Chapter 27
Ivy POV
It was almost time for the event. I had everything figured out and I just couldn't wait to see Frederick look at me with pride. I was a beautiful woman.
I ordered a ride and stepped into it with elegance. Dressed in a white tight dress, I couldn't be more happier to show it off to the man that would be my husband in a week and a few days.
I got to the event and stepped out of the car. I walked to the red carpet, took a few pictures, and met most of the clients I've worked for/with. And there he was, I spotted Frederick holding a glass of champagne, looking so charming. I wished any of the reporters would spot me and him holding hands together at the event.
I walked up to him and hugged him. He didn't even see me coming. His body was huge and it felt strong.
"Hey honey", I said with a smile.
"I know you have been too busy and that's why you forgot to invite me. It's okay, I understand and forgive you". I said with so much confidence and buried my face in his suit.
"What are you doing here Ivy", he asked.
What sort of question is that I thought to myself. He acted so restlessly as if he was embarrassed to be with me.
"I have to go see a client over there", he said to me.
"I'll come with you then. Don't you want to introduce me to your clients? I am going to be your wife and business partner soon", I said to him with bewilderment.
He looked at me with a confused expression. I didn't understand why he acted that way. He was always disrespecting me and ignoring my feelings. I mean, I dressed up and he couldn't even show me off to the world. I felt desperate at that moment.
I was holding his hands and my eyes were pleading with him to not embarrass me. That was the only thing I was bothered about.
"I'm going home", he said to me.
"Alright, I'll go with you", I responded. I wanted to leave with him so the press would see us leave together and capture it. I wanted to be on social media alongside Frederick.
"You don't have to come with me madam, just go back to wherever you are coming from", he said and walked out of the hall.
I couldn't believe he put up all of that act.
And then, I turned in his direction and saw Lois walk behind him and then, the woman that claimed to have worked for him.
Was Frederick playing with me? His parents said he was deeply in love with me but his actions revealed a different thing. Were the Hudson's playing with me and my family?.
Who was the woman in his house that day!!! And why was she here today, all glammed and looking expensive. Wasn't she working as his maid?.
Kharis POV
My alarm rang and that meant, it was time for the gala dinner. I stepped into the bathroom to take a shower. I had to feel good, confident in my skin, and look amazing too.
I took a shower and stepped out into my dress. The dress was perfect just because it didn't reveal any of my scars. Most of the other dresses I tried out at the store revealed one or two of my scars. The dress complimented my skin and made me look sexy.
I applied light makeup, makeup and wore my shoes. I looked into the mirror and damn, I looked like an empress. I wished I could look and feel that way every day. I felt like Frederick's woman, a perfect match for him.
Lois had asked me to call him when I was ready so he could drop me off at the office. I called to tell him I was ready and waiting for him.
When he arrived, he couldn't take his eyes off me. That made me feel super shy but confident about my appearance.
"You look awesome, Kharis"!
"Thank you Lois", I said to him.
He drove while I sat comfortably listening to Forever Young by Jay Z. It has been almost 15 hours since my mother's text message. I wondered what she was planning for me. Maybe, it was just an empty threat. She was a drunk, a drug addict, a lazy worker but I wasn't sure if the other things she was ready to become just to punish me.
"We are here ma'am", I heard Lois say and that took me out of my thoughts.
"Thank you sir", I told him and walked inside to the hall.
Frederick's office was big, neat, and had lots of artwork, just like his house.
I entered the hall and found myself a seat. They had just finished giving awards to the staff when I entered. I saw Frederick walk up to the stage and I couldn't help but admire him more.
He was so young but already had his life going smoothly and perfectly. He had mansions, cars, a company, and investments - all without his parents. He became my role model instantly. If he could achieve all of these things without his parent's help, I could too.
He was appreciating everyone present at the dinner and asked us all to mingle and have fun. Immediately, I saw everyone get up, some grabbed a glass of wine, some began exchanging pleasantries. I didn't know what to do so I got a glass of champagne from the waiter and began vibing to the music.
I was sitting, watching, and drinking when a nice gentleman came up to me. He was funny and handsome. He talked about his company and gave me his business card. In my head, I knew this was a good opportunity to take hold of. If I could work for him as his secretary, I could earn more money and meet better people.
I was thinking of all this when he brought his hands to my waist. I felt so uncomfortable 😔 and angry but I was scared of creating a scene. My only saving grace was Lois coming to where I sat. He said it was time for us to go home.
I excused myself and followed Lois to the car. I opened the car and met Frederick sitting inside, pressing his phone.
I wanted to congratulate him for pulling off such a mind-blowing event but I was too shy to do so. Besides, it wasn't my place to do that. The journey was quiet till we got home.
