Thirty seven
“The ladies are what?” I asked glancing at Gwenn who brought me the message with unhidden glee. She wanted to crash that tea meeting and I am the only one she could follow.
“The ladies are all meeting and excluding you.” Gwenn repeated.
“It isn’t my business.” I muttered beneath my breath as I try to calm myself down.
“Did I mention that Estrid is there?” Gwenn added with a grin.
“Fetch me Dyane to help style my hair, you might want to get ready too, we are going there.” I stated as Gwenn gave a whoop and left the room not minding that I was ordering her.
Thirty minutes later, I and Gwenn was walking through the home of Lillian where the meeting was holding, I dismissed all guards and servants around me since I knew the way to the morning room myself.
As I got closer I started hearing snippets of conversation. “…maybe we should send another invite.” A voice said then Lady Estrid replied.
“I sent her, hers yesterday evening, she ignored it and picked a fight with me instead.”
“Really. Please do continue that story. What happened next?” I asked as I entered the room.
“Lady Themis.” The ladies exclaimed but I didn’t look at their faces, I was staring at the face of the person who had allegedly invited me and was looking pale as of this moment.
“Please do continue.” I tell them as I took my seat.
“H- How did you know?” She stammers as I smile.
“That you were trying to isolate me. It was easy. You see being the warlord wife give me certain privileges.” I goaded her then smiles when she glared at me.
“We are so sorry for the mistake in the communication…” Lillian started as I turned to look at her, at my look her words dried up.
“The meeting is holding in your home, you sent out the invites, you sent Estrid on purpose to me so there was certainly no mistake in communication. If it was someone else I would believe. Why will I believe the words of someone who nearly killed me?” I questioned as Lillian face went pale as the rest of the ladies started talking.
“What do you mean nearly killed you?” Catherine asked with her eyes narrowed at Lillian who was shaking.
“Exactly that. Lady Catherine.” I said. “She sent me a poisonous snake inside a jewelry box.” I waited for the gasps to subside before I pressed on. “The snake bit my guard and my guard almost died. I killed the snake of course.”
“It was just a joke, I didn’t mean anything by it.” Lillian said trying to beg me with her eyes but I refused to keep quiet. All she wanted to was just to maintain her high place of esteem in the eyes of other noble women.
“I doubt that, but anyway I suggest you stay far away from my husband, he still has forgiven you sees you as an enemy. You know what he does to his enemy’s right so no need for me to inform you.” I smiled at her.
“Oh please, he saw her as an enemy when you still interest him, I am sure that right now he is wishing that she had succeeded.” Estrid spat venom coating her words.
“As if you know anything.” Gwenn snorted, Estrid glares at her.
“You might be a commander but that doesn’t mean that you can talk when I am talking, your position is not up to half of mine.” Estrid said.
“Shut up.” I tell Estrid in a calm voice as she jerked at my words in shock. I am sure nobody with the exception of Orel have ever talked to her that way.
“How Dare you.” She cried out in anger as she stood up as if she wanted to start fighting with me physically.
“Raise your hand against me I will beat you within an inch of your life, you know nothing about my marriage and I suggest that you keep your mouth shut about what you don’t know. Also if you try and disrespect me or Gwenn again, I will have you beaten. I have taken enough from you.” I growled at her.
“Who do you think you are?” Estrid gritted out.
“Someone not to be trifled with but if you want to try, you are welcomed to, although I am sure that you will not like the consequences.” I stood up too.
“Ladies I will be on my way now, I just came to inform you that I cannot come for any meeting held in this location, my husband will simply blow a gasket if he learnt that I was anywhere near the merchant queen, cannot even take anything here because it might be poisoned.” I laughed as the women all rushed to try and offer me theirs, denying that it wasn’t poisoned.
“I also came to introduce Gwenn to you, her new status is bigger than ours. She is now the princess Of Northshore, the next queen of that empire.” I leveled a look on Estrid who has slowly taken her seat again. “So I will do well not to make her angry if I was you.” I stepped out of the room, leaving Gwenn with them. I just knew that everybody will soon get the news of Gwenn new status but she was contented with toying with the noble ladies now. I don’t know what they did to her but it was enough that she held a serious grudge against them, and she wanted to repay them, not only Estrid face went pale as I informed them of Gwenn new status, some other women face also when pale including Lillian and knowing Gwenn will deal with them left me happy with satisfaction.
