Chapter 32: Miles

As Beckett left the room, a loud thud sounded behind me. Turning toward the noise, I can see that the sound came from Samael slamming his fist against the wall. What the fuck was going on with him? He never acted this way, and he seemed more upset with Beckett than he should have been. It seemed like not only was he being protective over Katrina but also over Luka too, but no, that couldn't be it. Samael barely knows Luka. He's had him as a teacher for a year, and I'm sure they've run into each other a time or two at events Samael's parents have hosted, but I didn't think they were friends. I made a mental note to inquire about that further when I next saw Luka. I needed to find out what was going on with my boys and how I could fix it before this shit storm that was brewing unraveled.

"Samael!" Katrina cried, pulling herself from Aphelion's arms, "What the hell do you think you're doing?" She scolded him.

"Trying not to find Beckett and take my anger out on his face." He growled back in response.

"Beckett didn't do anything wrong," Katrina responds, surprising me.

"What do you mean he didn't do anything wrong? He hurt you!" Samael yells, blue flames flickering in his eyes.

"Beckett is hurting because of me. He asked me not to further my bond with Luka, but I didn't respect his request. He's right; as soon as I was presented the opportunity, I spread my legs for him." Katrina whispered, tears flowing down her eyes.

Samael reached out to consul her, but she stepped away, "I will give Beckett the time he needs, and I don't want any of you to chastise him for it. If we are going to make this bond work, we need to consider everyone's feelings."

Samael let out a huff before running his hands through his hair, "I still think he's ridiculous about the entire situation, but if that's what you want, babe, then okay. I should head back home and make sure Luka isn't freaking out thinking a demon kidnapped you."

Katrina let Samael take her in his arms this time as he placed a gentle kiss on her lips. "yes, and since it'll be the two of you, you should talk about last night." Katrina whispered in Samael's ear, "You wouldn't want there to be any awkwardness between us."

I watched in awe as the top of Samael's ears tinged pink. What the hell was she talking about? What had occurred between the three of them last night has Samael so embarrassed? I bit my tongue, I wanted to ask what Katrina was talking about, but I resisted the urge since I'm sure she assumed she had been whispering low enough that only Samael could hear her.

Samael pecked the top of Katrina's head and flicked his hand in a half-ass wave at Aphelion and me before walking out onto the balcony and letting loose his wings.

"Wow, he's magnificent," Katrina stated, drooling over Samael's raven black wings.

"Whatever you say, dork," I snort, walking towards the fridge and pulling out a beer, "Want one?" I ask Aphellion and her.

"Sure," Katrina replies, taking her eyes off Samael as he descends the balcony, holding out her hand to catch the beer I toss at her.

"No, I'm good." Aphelion replies instantly, "I... err... I have to go somewhere too. I'll catch you guys tonight, though." He states, walking towards the door and exiting the room before Katrina and I have a chance to ask him where he's going.

Katrina and I find ourselves alone in the kitchen as we stare at our beers in a deafening silence. I take a long drag off of mine, thinking of what to say but drawing a blank each time.

"Listen, Miles, about Luka, I'm so..." Katrina starts.

"Don't even worry about apologizing, Kitten. I should have known he would be your mate too. It makes complete sense. You don't ever have to justify sleeping with one of your mates with me; while it might drive me crazy with jealousy knowing that they've gotten to see you and enjoy you in more ways than I can even imagine, I still understand that you are theirs as much as you are mine."

Katrina stares at me; her eyes widen as if she's in shock, a look of utter disbelief. "You were so upset about Aphellion, though."

"Yeah." I reply sheepishly, running my hands through my hair, "I was upset, but it wasn't because you slept with him. I was more confused about why you slept with him, but decided not to with me, but then I realized that it didn't matter. Who you do or don't sleep with is your choice. Perhaps Aphelion was able to give you something that I couldn't, or maybe you just wanted to fuck that night. Either way, it doesn't matter."

"Miles," Katrina whispered my name, stepping closer to me, "It's not that Aphelion was better or had more to give me than you did. It's just that first night with you, I felt like I was already falling in love with you, and it scared me. I've never wanted to depend on a person how I felt like I could depend on you. I didn't want to have sex with you and regret my decision afterward. When we have sex, I don't want it to be because I am trying to forget the hurt, the anger, or any other ill emotion. I want us
to have sex for us." She replies, stopping just before are skin touches.

I responded the only way I knew how. I lifted my hand, reaching behind her neck and pulling her into me, touching her lips with mine. I wanted the kiss to explain to Katrina how I felt about her, how my heart soared for her, and how everything else in life ceased except for her when I first saw her. I would do anything for her. I would take my father's spot on the council if it meant protecting her.

I pulled my mouth away from hers, stepping back and taking a sip of my beer, a small smile on my face, "So, do you like sports?" I ask as I head out of the kitchen toward the living room, diving down on the love seat.

"Ummm..." She started with a puzzled look on her face as she tried to figure out what the hell I had just asked, "I guess sports are okay; I've only just gotten into American football."

"American Football is one of my favorite human sports to watch," I reply, slapping the seat beside me as I pull out my phone, "There's a Niners Cowboys game on right now, want to watch?"

"Uhh, sure." She replies cautiously, sitting down beside me.

I wave my hand over my phone and laugh at the shocked look on Katrina's face when the screen on my phone projects onto the wall before us. The game is already in the 2nd quarter, and the Niners are down by a touchdown. While Katrina watches the game and cheers on her chosen team, I watch her. I study her reactions, the way her heart accelerates when the quarterback goes to make a throw, the way her lip quirks upward when the commentator makes a joke on one of the plays, the way she cheers when her team scores and boos when she thinks the referee has made a bad call. Watching Katrina is more exhilarating than watching the ball game, and I don't think I will ever tire of watching her.

"Wow, what a close game." She replies, reaching across from me and grabbing another beer from the cooler I had set up during halftime.

"Yep," I nodded my agreement, not sure how to respond sinceD I hadn't watched the game.

"Oh, don't act like you even watched the game." She giggled, taking a long sip of her beer, "I know you were watching me the entire time; I felt your eyes burning holes into my skin."

"And?' I ask, egging her on.

"Well, did you like what you saw?" She asked, her voice growing husky as she leaned over me once more to set her beer down. However, this time, she doesn't go back to her seat beside me on the couch. Instead, she straddles my lap, facing me.

I lean in toward her and press my lips against her neck, inhaling her scent, "Yes, very much so," I murmur against her neck, causing her to let out a small gasp.

She intertwines her fingers into my short brown hair and pulls my face towards her, "What were you thinking about while you watched me?" She asks seductively.

Part of me wants to tell her the truth so that I can see the pale blush on her cheeks, but the other part of me, who wants to play the game, wins. "I was thinking of how much I wanted to do this," I responded huskily before lowering my mouth down onto hers.

The moment our lips touch, I can feel our powers colliding, it's like the earth has tilted on its axis, and all of its plates have slid into place. Her power calls to mine, just as mine calls to her. Our auras swirl together as my tongue enters her mouth, gently dancing with hers. Her hands are tangled in my hair and mine and kneading at her ass, rubbing her against the erection forming in my pants. She lets out a small moan as I remove my lips from hers and begin to trail kisses down her neck. I start to trail her collarbone with long wet seductive licks, which causes her to pant; just as I am starting to slide my hand up her shirt, our door is thrown open as Headmaster Simmons storms in.
