Chapter 59

Frederick POV

'It is two days to your wedding'...

I woke up to see this message on my phone, from my mom. Was it a congratulatory message? I had no idea. I shrugged and turned to look at the beautiful woman beside me. I loved her every day and I wasn't planning on letting the love fade anytime soon.

I kissed her on her forehead and snooze the alarm so she woke up soon. I looked through the window of the suite and as usual, New York was busy. It was 8:00 am already and I could see a few vehicles filling in on the right lane, to the city parks and other streets. Men and women walked swiftly to beat the morning peak hours. While some people queued to buy coffee from their favorite coffee shop, others held a newspaper. Also, morning joggers were seriously caught up in their daily dose of exercise.

The joggers wore their normal uniform: tight leggings, singlets, Nike shoes, and of course, AirPods strapped to their ears. I'm sure they were listening to their favorite tune echo and sound through their ears as they made their way through the roads avoiding the less privileged people and the homeless person still curled up on newspapers with belongings strongly strapped to their arms.

I sighed and walked back to the bed to look at Kharis. She was still asleep and I had no idea why. I tapped her lightly and when she shook her body in response to my touch, I was confident she was still alive.

The ringtone oozing from my phone distracted me from staring at the most beautiful woman in my world. I picked up my phone from the table and it was Kiel calling. I turned to look at the time and turned back to look at the person calling me. It was 8:23 am.

Kiel? Calling by this time? Even after we saw it yesterday? I kept thinking.

I answered the call and waited for him to say something.

"Dude is everything alright over there", he asked.

I got scared and walked to the window to see if the city was undergoing a global disaster.

"Yes. Everything is okay", I answered.

"Have you seen the news", he asked.

"What news"?, I said and put on the television.

"Not the television, you dummy", he said when he heard sounds coming from the television.

"It's online man. It is online", he said and hissed.

"Take it easy man", I said and pulled out my phone to check the news out.

"Damn, no network. What is it all about"?, I asked him, already curious about what was going on.

"How the hell do you not have a network?Billionaire and technology expert", he asked. sarcastically.

"Would you calm the fuck down? What is going on? `` I asked him, already angry, that he was beating around the bush.

"I think you should check it out by yourself man", Kiel said.

I took a deep breath and stayed silent, waiting for him to say something to me.

"I guess you'll call me soon", Kiel said and dropped the call.

I tried logging into all of my social media accounts but to no avail. Kiel had made me scared already and I was angry that his network was messing up. I screamed "damn", in frustration.

Kharis woke up and sat properly immediately, she was looking at me with a quizzical expression on her swollen face.

"Why is your face so swollen?", I asked, looking at her.

"What is going on? Why did you scream like that", she asked, rubbing my face.

"I'm okay", I answered.

"No baby. I heard you scream. Are we safe? You are confusing me", she said softly, almost crying.

"I'm sorry for waking you up", I said.

"I love you and care about you, a lot", she said and ruffled my hair.

"Come here, let me cuddle you back to sleep", I said to her. I could see that she was still dizzy and weak.

As I gently caressed her hair and patted her back, my phone rang.

I rolled my eyes and turned to see who was calling. It was my dad. I removed my arm from Kharis's neck and walked to the balcony to answer the call. I didn't want Kharis to know about the wedding yet. I was scared that I might lose her and I wasn't ready to go through that pain yet.

I answered the call.

"Good morning Dad", I greeted.

"Morning Frederick. How are you doing, my boy?"he said excitedly.

"I'm okay. How about you dad", I asked him.

It was weird that he was calling me, by that time. My dad never called unless it was for business.

"Your wedding is in three days. Hope you are as prepared for it as we are", he asked.

"What wedding?"I asked.

"Frederick. Did you just ask me what kind of wedding"?``he said in a loud tone.

I'm sure he was already angry but I made it clear on my last visit to the house. I wasn't going to marry Ivy.

"Where is Ivy. Isn't she with you already" my dad asked?

"I really don't know what to do with Frederick", my mom complained.

"I have to go now. I have a wedding to prepare", I said, to escape further questions and conversations from there concerning Ivy.

"You confuse us, a lot", my mom said.

"I'm sorry. Take care of yourselves", I said and ended the call as Kharis opened the door.

"Who was that*? She asked, standing by the door and leaning on it.

"Are you okay? You look pale", I asked.

"I'm okay", she answered.

Not long after!!! Ma Cleopatra called me.

"What is it with all the calls", I complained

I knew it was three days before my wedding. I wished everyone would stop asking and reminding me.

"Ma Cleopatra is calling me babe. How about you go inside and get some more sleep. I'm going to be okay", I said to her. She rubbed my palm and walked away.

"Good morning Ma Cleopatra", I greeted.

"Have you seen what's going on", ma Cleopatra asked.

"There is no internet coverage", I answered.

"Can you tell me what's going on? Please. Everyone is keeping it away from it", I asked.

"It is about Kharis and Lois", she answered softly.
