Fifteen
The night was not funny at all.
A huge storm rolled in when me and Orel were already in bed and it was so bad that some tent were being ripped out of their location.
Orel was called to help and for me not to be alone, Dyane was escorted to my tent where we both sat silently as we waited for the storms to be over, there was not much Orel could do at that moment other than to minimize the damage being done.
The rebuilding will be done after the storm but that was not what plagued me. What plagued me was the fact that there were warriors caught out in the rain and they must be very weary, with a storm like this, not all would return. I had already started my mourning of them.
“My lady, the warlord will be okay.” Dyane said when she noticed my tears.
I shook my head as I answered her “You would not understand.”
We were up all night and when the storm finally relented, Orel still didn’t come back to the tent, Dyane had to stay with me throughout the night.
The next morning, as soon as the light of the day was out, I was out of my tent with Dyane at my side as we try to help any way we could.
I did all I could to distract me from the thoughts that were going through my head but it keeps replying over my head. “Look, my lady. There is your husband.” Dyane voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
I looked up only for me to watch Orel and some other men pull a tent upright as others started tying ropes to the ground to keep the tent from falling again. I didn’t know if it was because he felt my eyes on him or something else but he turned and rested his gaze directly on me.
My heart skipped a beat at the sight of him unharmed as I relaxed a little bit, I didn’t think that some of the tension I was feeling was because I was worried about him. His eyes narrowed at me as if he was not pleased with the sight of me outside the tent.
“Sir, some of the scouts have returned.” A warrior said approaching my husband who nodded and then stretched his hand towards me, I walked to him directly because I knew that he wanted me by his side, and together we followed behind the warrior who came to deliver the news both of us quiet because Orel was certainly not in a good mood.
When we arrived at the place the warriors who returned where, my eyes became teary again as I realized that this was all that returned from their journey, they were less than half and most of them had some kind of injury.
When Dyane rushed forward and started instructing the women who were helping them already to clean the wound, which was when I realized that she followed us. I had forgotten about her and she must have kept quiet too recognizing the mood Orel was in.
“Orel, it wasn’t your fault.” I said when I looked into my husband eyes and saw regrets and grief there. “There was no way you would have known.”
“True but I would have listened to you.” Orel said as he pinned me in place with his stare. “Later on, I would like you to explain to me the extent of what you can do and how you do it.”
I froze at Orel’s word as fear held me in its grasp. “I have no idea what you are saying”
“Don’t insult my intelligence wife. You know exactly what you are saying. Twice since you came into my camp that you warned against an action and twice, serious repercussions came for ignoring your warnings. I would like to know how you do it and you know better than to lie.” Orel said looking directly into my face as he dares me without words to deny everything he just said.
I could keep his gaze anymore because it was getting hard, I lowered my eyes to the ground as I silently whisper. “Okay. I will tell you everything.” I said as he nodded.
“Good, I will get the information on what happened from then and when I get to the tent later, I want you to tell me everything.” Orel said as if he was clarifying the information I will give him, he doesn’t give an inch for anybody to make a mistake. I nodded to tell him I got what he was implying. “Good. Off you go.” He squeezes me then removed his arm from around my shoulders as he dismissed me with his words.
I turned and walked on shaky legs back to our tent, once there, I allowed the tears to flow free. I could not hide my gift from him, he will withdraw from me when he learns of what I can do, and he might doubt the attraction he had for me that made him save me.
Lying to him about what I can do is futile, he is extremely receptive to deceits and that is a sure way for him to never trust me again. The best I can do is to tell the truth even if it will cost me everything I have currently.
He might even decide that I was not worth the reason he saved me and he might have our marriage dissolved. I cannot go back to Sagedge and I have made powerful enemies not to be under his protection. More tears fall from my eyes as images flashed through my head, images of me losing my new life which I was slowly growing to love, images of me losing my life.
When the tent flap opened and Orel stepped in with Elison behind him, I was a mess as my face was swollen and red with tears still falling from my eyes.
“What did you do to her?” Elison asked as soon as he saw me.
