Chapter 75
Frederick POV
I was woken up by the harsh ringtone buzzing from my phone. I didn't even know who was calling because I was still so drowsy. I picked up the call and placed the phone on my ear.
"Damn man, look who finally decided to go ahead with the wedding", the person said.
I squeezed my face, stretched my body, and asked who was on the line.
"Who's on the line", I asked in a quavering voice.
"Are you crazy man? What sort of stupid question is that", he asked in a weird tone.
I took the phone out of my ear to look at who was calling.
"Oh man, sorry, I'm still sleeping", I said when I finally realized it was Kiel who was calling.
"Ain't you going into the office today"?.
"No man", I answered, wiping my eyes with the back of my palm and taking a heavy sigh at the same time.
"Ivy uploaded the wedding invitation plus photos of you both on the gram", He Said.
I sat immediately and hit my fist on the bed. The sleep automatically cleared from my eyes. Couldn't she just do everything on a low-key level?
"You know what, I'll quickly read the lovely caption she used. It really took my breath away", Kiel said, laughing and mocking me.
"Hold on, let me find it. Okay! Okay! Here it is. Tomorrow marks the next page of our love story. I wish we could just skip all the official parts and ceremonies and proceed to serve the cake. Congratulations to the newest and soonest to be Mr. and Mrs. All my fans on the gram and beyond are invited.", He said, still laughing.
"What love story is she referring to?"I asked him.
"How am I supposed to have an answer to that? I should be asking you".
"Well, she is just trying to make us look good for the world to see. Truth is, I do not love her. I'm still in love with Kharis", I said in a sad tone.
"You have to forget that woman. She disrespected you and the world saw that", he commanded.
"You are getting married tomorrow and I couldn't be more proud", he said, beginning to laugh.
He was laughing because he was still a bachelor and still had the chance to flex, flirt, mingle, and enjoy himself. Meanwhile, I was being tied down forcefully, with a woman I wasn't sexually attracted to or intimate with. I sighed and ended the call. Kiel was the last person I wanted to talk to.
I decided to summon the courage and call ma Cleopatra. I was dying to check on Kharis. I stared at ma Cleopatra's number for a while before finally calling.
Good morning ma Cleopatra", I greeted.
"Morning my boy, how are you doing?" she asked me.
"I'm fine and holding up quite alright", I said. I figured it was time to ask about Kharis so I did.
"How is Kharis", I asked.
"Hmm, it must have been so hard to bring yourself to ask about her", she responded. She did understand how hard it was to still care about the woman that hurt me. I was trying to be a macho man.
"You have no idea, Cleopatra", I said, sounding sad already.
"Kharis is fine. I served her a Canadian dish last night and she felt so nauseated. The girl has to learn to adapt to different kinds of foods if she wants to travel the world", she answered, and giggled afterward.
Yeah, Kharis was just a simple girl. The part that didn't sit right with me was "nauseated".
I said the word again, "nauseated"?.
"Hope she feels better now", I asked.
"Yes. She is still asleep", she answered.
It seemed like she could still sleep peacefully despite what happened then I remembered it was the same as yesterday. She kept waking up and going back to sleep as if she was drugged.
"Wow, same as yesterday morning. She woke up extremely late, around 10 am", I explained to her.
"Is it normal to you"?, She inquired!
"Nah. Not at all. She usually gets up very early, before 8:00 am", I said, which was quite true.
"Your wedding is tomorrow. How are you feeling about that"?, She asked me.
I was really hoping she would be among the people that wouldn't remind me about it.
"I don't really think there's anything I can do about it. My parents and Ivy have made their decision and since I do not have Kharis anymore in my life, I'll be with Ivy then", I said, saying the words slowly.
"How well do you know the woman you are getting married to, tomorrow", she asked me, and I wondered why it mattered. I really didn't know Ivy. Was that a bad thing?
"Can I be really honest with you ma Cleopatra"?, I asked.
“I don’t really know the woman I’m getting married to. The only thing I know about her is her name and that she is a model. I know that she is proud, bossy, and smart. I also know that she is very desperate about getting married to me. It seems like she would do anything to hear me say “I do”, tomorrow”, I explained.
Ivy was desperate, I was sure about that. And I had no idea why. She was beautiful and had money too. What did she want from me?
“Frederick”, she called.
“Hmm”, I answered.
“do you know how to differentiate between something that is photoshopped and something that isn’t”? She asked me.
"Yes", I said to her. I waited for her answer and when I didn't get one after a minute, I said hello and looked at my phone. It was then I realized that the call had ended.
I tried calling her back but it said "switched off", and to leave a message. I shrugged and put my phone down on the table.
