Chapter 38 - Human Hearts

"Katie, please leave." Elio suddenly appeared in the hospital room and said to Katie, who still wanted to continue speaking.
Katie was taken aback; she didn't expect him to come back so soon. She had just seen him leave with that man named Nathan.
"But..."
"There are some things I need to talk to her alone about."
"I can accompany her."
"Katie, I need some space alone."
Katie was very worried about these two people.
Over the past four years, although Elio had appeared normal in every way, only she knew how bad his health really was!
Katie didn't dare to go far, she stood at the door, in case something unexpected happened inside, she could take care of it.
After Katie left, the room suddenly became quiet.
Julia looked up, holding back her tears.
Elio approached her and wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes. "Julia, you finally admitted," he said, his tone full of reproach.
Julia didn't move, she just raised her hand to cover her own eyes.
Elio simply sat on the edge of the bed, his gaze full of love, but more than that, pain.
"I'm sorry, Julia, you don't know how heartbroken and sad I am."
"I have missed you once; how can I make the same mistake again?"
Elio's voice was gentle, but with a slight tremor in the final note.
Julia didn't forget what happened before she fainted. She also remembered that even in her confused state, she still called out Elio's name, relying on him the most.
No matter what he did to her in the past, deep down, she still trusted him the most.
Julia smiled bitterly in her heart and looked at Elio. "Elio..."
Starting from when Julia went to find Tiffany, she didn't intend to continue hiding anything from Elio.
Since he already knew, why continue hiding?
Elio's back straightened instantly.
It had been a long time since he heard her call him so gently.
"I'm here," he responded.
"I don't blame you," Julia's voice was calm.
His heart, which was hanging in the air, sank little by little. He knew what she was going to say.
"Please don't say it," Elio raised his hand, with his index finger on her lips, his eyes pleading. "Please don't say it, okay?"
Julia took his hand away. "You know what I want to say, and you know we can't go back."
"I'm sorry," he could only say sorry, he didn't know what else to say.
"There's nothing to apologize for. I don't blame you, but that doesn't mean I can forgive you," Julia let go of his hand, "I can't pretend that nothing happened. Every time I see you now, I hear your voice saying all those things.
"Everything you did, even if it wasn't intentional..."
In the midnight hour, she would always be awakened by those nightmares.
And the source of all these nightmares was Elio.
She couldn't go back, nor could she forgive him.
Because he was the one who pushed her into the abyss, leaving her in eternal torment.
