Twenty two
“That is enough Wife.” Orel said with hard eyes staring back at me. I tightened my grip around the sword until he also increased the pressure he applied on my wrist until I have no choice but to drop down the sword. When he reached for my other sword, I gave it to him willingly because I could see that I had gathered a crowd to watch me.
Orel threw my swords far from me, as he turned to face me again, I wrenched my hand out of his hold. And marched away from the two of them. I saw Dyane and I walked towards her with my face drenched with sweat and looking like a cloud. She didn’t shy away from me. I glanced back at the field only to see Orel knelt close to Gwenn, I turned my face away from the sight as Dyane put her arms around me and led me away from the scene. I didn’t want to see Elison face too. Even if Orel didn’t warn me, Elison should have.
Dyane took me to her tent where my dams opened as I started to wail, she just prepared something for me and gave me to drink. As soon as I emptied the cup, I was already sleepy, she guided me to her bed where I laid down and closed my eyes as I pushed all thoughts of my husband betrayal from my head.
OREL POV.
When Elison sent me a message that Themis had gone crazy through an excited young warrior, I knew that Themis was somehow aware of what happened between me and Gwenn, I was with Dyane then questioning her about Themis, if Themis had visited her or if she knew where Themis was. She didn’t have an answer to either. We hurried to the training field where I saw Themis attacking Gwenn like she was hell bent on killing Gwenn. When she kicked Gwenn and she lost her balance, that was when I walked to them as fast as I could, I got there just in time for Themis to raise her sword up as if she wanted to strike Gwenn, without a thought, I held her hand in a tight grip as she brought down the hand. She stared at me as she tightened her grip on the sword and I became unsure of which of us she will strike if her hand was free, I pressured her to leave the sword and stretched my hand for the other sword which she passed to me without any arguments. After getting her swords far away from us, I turned towards her to yell what happened to her ever loving fricking mind that she attacked one of my closest friends but instead she almost tore her own hand off just to get away from me.
I realized that she was too angry to be reasoned with or even to hear me yell at her, she was lost in her head now, and I recognize the feeling of that kind of rage well.
She removed her hand from mine with a force that I knew must have bruised her skin but she took no notice as she marched off. I was about to turn to her when Gwenn whimpers reached my ears, I turned to her and saw that one side of her mouth was covered in blood, her blood.
“Are you okay?” I asked her as I helped her stand up.
“Your wife knows about us, Orel. Go after her.” Gwenn said.
“I know.” I said as I tried to look at her wound.
“You know and you are here, are you crazy.” Gwenn yells angrily.
“No, now be silent so that I can look at the degree of your injuries so that I can make her feel better when her head is calm.” I ordered Gwenn who shrugged my hands of her.
“You are crazy if you think that she will care enough to ask after me when she is calm, she is in love with you and I was a bitch to her and you protected me while undermining her. She hates two of us now.” Gwenn said as she left me on the field.
I sighed as I used my hand to pass through my hair in anger. Elison approached me as he asked. “What happened, what set Themis off?”
“She found out about me and Gwenn.” I said lowly to avoid others from hearing us although they were slowly returning to their former activities.
“Let’s go cheek on her.” Elison said after a while, I knew that was not what he wanted to say but he just chose to say that instead because he knew I was feel shitty as it is already. We walked in silence to Dyane tent because I didn’t deceive myself for a second that Themis will be in our Tent, if she was there, it was to rip it apart but I think all the fight is drained out of her.
We got there just as Dyane came out of her tent. “Is she alright.” Elison asked as Dyane shook her head just to glare at me.
“No, I have to give her a strong dose of sleeping drought just so she could stop being hysterical.”
“Will she be amendable anytime soon?” Elison asked as Dyane skewered him with her gaze.
“Didn’t you hear my words? She was hysterical, my drought is to calm her down enough to sleep. Once she is awake, her actions are all up to her. She can chose if she wants to be amendable or not. But if it was me, I would not be.” Dyane said as she turned her furious gaze to me.
“How did you know?” I asked with a wince, “She told you?”
“She didn’t need to tell me, everybody knew that Gwen didn’t like Lady Themis, just like everybody knew that Lady Themis cannot fight, for a woman to act angrily that way means that her husband was cheating on her, for Gwenn to actually look scared of Lady Themis while she was in a rage like that, shows that Gwenn had been found out. For you to jump in the way you did, proved everyone assumption right. You had an affair with Gwenn. For her to slap you means that it still hurts her that you would do something like this.” Dyane explained as Elison looked at her in shock.
“How did you deprived all these conclusions?” He asked.
“With my eyes, any person could easily know that is what happened.” Dyane added.
“Except me.” Elison corrected.
“And most of the warriors who didn’t witness the fight and Gwenn apathy towards your wife. Men are dense that way.” Dyane said as I breathed in relief, it would not be good if Themis is being looked down on. Dyane next words removed all my feelings of relief. “But some do realized what is going on and since men are terrible gossips, the news will be all over the camp before the evening meal.”
“Is there anyway, I can appease her.” I asked Dyane not bothering with explaining that it happened years ago because I will just be making her angry at me and everybody knows that you should not annoy the healer if you want to get better quickly anytime you are ill.
“I don’t know, every woman deals with cheating differently. I deal with it in a cold precision, nobody will be aware that it affects me until I have my revenge but you can guess that, that is not your wife way at all.” Dyane shrugged.
“Is there nothing he can do about this?” Elison asked as Dyane shook her head.
“I don’t know what can be done, Lady Themis might treat this as a war and my place is firmly behind her so that will make you the enemy and I don’t think that she will like me fraternizing with you.” Dyane said as she moved back into her tent. I knew without her saying anything that I was not welcomed into that tent.
“Does this mean that my place is with you?” Elison asked after a while of silence.
“Don’t say anything stupid, of course it is.” I snapped at Elison who raised an eyebrow at me.
“What if I don’t want to be in your side? After all, you made the mistake of sleeping with a commander which is mostly in charge of your army then not telling you wife of that little tidbit of information even when the commander played jokes on your wife, instead you told her she was your little sister and your wife chalked her behavior to protection. How do you thing Themis ego, pride and feelings are at this moment. You betrayed her trust in a way and you are the only one who she really has in case you have forgotten.” Elison dished out to me as I closed my eyes in contrition. I knew right then that this will not be easy, Themis will not allow me to get back into her good grace.
