Chapter 33: Confession

<Chapter>Chapter 33 Confession </Chapter>
After sending Eddie away, Julia sat on the sofa and stared into space.
When Nathan came back from outside, this was the scene he saw.
He loved coming home.
Just seeing Julia sitting in the hallway, they appeared like an ordinary couple—wife cooking at home, waiting for her husband to return from work. But no matter how convincing it seemed, seemed; it was all a facade. He knew there was someone else in her heart, and he had known all along, even if she refused to admit it.
"Tired?" Nathan handed his suit jacket to the welcoming housekeeper and sat down beside Julia. She turned her head and smiled at him, saying, "Not really tired. Why do you ask me this every time you come home?"
Nathan loved it when she referred to the house as "home." He held her hand and replied, "Because I worry about you."
Julia wanted to pull her hand back, but before she could, Nathan withdrew his hand, though his smile remained. "I heard that little guy came over again today," he remarked.
Julia nodded, her expression easing slightly. "He's obedient and well-behaved." She didn't know if she could continue spending time with the child without any concerns.
"If you want custody of that child, I can help you fight for it," Nathan said abruptly.
Julia was stunned, then shook her head with a somewhat amused expression. "There's nothing to fight for. That child isn't Elio's."
Nathan didn't know everything about Julia's past, but he wasn't clueless either.
'How could Eddie, who looked so much like Elio, not be his child?'
Julia looked at Nathan, speaking softly as if she had no concerns, "Nathan, as I've said before, my past is even more unsavory than you can imagine. Don't waste your time on me; I'm incapable of loving anyone anymore."
Nathan knew she didn't want to continue discussing this topic, but that was okay for him; he could investigate on his own.
"Is it because of Elio?" he asked.
"No."
"If it's not because of him, why don't you give us a chance? You can't pass judgment on my fate based on his mistakes and sins."
"That's not fair to you."
"Love has no concept of fairness or unfairness. Once you fall in love, it's already unfair," Nathan's deep blue eyes held an emotion that Julia couldn't decipher. "I've regretted more than once why I didn't meet you earlier. If only I had known you sooner, you wouldn't have had to endure this series of pain."
But between her and Elio, it wasn't all pain. Undeniably, Elio truly loved her. If Katie's claims of memory swapping were true, then she could choose to believe that Elio loved her to the point of madness.
Yet, why, in such deep love, did he still forget her, still mistake her for someone else? She had pleaded with him so desperately before.
"Are you thinking of him again?" Nathan's voice sounded sour.
Julia snapped back to reality. "As I've said, I can't give you the love you want.”
"However, I can give you the love you desire. I ask for nothing else but for you to be by my side, for your eyes to only see me from now on." He said, his tone resolute.
As for the place in your heart, he will slowly occupy it until there is no more room for Elio.
