Chapter 63: Luka

As I let my divine power flow from my body, sending it toward Katrina, I watch in amazement as her shield begins to shift, her body calling upon her divine power to protect it. My magic evaporates before it can even come close to touching her shield. Captivated by what just occurred, I send another ball of magic toward Katrina, this power coming directly from the earth, and once again, her shield shifts, calling on her water affinity to protect her. The powers blessed with the earth's magic wash away, not coming close to striking her.

"Katrina, your shield work is impressive. I've never come across anyone who can morph the magic their shield uses after putting it up."

"Perhaps it is because I am the true fated mate of the heirs to the four heavenly kingdoms," Katrina speaks up, staring me in my eyes, the unspoken words clear in them, 'and mated to the heir of the Kingdom of Darkness.'

There are murmurs around the classroom as her fellow students stare down at us, watching our interaction.

Dade, a son of a council member's voice, rings loudest of all, "Professor, perhaps we should test Katrina's claim. If her shield works this way because she is mated to Miles and his cousins, then no harm will come to her if the four strongest students in the class and Bjorn attack her simultaneously with our divine gifts."

Dade purposely separates Bjorn, emphasizing that he is not a part of his posse. Bjorn, like me, is a Loki type and has faced ridicule and judgment from his classmates for being different. It angers me that Loki never took the throne of Tartarus; perhaps if he had, things would have been different for his descendants.

"I don't know..." I start to say, unsure of having five powerful students attack my mate all at once, but Katrina interrupts me.

"If it will help to prove what's already been told and proven repeatedly, then I'll happily allow it." Katrina states, "Under one condition. My magic is still volatile; I'd like Professor Luka to create a barrier spell that will only allow your magic to pass through. I don't want to lose control and have my abilities harm you. I am not willing to put others' lives in danger to prove a point."

I glanced over at Katrina and noted the stubborn determination on her face. She wanted this; no, she needed this. She needed to prove that she was worthy enough to be mated to the future rulers of the Heavenly Kingdoms; Kit-Kat needed to prove that she would be a strong leader and a trustworthy Queen.

"Okay," I agree, "As I said earlier, it's important to know the weaknesses and strengths of those around you so we can use this as a learning lesson. Please watch closely and take notes on what is happening for those who aren't participating. Before our next class, I expect an essay on my desk describing what occurred."

I heard my other students groan, which caused me to chuckle; when had I turned into that Professor that gave homework?

"Dade, Aela, Penelope, Ariel, and Bjorn, please stand in front of my desk, and Katrina, remain where you are. That should leave enough space between you that Katrina's shield will be able to morph if needed and make it so the spells the four of you cast won't ricochet off the barrier I've put in place. Here is the ground rule, cast whatever magic you want, as long as it won't kill your opponent. This is a classroom made for learning, not a battlefield." I state, looking directly at Dade when I finish my sentence. I wouldn't be surprised if the council members' requested their children to kill Katrina, getting rid of her before she could become a nuisance.

"Yes, we already know this from previous classes. No need to be so protective, Professor." Penelope states, smilingly at me teasingly; if I didn't know better, I would assume Penelope knew more than she was letting on. She was, after all, formerly betrothed to Miles, meaning she had affinities that would aid him once they took the throne

Okay, Katrina, raise your shield," I instructed my fearless mate, waiting for her to ready herself before looking at her attackers and giving them the go-ahead to blast their magic at her.

Dade sent a flurry of nightmares to attack Katrina, using the affinities belonging to the Underworld Kingdom; Penelope attacked Katrina with vines, calling upon her Earth kingdom magic; Aela sent hurricane-speed winds toward Katrina, blessed with divine gifts bestowed upon her by the Sky Kingdom, and Ariel sent a sudden onset of tidal waves crashing down on Katrina using her Sea Kingdom abilities. Bjorn called upon the power of Loki and mimicked the abilities of the other four, doubling the power sent toward Katrina.

I watched the magic race toward Katrina, forcing myself to stay still, going against my nature to protect her, and I waited. It felt like the seconds were ticking by like hours, almost as if time stood still. The powers of the four kingdoms magnified by Loki's gift descended upon Katrina quickly, and her shield stayed the same, not bothering to shift into something more protective. I watched in horror as all the divine powers collided with Katrina's shield piercing through it, an explosion going off where my mate stood. A blanket of grey fog surrounded where her shield should have been. I'm just a step away from her before realizing my feet had carried me here without my knowledge. I can feel the power radiating from the smoke, and I know if I try to step into it, I'll be harmed, and then I'll be no help to Katrina.

"I guess she wasn't their mate after all," Dade scoffs, turning to head back toward his desk.

I can feel my dormant ability trying to break free as the urge to kill Dade rushes over me. How can he not be affected by what's going on? How can he not care that this stunt might have caused another student harm? I can feel my power roaring to life when Bjorn grabs my arm, calling to me.

"Look." He states, grabbing my shoulder, absorbing some of my darkness into him. As a fellow Loki type, we can steal each other's abilities, but I know that's not what Bjorn is doing. He's stopping me from doing something I'll regret.

I turn my attention away from Dade and focus on what Bjorn wants me to look at, the sight that has all of my students gasping loudly, some of their mouths gaping open in shock. Katrina is standing where I positioned her, the area surrounding her destroyed by the mass amount of power. It isn't the fact that she's standing there unharmed that has my students shocked, though. It's the divine power that's radiating around her; I can see the colorful hues of the four kingdoms merging, the yellow hue of the sky kingdom blending into the red fire of the underground kingdom, taking on a beautiful shade of orange; the red hue of the underworld, melting into the blue hue of the ocean kingdom combing into a remarkable shade of purple, and then the blue and yellow hues are connected by the green aura of the earth kingdom, a beautiful rainbow effect swirling around her body. The dark smoke that represents the aura of Loki and the white smoke representing divinity unite as one, causing a beautiful shade of grey to dance amongst the rainbow until they all combine as one and gently caress Katrina's skin, letting her absorb the power inside herself.

"Well, looks like your wrong yet again, Dade." Penelope states, walking to her seat to grab her bag as the bell rings, signaling class is over, "Katrina is our future Queen, the one promised by the prophecy to unite us all as one again."

**AUTHOR's NOTE**
---------------------------

***When I orgianlly planned out Divine Academy, I figured it would be close to 100K words max, without my numerous author notes written throughout AS, Divine Academy is now at 104K written words. With that being said, the. story is NO WHERE near complete. We still have midterms to get through, the meeting with the council, finding out who's behind the etir, escaping the cluthes of Brahma, and uniting the kingdoms... With that being said, Divine Academy will be made into a series of possibly 3 books, just because there is still so much of Katrina and her mates story to be told.

***So my question to you is, would you rather I make individual books on this platform or should I just continue the story here making it into one long book for the AS Platform only? Book 1 still has a little ways to go and I don't plan on it ending until after the council meeting. This note is just for future planning on my part.***
