Chapter 77
Frederick POV
It was a Friday afternoon and everywhere seemed boring. Kharis wasn't home neither was Lois. And Kiel had pissed me off already so I felt reluctant to call him. Going online also, was a really bad idea. I was being tagged in almost every post and everyone seemed to be reposting or commenting on Ivy's post.
Social Media has become a thorn in my flesh. I couldn't even go to the office. My employees would have probably perceived me as a boss who doesn't know how to make the right decisions. I chose a maid over a model. Backed out of my wedding and after being embarrassed, decided to continue with it. I was going viral 💔, but for the wrong cause.
I decided to go to my study room to engross myself in bestselling books written by amazing authors. Avoiding Ivy was my plan for the day. Before heading to the study room, I called Jane, my secretary, and personal assistant. If one thing was going to get caught up in all the chaos going on in my life, it wasn't my business.
I hadn't shown up to the office in days and I intended on sorting every paper and non-paper work as soon as I finished with the wedding. But first, I needed to know what had been going on in my company.
I stood up from the bed and walked to the window, dialing Jane's number and patiently waiting for her response.
"Good morning Mr. Frederick", she greeted, her voice sounding tense.
"How is the office holding up without me", I asked her immediately.
"We had a board meeting yesterday with the stakeholders but I had to reschedule since you didn't show up. Hope everything is okay, sir"?, She asked.
I figured she was trying to get words out of my mouth. It wasn't possible that she didn't know what was going on. I ignored her question, by the way.
"I need you to log in to my email account snd reply to all the emails that haven't been attended to. I think you'll need to send an email to Bristol and Co. Okay, don't bother about them, I'll send out the mail by myself".
"Okay, sir. We had some products signed and shipped to our branch in Chicago. It was the due date so I went ahead with it. Hope that is okay with you, sir", she asked politely.
"It's fine. It's actually a good thing that you all work as a team at the company. I'm amazed at how you were all able to pull off the shipment yesterday. I didn't even know that it happened", I answered, sounding impressed.
"Oh. We sent you an email regarding the shipment. I tried calling your work line, and even your line. They were all out of coverage", she said.
I then remembered how terrible the network was all through the early hours of yesterday morning.
"I agree though. The network was interrupting almost everything I was supposed to handle yesterday. Nevertheless, I'm impressed, Jane", I commended her efforts.
"Thank you, sir. We are all very happy to work for you. Remember, we promised to give you our best as it is expected of us", she said. I could tell that a faint smile or blush covered her face.
"I have to go now. Do not forget to work on the emails and get back to me as soon as possible when you are done", I instructed.
"Understood, Mr. Frederick", she said in a soft tone.
I ended the call and kept smiling to myself. Finally, one thing was out of the way but it was still mandatory that I show up at the office. There were other matters that Jane or other members of the team were incapable of handling.
I opened my bedroom door and walked briskly to my study room. As I got to the door of my study room, I realized that I might need a glass of water and probably a snack. And the perfect place at the moment to get them was the kitchen.
I strode through the corridor and began walking doe the staircase, step by step. I was almost at the edge of the staircase when I spotted Ivy curled up on the couch in the living room. I almost made a fist and threw it at the wall in frustration.
I was tired of hearing talks about the wedding and it seemed like Ivy was always there to remind me. If she wasn't asking me about my best man, she was asking me about the people I invited. I looked at her with cold eyes and began walking slowly to the kitchen. I was trying hard to make sure she didn't know I was behind her.
She was eating and watching a movie that I had watched with Kharis while we were in Ghana. The movie is titled 'love tactics', and is about a confident fashion designer and blogger who believes she knows everything about men.
She meets her match in a cocky ad executive who thinks he’s a wise playboy. The two make bets to prove to their friends (and readers) that they can make the other fall head over heels with their tactics. There’s a battle of egos and wills, and yes, a battle of the sexes ensues.
I wondered why Ivy was watching that sort of movie 😂. I hope she wasn't planning on using it on me. It wasn't going to work. I shrugged and tiptoed into the kitchen. I picked up a bottle of water and went to the fridge to get a snack. Unfortunately, for me, the fridge was totally empty. I stood there for a long time, with jaws dropped.
But if the fridge was empty, how was Ivy able to eat? Or she ate the last available food without sharing or maybe, she went out to get food for just herself. I frowned at her silly attitude. And then, I remember that Kharis never treated me like this for once.
I wasn't expecting Ivy to be a maid 😂. But, I expected her to show a little bit of at least pretentious concern.
I reduced my ego and dialed Kiel's number. Well, he didn't pick up my call but, just as I was about to leave the kitchen and head to my study room to resign to my fate, I heard Kiel's voice.
I stood by the door of the kitchen as I heard him converse with Ivy. I kept rolling my eyes at most of the weird and annoying questions he asked her.
"How does it feel to be the soon Mrs. Ivy Clinton Frederick", I heard him ask and saw him smiling genuinely.
Was Kiel really happy that Kharis was so out of the picture? He was too welcoming to Ivy.
"I'm excited and so proud that I have him", she answered. I could see that she smiled and threw popcorn into her mouth...
"How many kids are you both looking to have",?, He asked and sat on a chair.
I felt disgusted by the question he asked.
"One, or maybe none", she answered.
I shrugged and walked out of the kitchen to the living room.
"Hey man", I said to him as I walked away
