CHAPTER 53 "THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME"
JUST AS she and Jason agreed last night while they were talking exchanging text messages, the young man accompanied her in delivering orders. It is difficult for her to send them using delivery services. There might be a problem with the delivery and that will definitely disappoint her customers.
"Thank you," she said to Jason as she had already delivered the ordered set of cakes and cupcakes for a child to celebrate his birthday.
"You're welcome," Jason replied simply then smiled at her.
That's when Jenny fastened her seatbelt. "If you want, you can just take me off the terminal so you can go home and rest," she said told him.
Jason laughed softly. "Can I have some Stewed Beef?" the young man said in a tone similar to his voice, soothing.
That question touched Jenny's heart deeply. "Is that all? No problem," she replied quickly picking up her phone to call her mother.
"Wait, what are you going to do?" Jason asked her.
"I'll call Mama. I'll tell her we're going somewhere for a while so she won't have to wait for us for lunch," she explained.
"Okay," Jason replied contentedly to him.
"Why, what were you thinking?" she asked laughing.
"I thought you were going to asked Aunt Rowena to cook Stewed Beef," he replied to her.
Jenny did not respond to what Jason said. She got what he meant earlier so she couldn't help but feel amusement for the young man.
"Let's go to the grocery store first so we can buy the ingredients for your requested dish," she said to Jason after a few moments of silence.
*****
A warm feeling touched Jenny's heart as she looked at a familiar ancestral house from inside Jason's car.
"Jen," Jason whispered softly to her as if bringing her back to the present.
"S-Sorry," she said quickly then took off her seatbelt.
They were just at the gate and there was a different atmosphere that Jenny felt as if it was enveloping the whole area and that was what she could see was the reason why her chest throbbed even more.
But despite the intense discomfort and nostalgia, the young lady still chose to normalize her actions. Yes, maybe it's true that something is really happening to her and Jason. But as she said before, she also needs to save her pride.
It's a different matter because when the heart is involved and as long as the young man doesn't admit anything to her, she won't admit anything to him either.
"Are you okay?" Jason asked pulling out the key for the big door.
Then she looked up at the handsome man. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine," she lied even though in fact she could barely hear the words she said because her chest was pounding even louder.
"Really?" amusement was in the tone of Jason's tone.
Jenny's beautiful eyebrows met quickly because of what she heard.
"You don't seem to believe what I said, why?" the annoyance slightly mixed with the tone of Jenny's words and she couldn't control it.
Jason just smiled in response to her question and then pushed open the big door. It was then that Jenny greeted the sight of a scene that she knew had witnessed the young love that she and Jason once had.
Jenny's chest immediately went up and down and then looked up at Jason and caught him staring at her in a way that seemed to be watching her reaction.
"What do you think?" moments later that was the question she heard slips on Jason's lips.
Jenny bit her lower lip and then revisited the sight all around.
Nothing has changed, how she saw the whole household the last time she stepped there is still the same. And that's why the seeming recollection of the many good memories that Jason and she had there intensified. And most of all, the fact that for how many times had she been able to give herself to the young man, in his own room.
At that point, Jenny decided to cut off her flashback. Then she herself acted and took the lead in entering. That was despite the fact that she was just resisting the urge to cry because of the intense regret she feels now.
What if I hadn’t broken up with Jason before? Is it possible that we now live here? In this house? And we already have children?
Those questions quickly played in her mind that eventually, as he had been doing before she also chose to remove them from her head. Maybe that’s where all that regret would take her. She might get hurt again.
In the kitchen, she stayed with Jason afterward. The young man helped her prepare lunch but she cooked. And as before, it seemed indescribable the happiness she felt as she watched him enjoying the food she had prepared.
"I have a question," the young man said as they both finished eating and Jason finished washing the dishes.
"What?" she asked.
"What's your ex-boyfriend's favorite dish that you always cook for him?" asked the young man who took the clean cloth then wiped his wet hands.
Perhaps because she didn’t expect anything about it Jenny was immediately surprised to hear that. But she also recovered quickly and eventually decided to tell Jason the truth.
"What am I cooking for him? The truth is I haven't cooked Ryan's food, at least once," she would tell the truth.
Jason smiled broadly when she said that then he spoke in a tone that she could not deny was really very happy. And with the beautiful twinkle in his eyes, it is not difficult to compare him to a child gifted by his favorite candy.
"Really? He doesn't even taste your baking?" he asked then pulled out a chair then sat down in front of her.
Jenny shrugged her shoulders. "Ryan doesn't like sweets. He's diabetic. Then I didn't have a chance to cook for him because we're both busy. We often just eat out. He also doesn't like people who always come to his house, I included. Maybe it's because of his cheating on me," she said without the slightest bitterness in her tone.
Then Jason's smile widened even more. He then reached out for her hand and locked it in his two palms and kissed it tenderly after a while.
"What's happening to you? Why are you so happy?" she asked unable to avoid laughing softly because of the amusement she felt for the young man.
Then Jason moved again and then he pushed the chair he was sitting on closer to her.
"I'm just happy," he replied kissing her hand again and then, with twinkling eyes reached for her face then caressed it.
Jenny closes her eyes when she feels the warmth of Jason's palm on her cheek. She felt that it calmed her anxious feelings because of the man as well.
"Jen," Jason whispered.
Then Jenny opened her eyes and then met the man's black eyes.
"Why?" she asked.
"Ryan and I were the only two who became your boyfriend, weren't we?" he asked her.
She nodded as she remained staring into the young man's eyes.
"Who is more handsome?" Jason asked.
Jenny laughed out loud at Jason's question. "What's wrong with you?"
"Tsk, just answer my question," Jason insisted.
Jenny held back a laugh again before opening her mouth to speak. "Of course you're more handsome than him. I'm not saying this to flatter you huh? I'm just saying what's true," she admits.
Jenny saw Jason's face light up brightly when she said that. "Really?"
Jenny nodded.
"One last question," the young man said.
"What is it?"
"Who do you love more?"
At that question, the young lady gasped loudly. She didn't expect that so maybe that's how she reacted. And honestly, she didn’t want to answer that. So instead she decided to stay away.
"Wait," Jason followed her as she moved out of the kitchen.
"T-Take me home, I want to rest," she replied quickly pulling her arm from Jason.
"What are you saying? This your house, have you forgotten?" the young man to her touching both her shoulders.
"W-What do you mean this is my house?" even though she got what Jason meant it was still what slips her lips.
