"Do you know why I was paired with Freyja?" Katrina asked, her eyes roaming around the room as she tried to spot her opponent.
"No." I growled, pulling her arm, dragging her closer to me so I could whisper in her ear, "But please be careful. I can't interfere with your midterm. Freyja is fast and meticulous. Either take her down fast or avoid her at all costs."
"Katrina!" Freyja barked, from the gymnasium, pulling Katrina's attention from me, "Future royalty or not, I expect you to be with the rest of the class by the time class starts. Unless this is your way of saying you don't want to participate in the midterm. If so, I'll markdown and accept your forfeit."
"No, Ma'am." Katrina hollered back, glancing at me quickly before jogging toward the arena to join her classmates.
"As I'm sure all of you know from reading the roster, I will be sparring with Katrina today," Freyja announced, glancing at each of her students before her eyes settled on mine, "Now most of you might be wondering why, and I have my reasonings for that, but my main reasoning is is that Katrina is the third most powerful person in this room. Even with her lower knowledge level," She commented snidely, causing a few of Katrina's peers to chuckle, "I wouldn't feel comfortable pairing her with anyone besides Miles or myself, and since Miles is her fated, it only left me."
She waited a moment to see if anyone in the class would comment or make a remark, her eyes never wavering from mine, before she clapped her hands together. "Alrighty then, let's get started. Katrina, you'll go last since I'll need to watch how the other students perform beforehand. Your grading will also be different because I won't be able to observe, but we'll go over that right before the match."
Katrina nodded in acknowledgment. Her crossed arms and her blank expression make it impossible for me to gauge her thoughts.
"There'll be three rounds for the midterm. The first round will be hand-to-hand combat, then weaponry, and for the final round, you'll be doing a combination of all three skillsets you've learned so far this term. In case you need reminding, that'll be hand to hand, weaponry, and magical abilities. The weapons you use today will be blunted; while they can still cut, they won't be sharp enough to kill. These duels will be like our previous ones, meaning the same rule as always, which is no lethal force." Hilda and Issac, your up." Freyja called, clearing the ring and taking her seat to observe the fight.
