Forty one

Waking up early the next morning, I left the bad and walked outside after getting dressed in a gown this time, the people of Sagedge need to see me act like a lady besides I am sure that Gwenn and others will be too busy to give me a sparring lesson. I wasn’t planning on doing much anyway.

I stepped outside the room to see that Orel didn’t leave a maid for me and why will he? He knows that I know my way around here more than any maid…I was also suspecting it was more than that. Like he wanted to see the way which the people would welcome me. I snorted at that thought. He will be highly disappointed though because they will not welcome me in any way, they might go ahead to pretend that they are not seeing me as if I was a ghost, it would not take them much to believe after all they already believed that my mother family came from a long line of powerful witches who were somehow missed during the burning times.

My thoughts proved to be correct when I stepped out of the house and the villagers, my fellow tribesmen’s who were in front of the house released surprised exclamations but other than that they didn’t meet my gaze or even looked at my direction again. I chuckled at their reactions although my heart was heavy. These were the people I grew up with. This were the people who I thought were my family instead they tried their best to make me feel unwelcomed and leave my tribe and when I didn’t do that. They offered me as a sacrifice.

“You are still alive, it cannot be possible.” A thick ugly voice said behind me as I froze. I wanted to get to the warriors camp as quickly as possible just so I can avoid him and it looks like he found me.

I turned to look and he and I saw that not much has changed about him. He was still looking down his nose at me, wearing a look of utter disgust on his face. He was still staring at me like I was the cause of his problems but he was much fatter now, being the chieftain and using it to his own benefit must be working for him well. “Hello Ramas.”

“You bitch, if you escaped and made the capital think that we didn’t send any maiden for them…” his body vibrated with barely restrained anger. I saw Boan and Dyane moving towards me, Boan in his armor.

“Don’t worry about that, if I did escape, warriors will be here to raze the village to the ground.” I laughed as his expression turned to one of shock that I was talking back to him.

“You Dare…” he started only for me to cut in.

“Yes, I Dare make a joke and laugh about this, I Dare talk back to you and interrupt your words because we are not on the same level.” I grinned at him, I was purposely baiting him to do something against me, and I wanted to get him in trouble. I guess I did hold a grudge against my tribe people for sending me out to die even though I didn’t.

“You little bitch.” Ramas growled. “We should have just killed you and be done with it. Maybe we can tell your master what sort of bad luck you are and he will dispose you himself.”

He thought I was a slave, I wanted to laugh so bad at his face but I tried to contain it. Only a snort escaped “Good luck trying to convince him of that.” I stepped closer to his face as I said my next words. “It would not be easy to get rid of this this time Ramas, you cannot prevent my future children from having a claim at the title you have, it might rest on your shoulders and is comfortable there but it will never be yours.”

“I should kill you and deal with the consequences later.” He grabbed my head, pulling it hard to make my eyes water but I refuse to give him any satisfaction from making him see how hurtful his actions were. I continued to stare at him with a teasing grin on my face as if I knew what he didn’t. I did know something that he didn’t know, something that will make him realized that he made a great enemy because he could not keep his hand to himself.

“If you don’t remove your hand from her right this instant I will remove it from your body.” Boan thunders. I watched Ramas pale as my grin widened some much that they hurt my face but I was enjoying this too much to worry about that. Ramas hands left my hair as if it had been burnt by a hot poker which was just taken out of a fire.

“Sir, good morning.” Ramas greeted, leaving my side to flutter near Boan who ignored him as Dyane rushed to my side, fussing about my hair.

“My lady.” Boan bowed as the people drew in another shocked breathe. Dyane must have explained what was happening to him and he decided to act deferential to me, his chin jerks has turned into a full bow.

“Can you please not mention this to my husband?” I asked as Dyane rubbed my scalp soothing the places where my hair was in danger of leaving my scalp.

“You know that I cannot do that.” Boan bowed again as I sighed. “You are late.”

“No Lady Themis, you are early. Normally you would still be sleeping by this time.” Dyane replied as she glared at Ramas who could not meet her gaze.

“Well I guess Orel left the bed earlier than usual. Where is he now?” I asked Boan because he was the one likely to know my husband location.

Dyane was the one who answered me. “He is in council with his commanders, he gave me a message to give you. He said that as soon as you are done eating, you should come to him, I know the way.” I nodded at Dyane.

“I don’t understand, who is her master?” Ramas asked cutting into our discussion.

Boan hissed in anger at Ramas display but with a head shake from me, Boan didn’t do anything more.

“Lady Themis don’t have a master, she is my master but if you are referring to her husband then he is the warlord.” Dyane explained acting confused by Ramas questions meanwhile she was anything other than confused.

Ramas face pale at Dyane words before he stared at me dumbstruck. I moved to him to whisper in his ears. “Thank you for casting me out when we had others here who could have gone and were supposed to. You pushed me into the hands of one of the most powerful Dariths. Our children might claim this title you have on now, I would like to see you stop them.” I hissed in his ears as I walked away, following Dyane who led me back to the direction she was coming from with Boan at my back. I heard the whispers and felt their stares. This time they could not keep their eyes off me.
