CHAPTER 64 “MIRIAM”
“You are already here; do you want me to prepare something for you to eat? Or have you eaten yet?” that was Miriam's consecutive question to Ryan who had just arrived even though it was already morning.
At that time, she saw the emotion was cold in his eyes. The man just glanced at her and then lowered the bag he was carrying on the table in their room.
"Ah, Ryan, there's ---,"
"Sonofabitch, Miriam! Can't you realize that I don't want to talk to you? Your face is making me feel sick! So please try to leave me alone!” his rage at her shocked her so much.
That was all and he continued inside the bathroom.
She knew he would just take a bath and leave again.
It was as if Miriam's heart was breaking and she breathed in a row. She didn't even want to get mad at Ryan for what he was doing to her but she couldn't help it. She knew Jenny wasn't his first mistress. Because Jenny wasn’t the first woman she talked to and told the truth about the true state of her husband’s life.
Miriam also knew that after she made that visit to Jenny, she had cut all ties with her husband. And she also knew that his husband had returned to the young lady's house several times to negotiate and reconcile with her.
How did she know all that?
Because she paid someone to have Ryan be followed.
But she didn’t know if she was doing it right. She hired a private investigator to track down her spouse. And it gives her information about what Ryan does every day.
As she said, she doesn’t know if she’s doing the right thing that she’s actually paying someone to have Ryan followed. Because she’s only getting more and more frustrated and hurt by all the news and information the investigation has been reporting to her.
She was in that state of thinking when Ryan came out of the bathroom.
"Where are you going?" that was her calm question when she saw him take from inside the closet a suitcase.
"I'm leaving, I'm leaving you!" he said without hesitation and then glanced at her. And if the kind of stare he threw at her was just deadly, she might end up lifeless right now.
"B-But, Ryan, don't do this to your children, don't leave us," she begged, holding back tears and then approached him.
"Stop! You ruined my life!” Ryan said furiously as he started packing.
Confusion quickly enveloped Miriam's mind at what she heard. "W-What are you saying I ruined your life?" she asked.
“You are to blame for why Jenny left me! It's your fault because I can't marry her! It’s your fault because she doesn’t want to face me now! Because you are here in my life! You and your children!” the man shouted furiously at her.
She saw the intense fire of anger in Ryan's eyes at that moment. But Miriam still could not understand he even has to include their kids?
“And what have your children got to do with it? My god Ryan, Kyrie, and Kyla are your own blood and flesh! How can you tell them that?” she asked in a tone of intense disbelief.
“Because if it weren't for you, I would be with the woman I really love now! You know in yourself Miriam that I don't really love you! Our parents just insisted on us so that my father could pay off his debt because otherwise he would be imprisoned! Your sonofabitch father will send him to jail!” Ryan's still furious shout at her.
"Don't talk to my father like that!" at that point all the restraint Miriam felt for Ryan had finally loosened. “You are an ingrate! If it wasn't for my dad, you wouldn't have a good job and now you can still talk to him like that? And one more thing, I didn’t force you to marry me! You agreed to that agreement because you are ambitious!”
"What do you mean, I am ambitious?"
Miriam let out a laugh. “Isn't that true? You thought Papa would leave me the restaurant and inn in Batangas so you agreed to let us get married, didn't you? That's why you were angry when you found out that it went to my brother and mine was the coffee farm? But when you think about it, isn't there more money on the farm?” she teased the man.
"Are you saying that I am greedy?"
“Why isn't that true? You only want my money, and one more thing, Jenny isn't the only woman you want, is she? Isn't she the only woman you cheated on and introduced yourself as a single? So how do you say you love her?” Miriam's tone was sarcastic. That is even though even she doesn’t like everything she says.
She is not this kind of woman. And if it weren’t for their kids, she wouldn’t be doing the chasing and begging over Ryan.
"I love Jenny and I'm sure about that!" he insisted on her. “And I also know that she loves me! And I believe that someday everything will be fine between the two of us!”
With what Ryan said, a loud laugh was let out by Miriam that filled the whole room.
"Why are you laughing at me?" his furious question to her.
“Jenny? Does she love you? I don’t think so,” she laughed out loud again.
It was then that she saw the frown on Ryan's forehead and she secretly enjoyed it. In that way at least she was able to recover from it even though in fact she also felt the pain that drew in her chest because of the real love she felt for her husband.
She loved Ryan so much. But she, she knew he didn't love her. Because like she said here before, he only wants her money.
Their fathers were friends when they were in college. And that’s why her dad so took Ryan’s dad as a business partner. It was a small restaurant in Batangas.
The business went well and the small restaurant grew. It was the restaurant-inn that her father gave his older brother.
While their marriage was really wanted by their fathers. What she doesn’t know is about what Ryan says made it was a payoff for his father’s debt to her father.
Ryan's father was heavily indebted to her father because of his addiction to gambling, alcohol, and women. Until he was forced to sell his share in the restaurant to her father so that his creditor would not sue him. That was what she knew had really happened and was different from what her husband was now saying and shouting in her face.
“Not according to my investigation, because Jenny is now happy with the man she really loves! A young bachelor, very handsome, CEO of a construction firm, and has a cabin rental in Baguio. Now, ask yourself, compared to that man, where are you?” she said without restraint then let out another silly and sarcastic laugh.
