Fifty four

GWENN POV

“What the hell do the two of you think were you playing at?” Elison growls as he enters Themis tent to see Themis sleeping peacefully and I glared at him for not using his inside voice, I stood up from where I was sitting which was beside Themis on the bed where she was sleeping.

“What the hell do you think you were playing at, coming into her tent with no warning and shouting that way?” I answered him with my own questions.

“You two made me that way, why on earth will you blow the horn we use for emergency at war and made me think that something had happened to one of you, I was scared and worried.” Elison asked heatedly running his hand through his hair and face.

“Something did happen.” I replied as Elison glares at me.

“Really, something happened, Themis is in there sleeping peacefully and you are in front of me, acting catty as usual, I don’t see anything that has happened to either of you.”

“I never said that it happened to us… although it did give Themis extreme relief and reduced the stress on her shoulders.” I drawled, playing with him because I did not like his tone.

Elison slowly lost his angry expression, he was used to my attitude, he knew that until he apologizes to me, I will continue to drag out what had happened and I will not let him know.

“I am sorry, okay! Now please tell me what happened.” Elison demanded.

“That wasn’t even a real apology.” I complained.

“If you want flowers and sweet words with kneeling included, I am sorry but you just have to wait for your husband to cheat on you before you get them.” Elison rolled his eyes at me, his word cuts deep even though he did not know that that bastard had already cheated, I brushed off my feelings on the issue.

“Even when he cheated, I still didn’t get that kind of apology.” I said as Elison jerked back as if he was hit, my cheeks went red in embarrassment, I never wanted to admit that to anybody, maybe I should not have but Elison was not just anybody, he was one of my best and only friends.

“When I see that man, I will kill him.” Elison promises in low tones that spoke of his anger.

“Relax, I wasn’t around and he wanted to scratch the itch.” I said flippantly not meeting Elison eyes because even though my words show that I was not hurt, my eyes might call me out on my bluff.

“I do know that you itch too then but you also haven’t scratched it since you became married, that is not an excuse and you were not around because you were busy planning and fighting a war…not playing with dolls. I. Will. Kill. Him.” Elison repeated, this time with more venom in his tone.

“Don’t you want to know what happened anymore?” I asked, my tone turned desperate to remove the conversation from the area it was in.

“Is it more important than getting your husband to respect you?” Elison asked.

“Yes, it is. It is more important than any foreign prince or king currently.” I returned as Elison nodded.

“Okay, I am all ears.”

“Orel is back.” I said as my eyes got misty again, I didn’t know if whatever affected Themis to always be crying affected me too because since I heard of Orel’s return, I had been doing nothing but getting teary at the mere mention of Orel name.

Elison expression was dumbfounded. “Don’t pull my leg Gwenn, I am not in the mood for jokes or pranks. You don’t joke with this kind of thing. I need Orel to be back.” Elison seethed as I rolled my eyes through my tears.

“He is in Dyane’s tent.” I said as Elison took off on a run towards that direction, I followed behind him at a more leisured pace.

On getting there, I was shocked to see Elison on his knees besides Orel who was lying unmoving in the furs crying like a baby and not a hardened war commander. “Elison.” I asks softly.

“I was slowly thinking that I would never see him again, not whole or complete but he is and that all that matters.” Elison replied as he touches Orel and rearrange the furs around his friend.

“He might not be complete, he will have shadows and Darkness from what happened.” A voice said behind me and when I turn around in shock, Themis was there, our talks must have awoken her up.

“He has you, you will take care of the Darkness and shadow, you have changed him into a happier man once, and you and your babe will make sure that he reverts back to the Orel we know.” Elison replied as Themis nodded too choked up to say anything, her gaze turned gentle as she gaze at Orel and into something that resembled what I used to see on her face before I left for Northshore.

“What are you doing outside the bed Themis, when did you awake up.” I asked as I ushered Themis to sit down.

“During Elison shout.” Themis grimace as she rubs her tummy, she was slowly starting to show, it has been over three months according to Dyane calculations.

Elison had a sheepish look on his face as he apologizes. “I am sorry.”

“Its okay, how did the battle go?” Themis asks when she settled well into the seat where I put her.

“It went okay. We won, the other side retreated and I am starting to think that they will really smite us the next time they attack.” Elison said as Themis shook her head

“Not possible, we have Orel back. That will motivate our warriors to give their all.”

Before Elison could reply, the tent flap opened and Dyane gestured for us to leave the tent and we did, following her a good distance away from where Orel was. “Are you all insane?” Dyane questioned us, leveling a glare in our direction, mainly at me and Elison and less on Themis.

Will I get that kind of special treatment when I a pregnant among my husband’s people?

I removed my thoughts from there because I did not want to think of that. This was not the time.

“No, what happened.” Themis asked voicing all our worries.

“He should not be woken up, and it is not advisable for me to get another sleeping draught in him so that I can start treating him, he needs a lot of rest now, another sleeping drought in him for what I plan to do next might make him slip into a long lasting sleep like the one you were in Lady Themis. We don’t have that luxury now.” Dyane said as the three of us looked at each other before offering apologies to the woman before us who was just as bone wary as we were if not more since she had been taking care of the wounded warriors.

“What happened to him?” Elison asked.

“Five broken ribs, a fractured arm healed wrongly, we will have to reset the arm, a deep wound in his thigh that might lead to him not walking in a while. Crooked nose, his eyes will be fine after sometime but right now, I am sure that his vision is still very blurry. Two chopped off toes, I have checked the stubs, they were not removed once, it cause extreme agony for him, then all his finger nails and toenails have been pulled out….” Dyane listed until Elison shouted. “Enough”.

I held Themis when she swayed during Dyane listed what was wrong.

Dyane body jerked at the command and when she looked at Themis, she understood.

“I am so sorry, I wasn’t thinking.” Dyane apologizes just as Themis broke free from my hold and ran a little distance from us so she could vomit. I moved towards her immediately, to console her because tears were running down her face. She must have been feeling really guilty.

“If he is in this bad shape then how was he able to get here on his own?” Elison asks in confusion as Dyane turned to him.

“Well I guess you had no idea right, he didn’t escape on his own. An Erisean came along with him and was the one who helped the warlord get here.
