Twenty five
I woke up in a mood worst that the one I went to bed with. I was angry and cranky although I suspect that the crankiness was as a result of not sleeping well which was as a result of Orel not being closed to me, two nights in a row and I am already feeling as if someone is going to attack me in my sleep and nobody will protect me. I know that I should at least try and put everything behind me and get Orel to sleep in his side of the bed this night but my pride would not allow it, if it means that I have to bring up the issue to Orel then I rather have sleepless nights until whenever he deems is right to return to his bed.
My mood was rubbing off on Dyane who came to help me get dressed, today I wore one of my finer gowns which not only send across the message that I didn’t want to train today but also sent across the message of my rank which meant that I could order people around which is nice because that is what I plan on doing today.
We walked to the cooking tent first of all where I ordered that every issue that could not be solved by themselves will be brought to me to solve then moved over to Gwenn location with was reported back to me by the warrior I sent to watch her movements. The shocker was I heard that she is in the tent which the council used for discussing issues of the army, I was incensed as I marched there not mindful of Dyane who was trying to calm me down and make me think things through logically before I make a fool of myself in public.
I didn’t listen as I marched angrily to the war tent where I opened the flap without requesting for entrance not that anybody reprimanded me when they saw the mood I was in.
“Themis.” Gwenn said as her face pale when she saw me, she was looking at a map with Elison and Orel when I came in but when she realized who was in the tent, she quickly put as much space between her husband and me as it was possible without being obvious, I would have laughed at her actions if I was not infuriated by her presence.
“Wife.” Orel deep voice called out as my body shivers at the sound as if he was giving me an embrace… which will not do because I am angry at Orel and angrier for the fact that I didn’t sleep well.
Curtailing my reaction to his voice, I stiffens as I replied in my best cold condensing tone. “Husband.”
“Why are you here” he asked me as I tried to hide my shock at his words so I was no longer welcomed here, it was good to know.
“He didn’t mean that?” Elison said leveling Orel with a glare. “At least not with that tone.”
“Thank you for trying to help Elison but you didn’t get married to me, he did so I think he knows how to use his words and he meant exactly what he asked.” I said to Elison and turned away from him when he opened his mouth to try and tell me that I was wrong with my thinking and interpretations of Orel words, I focused on my husband as I smiled a forced smile.
“I am here husband to tell the council some things, imagine my surprise in seeing Gwenn here, after her punishment was to not be involved in decision making for a month.”
Orel eyes widened as he realized that he had fell into another trouble. “Themis…”
“If when my back was turned she was invited in here, why act as if you are punishing her to me but she isn’t being punished, why the cowardly move. If you chose not to punish her. There is nothing I can do about that, after all you are the warlord and your word is law… even to your wife.”
Orel flinched at my statement which was true based on the conversation we had while in the capital, the conversation which told me that he expects me to obey his commands as if I am a warrior under him. “Themis.”
“Don’t.” I said sharply but that didn’t disguise the sudden tightness of my throat. “Don’t you Dare try and make excuses, you have used enough to run out of using them for a lifetime, just don’t. Anyway, I came here to inform you that I am now in charge of the cooking tent so please do send any request that you have to me.”
“But I was in charge…” Gwenn said confused as I shrugged my shoulders.
“Not anymore, that is the work of the wife of the warlord and so I am starting my duties, if there is any other duty under you which is supposed to be done by me, I suggest you tell me now so that I can add it to my tasks.” I said as Gwenn looks at me.
“You cannot be serious.” Gwenn exclaimed as I replied with barely concealed threat in my words.
“Serious as me almost slitting your throat yesterday.”
Gwenn blanched as she shifted away from me. “Orel do something.”
“Like what, this is my field unless he wants to involve himself in my work, I suggest he remains on his side.” I said as Orel turned away from me, he knew better than to involve himself in this.
“I will send the list of documents to you and the current happenings to you too.” Gwenn said as I nodded.
“Themis.” Elison called out as I turned back to face him since I was already leaving. “Please stop being angry, I requested for her to be here.”
“I know that it would have been either of us and I also know that you didn’t say anything when you knew what was happening, I am just tired of everything.” I whispered as I left the tent while Elison closed his eyes in an expression that looked terribly like regret.
