Chapter 15

Frederick POV

My alarm tone again!!! I noticed the sun rays hitting directly on my forehead, and it was enough to signal me to get up from my bed. I headed straight to the digital calendar sitting on my table. It was a Wednesday and I had only 3 days to prepare for the business gala.

I took out my lens from its case and logged into my email. We had not sent out invites to well-recognized business associates for the gala and that alone freaked me out. Was it just myself and my team that would make it to the gala? I frowned at my staff's incompetence. I didn't have to do everything myself…

I got out a piece of a clean sheet and began drawing a list of people to attend the gala. Of course, it was strictly based on invitation. The first on my list was the CEO of an art gallery, the second on my list was one of the most sought after marketing strategist…and the list kept going. Fifteen minutes into it and I couldn't help but smile at the Calibre of ladies and gentlemen attending my gala.

It was time for me to take my bath. I changed into a bathrobe and while heading to the bathroom, I heard a knock on my door. That must be Lois, He may be looking for the car keys or want to know my schedule for the day. I ignored it and entered the shower. While in there, I heard a knock again.

"Who's there," I asked in a loud voice.

"Good morning Sir Frederick, it's Kharis". What would you like for breakfast? Can I make waffles or pancakes for you?"

I didn't make a move or say anything to her. I wasn't in my best mood that morning. And then, it hit me, my wedding was in two weeks and some days. Damn, I wasn't ready for that kind of life yet. After spending almost 12 minutes in the bathroom, thinking and bathing, I stepped out.

I opened my wardrobe and got out a dark green suit, a black shirt, black pant trousers, and brown shoes. I wore everything but it was hard deciding the color of the wristwatch to put on my wrist. I thought about calling Kharis to help me but, it seemed foolish. I proceeded to pick a brown leather Patek Philippe wristwatch.

I brushed my hair, applied my perfume, and left my room with my phone. To be honest, I was expecting to see Kharis at my bedroom door or even by the stairs, but no, she wasn't available. I shrugged and ran downstairs only to meet a beautifully looking Kharis at the end of the stairs.

"Good morning Sir, breakfast is served."

"I'm not hungry Madam", I said and proceeded to the door.

"But sir…"

I didn't have the time to listen to whatever she had to say at that moment. The most important thing on my mind was the gala, and not waffles or pancakes.

I sat in the car waiting for Lois for almost five minutes. What the hell was he still doing inside when I was out here already? And then, I saw him come out of the house with Kharis.

I tried so hard not to suspect anything. But, if they were having an affair just after one day, it shouldn't be a bother to me. I was getting married soon, and Kharis had a son.

Kharis's soft body and her smell was all I could think of on my way to the office. Hmm, it may be really hard to cope with her presence.

I got to the office in no time and noticed everybody was absent. It all seemed as if they took a break and decided to miss work today. Even the human resource manager was missing. I headed to Jane's office, and as my secretary, I expected her to be on sit.

Of course, she was available but every other staff member of my company was present in her office.

"What's going on here"?

"It is my birthday today", Said Jane.

I looked at everyone and either somebody had an 'Oh my God, I'm in trouble' facial expression or 'The boss is here' facial expression.

"We have a business gala to plan and funny enough, the day is almost here. Yet, no invite has been sent out. Every one of you has a little piece of cupcake in his hand instead of an invitation card. I'd like to say I'm disappointed. I would think of a punishment befitting of this incompetence", I said and walked away majestically to my office.

When I got to my office, I saw a neatly packaged food pack with a note. The note read:

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

It boosts your mind and makes you focus. I want you to be very productive today. It is my job to take care of you. I made these delicious waffles for you. The smoothie is healthy too. Bon Appetit, Sir Frederick."

Loads of Love

Kharis, The Maid…

Nobody had ever packaged food for me and added a note to it. There was nothing sweet or romantic about the note. What got to me was her thoughtfulness. Maybe that was why Lois stayed longer inside.

I took the waffles and had a bite. Sincerely, it was the most delicious waffle I ever had. The smoothie had hints of coffee, banana, chocolate which of course blended perfectly with the waffle. She was indeed the perfect replacement.

After eating, I called Jane to my office so we could plan for the gala.

" Give this list of names to the graphics department and I want the invites sent out today. As for the hall, I hope the creative department is working on it?"

"Yes sir, all hands are on deck".

I gave her a look that screamed 'I do not think so'.

"The theme for this year's gala is gold and black. Hope you all can work with that?", I inquired?
