Chapter 66

**KATRINA**
----------------------

As I walk out of Luka's class, Aphelion is leaning against the wall waiting for me, a look of annoyance on his face.

"What's up?" I ask as I walk up to him.

"My father wants to meet you this weekend." He replies gruffly as he takes my hand and starts heading toward my next class.

"Wait, what? Why now when he was perfectly fine before waiting until the council meeting?" I ask, quickening my steps to keep up with Aphelion, who was quite literally dragging me across the academy.

"Before today, you were a nobody. But now, you've managed to defeat Thor's daughter and create an impenetrable shield that can morph constantly."

"Aphelion!" I shout as I trip over my foot. "Please slow down!"

"Sorry, Princess." He mumbles, glancing down at me, "I'm just worried; whenever my father takes an interest in something, it always ends badly."

"It's okay, Sparky; we will figure something out. How does dear old Zeus know about my shield already?"

"Dade called his father as soon as your shield morphed for Luka. His dad is on the council, and he called my father, sharing with him the live feed that Dade was sending his dad. My father saw the entire thing live as it was happening."

"What does this mean?" I ask, goosebumps morphing up and down my arms.

"It means you aren't just a nobody in the council's eyes anymore. They're interested in you. Now we have to wait and see if they consider you a savior or a threat.

"We both know I'm not a savior, Sparky."

"You saved me, Princess." Aphelion replies, taking my hand and bringing it to his lips before leading me once more to my next class.

The familiar sound of hushed whispers filled my ears as I walked into my magical enhancement class; even Professor Isis was looking at me in awe.

"Katrina," Isis nodded in my direction, "I hear you've learned how to use some of your divine gifts. Have you perhaps learned what your unique gift is yet?" She inquires.

"No, ma'am." I reply, keeping my head downcast as if I'm ashamed, "I've yet to discover my unique ability."

"Perhaps she doesn't have one," Hilda called loudly, forever voicing her opinion on matters that involve me.

"When your opinion is wanted, Hilda, it'll be asked for," Professor Isis chided the lightning goddess, causing Hilda's mouth to drop open in shock and me to let out a snort of laughter that I tried to pretend was a sneeze.

"Katrina, to pass your midterm, you must be able to show your unique ability. If you wish to pass my class, I highly suggest you focus more on your inner self than on your handsome mates these next two weeks." Isis states before turning her attention away from me and greeting another student walking in.

My cheeks are tinged pink as I take my seat toward the back of the class, wondering how on Earth I will pass this midterm.

"Don't worry, Princess," Aphelion states, sliding into the seat beside me, "we will find out what your unique gift is before midterms, and you won't have to give up my favorite extracurricular activity."

I turn in my seat to look at my mate, my eyebrow raised, "Oh, and pray to tell me what your favorite activity is?"

"Why you focusing on your handsome mates, of course," Aphelion states, winking at me, causing my cheeks to flush even brighter.

"How do you suppose we go about finding my unique gift?" I ask, curious to learn more about this magical ability that only I possess.

"Let's try to link are magic; maybe I can draw it out of you." Aphelion replies after considering my question for a moment.

"What if my ability is dark?" I ask, suddenly worried that my demonic side will give my gift instead of my angel.

I can feel his magic thrumming with my pulse, calling to me, asking me to open up and let him in. Allowing Aphelion through my borders is easier than it was when I first allowed Luka entrance, making me wonder if magic sharing is like losing one's virginity. The first time is always hard and painful. It takes time and patience as you ease your way in gently, only adding a smidgen of pressure at a time until the opening allows full access. The more you do it, the easier it becomes to slide in. Aphelion and I were already united as one in the fullest sense, so my magic easily joined his when he called for it.

Unfortunately, my annoyance causes me to push back with my magic, pushing Aphelion completely out of my body before I enter his, a unique tingle flowing from my body as I pour whatever it is into my mate. The shock I'm feeling matches the expression on Aphelion's face as he allows my new magic to enter him.

"You feel different." Aphelion whispers.

In a normal circumstance, I would've replied with a crude joke, but this was anything but normal. As my magic continued to pump into him, Aphelion's aura grew; his normal yellow hue was now laced with the purity of my heavenly light and the darkness of my demon fire. His power intensifies with each caress of my magic.

"You are a conduit for your mates." Professor Isis states, breaking my concentration from Aphelion, making my magic recede into my body. "While it is rare, it is something that can be shared between mates." She explains. "Unfortunately, it is not your unique ability. As I stated before, Prince Aphelion, it is something that only Katrina can find in herself. Perhaps your skills would be better off helping one of our other students who've found what their gift is already." She suggested before moving on to help another classmate.

"I'll be right here," Aphelion whispered, gripping my hand reassuringly, before letting go and heading over to one of the female student's desk who seemed to be having trouble maintaining her ability. Her eyes lit up like fireworks on Independence Day, and I had to squash down the jealously rearing its ugly head.

The magic called to me, begging to be released, but I was hesitant to do so. It had appeared to me, locked up with heavy metal chains and barbwire. Very visible red flags were telling me to leave it alone and not to release whatever chaos was wrapped up inside, but I felt so alive in its presence. Every nerve in my body was being pulled to this power, and I couldn't help but feel like it was the answer to everything.

My feet were moving, and my hand was outstretched, reaching for the padlock to release the chains before my mind could process what I was doing. The moment my hand clasped the padlock in its grasp, I felt euphoria and peace wash over me, urging me onward, promising that the opening would be even better. Just as my thumb reached up to caress the dial, the bell rang, pulling me from my mind.
