Fifty five
Themis Pov
“How come I was not aware of this?” I asked when Elison, Gwenn and I were taken to the Erisean who returned Orel to them.
“You were so concerned about Orel and so relieved afterwards that no other thoughts entered your mind.” Dyane said as I nodded my head, what Dyane said was the truth and I was extremely glad I saved the Spy when my instincts told me to, regardless of what Gwenn wanted.
“Free him.” I ordered.
“Pardon.” Boan questioned in shock.
“Release him, and reward him and also thank him and ask him what next step he is willing to take.” I added as Boan blinked repeated like he could not believe the order which he was being given.
“I am sorry but Lady Themis, you cannot be serious. His Kinsmen are who we are fighting outside.” Elison said and Boan breathed a sigh of relief.
“I am well aware of the fact that his people are outside fighting against us, he is also aware yet he aided his enemies which is us. He is officially a traitor who should be killed on sight with his people… he made himself an outcast to save Orel, he is more loyal to Dar than some people who are natives to Dar empire and a good example of those people are my tribesmen.”
“He was the spy.” Gwenn said suddenly.
“Yes he was, somehow the mercy we showed him was enough that he replicated it on one of us too.” I smiled but Gwenn looked at me with a weird expression on her face but did not say anything else.
“You are very serious about the fact that we reward him, aren’t you?” Elison asked.
“I am very serious and you know that he deserves it.” I said.
Elison was silent as he thought about it deeply, Gwenn put her hand on Elison arm and when Elison turned to look at her, and she nodded her head.
“Fine if you insist, there is nothing wrong with rewarding the person who saved the Warlord, we will reward him until the warlord says otherwise.” Elison said as he nodded at Boan who looked like he would rather argue but when Gwenn raised an eyebrow at him, he groaned as he bowed his head and went about giving orders for the enemy freedom.
“Thank you.” I told the spy who cowered at the other side of the tent, as far as the chain wrapped around his neck could allow him like he was not sure of the reception he would get. He had nothing to fear from me, I will protect him just like he protected my husband.
“Thank you My Lady, you saved me first.” He replied.
“Why?” The question was out of Elison mouth before he realized that he has asked something like that. When he saw me and Gwenn were looking at him for clarification of his question, he went further. “Why did you save an enemy when it would not profit you in any way, you will never see your family again and you knew that without him, Dar has a high possibility of losing yet you saved him, why?”
“Because his wife saved me first, she didn’t have to…I felt like I was living on borrowed time after she did but since I returned him here, I felt free. I don’t have a family and I have nothing, no position to return to in Erisea, I was going to be discarded when I return to the capital and it would have been a disgrace, I would have been shunned… being a traitor is the same way only that I get to keep my life if I had not done it. That existence would have been pitiful so instead I decided to be do what felt right to me, be an outcast, a traitor and being shunned. But at least thus way, I get to save a life and by extension maybe an empire along the way. It seems like the best option for me so I took it. “The spy shrugged after his answer.
“Thank you for saving my husband even though it is for selfish reasons.” I said as the ex-spy hesitated before nodding. “What’s your name?”
“Cory, my lady. My name is Cory.” He replied as I nodded then before I could add anything more, a warrior came into the tent.
“My lady, you need to come quickly, commander Alson just escaped, leaving the settlement for the enemy’s.”
***********************************
“I cannot believe that he would betray us that way.” Elison spat out in anger as he paces the floor of the war council while other Commanders sat down, none wearing a happy expression including me and Gwenn.
“Orel is back, of course he would run away, he doesn’t want the kind of death that Orel will give him.” Gwenn replied in an angry tone.
“Orel is not ready for anything of this sort yet, until he is awake and taken care of, will I allow him to participate in this war council.” I warned the rest, bracing myself for arguments and already telling myself that I could not lash out at them if they wanted their warlord back because they were tired of dealing with me regardless of if he was still recuperating of not.
“Relax my Lady, we realized that you don’t like this burden on you, we also realized that until he is better, you would not allow any of this to trouble him,” Olyver said with a laugh.
“Although we think that he should make the decision himself.” Another commander grumbled as Elison snorted.
“If he is given that choice, as soon as his eyes are opened he will be here so we are not giving him that choice.” I informed them.
“Then someone else should make that choice not her.” Another commander said and I geared up to lash out at him but Gwenn jumps in before I could say anything.
“Oh, give it a break you all.” Gwenn shouted. “She has the right to make decisions like that, he is her husband and she is concerned about his wellbeing and need I remind you all that she is pregnant, she needs to protect her family so you dare not take this decision from her.” Gwenn orders.
When none other voice arose, I looked at Gwenn and with a smile and mouthed thank you, to Gwenn.
“We need to change everything about our tactics since we have a defect who can tell them things to hurt us.” Olyver reminds others to the threat they currently have onboard.
“And have more people patrol the perimeter of our settlement, we cannot allow them to take us by surprise.” Elison said.
“Already gave the order to Boan.” I said as Elison turned to look at me in confusion.
“What order?” Elison asked.
“I told him to change everything back to the way Orel would have wanted it. There is no need to follow my fighting tactics anymore, there is no need for me to be the Warlady now that the warlord is back.” I said with a smile but Gwenn frowns at me.
“You just fought for your husband to be allowed to rest for at least one month, why are you doing this?”
“Because now that he is back, I don’t have to pretend that I know what I am doing, until he can get back to his full strength, I am sure that his two best friends can take control of the army without any input from the Warlord wife, you know what you are doing more than me, I should not limit you two anymore.” I smiled as I stood up.
“Are you serious about leaving right now? Orel is back yes but no one is forcing you out of here.” Olyver complained.
“A wife place is besides her husband or doing what her husband wants, I am done doing what Orel wants, and I deserve to be close to him now. If you need my opinion for anything, I will be in Dyane tent until they move Orel to our tent, I will always be by his side so looking for me would not be a problem.” I said with a smile, I was the happiest I have ever being since I had to take up the position of an active Warlady. Orel was back. I still think this is a dream but if it is one, it is a dream where I do not want to wake up from.
“What are you going to do now?” Elison asks.
“I am going to act like the brat Orel thinks I am and also take care of our unborn, the only time that I should be back in here is because Orel wants me to be with him and he has to be here. Good bye all.” I said as I gave them a chin jerk as I stood up and started to leave.
“And that is why Themis stayed in the place for her husband, who else would have relinquish all reins to the army the way she did?” Gwenn asks the room in general.
“She is truly something else, Orel is a lucky man.” Elison said as the commanders nodded then one of the chief people who were against Themis being the Warlady added. “That she is.” He was look at weirdly by his colleagues but he didn’t mind.
How many females exists that would fight and retain her husband place that would protect her husband with everything that exists in her. The answer is very few, in fact so few that he has only ever come across only one other in his life and that one is Gwenn.
