Chapter 26: Investigation

Julia had taken on a new identity, now called Julia Smith. Both the name and the identity were arranged by Nathan, who was a well-known figure in country A and intimidated many people.
Julia was grateful to Nathan for publicly declaring her as his intimate partner, and she didn't feel the need to provide any further explanation. In her view, Nathan needed someone to serve as a shield, and she owed him a debt that she could never fully repay in this lifetime. So, being a shield was nothing more than fulfilling her obligation, and she didn't mind any hardships that came with it.
What she didn't expect was that he would come to country C with her.
"Come with me, there's something on the other side in country A," she said.
Her words were interrupted by him. "I will handle my own matters well, you can trust me, okay?"
Nathan chuckled, "During this period of time, you have almost become my housekeeper. Even the head butler doesn't manage things as meticulously as you."
"But..." She still had some concerns. When they were in country A, she witnessed firsthand just how busy he was.
"Rest assured, I have hired professional managers. If everything needs my attention, then what's the point of hiring them at high salaries?" Nathan escorted her back to the bedroom. "Your main task now is to take care of yourself, heal your body, and not worry about unnecessary things, alright?"
Julia silently looked at him.
Nathan surrendered, "I'm not lying, why don't you go and ask the head butler?"
"Sure." Julia signaled that she would indeed go and ask the head butler.
In Julia's opinion, the head butler would never lie. He had been taking care of her throughout the four years in country A.
After receiving confirmation from the head butler, Nathan laughed while still facing Julia's lingering doubts.
"What? Still not at ease now? Do you think the head butler is also deceiving you?"
Julia quickly shook her head. If she were to say that, the head butler would be heartbroken.
"Can you rest well now?" Nathan asked.
Julia nodded. "You shouldn't overwork yourself either."
"But earlier, you asked me to go to work," Nathan said.
Julia walked directly into the bedroom, ignoring Nathan.
On the other side, after Elio returned, he called his assistant and asked him to investigate the information of the new neighbors who had just moved nearby.
In just three days, all of Nathan's information was placed on Elio's desk.
However, there were still some blank areas in the information.
Seeing this, how could Elio not understand? Nathan was not an ordinary person.
The investigated information showed that Nathan was still unmarried. But Elio remembered that when he introduced that woman, he said she was his wife.
If she was really his wife, why would the information indicate he is unmarried?
Elio took a deep breath and took out the report that belonged to Julia, carefully examining it.
But this investigation report was too perfect, so perfect that he couldn't find a single flaw.
Her name was also Julia.
She had grown up in country A and was of a country C descent. She had just returned to the country a few days ago.
Just returned a few days ago?
Elio couldn't believe that there could be so many similarities in the world.
"Is it really you?" he pondered.
Elio, as if grasping onto the last straw, stood up abruptly and headed towards the safe.
