the worst of my visions could not be changed.
