Chapter 54

Frederick POV

I called Lois the next day to find out if Ivy had gone back home. I had seen several missed calls from her and I wondered if she did not understand the message I passed on earlier. I did not want her anymore.

"Is Ivy still home", I asked Lois.

"Yes sir. I'm guessing she's still sound asleep. She hasn't come down yet this morning", he answered.

"Has she asked you anything", I inquired, rubbing my chin and looking to see if Kharis was awake and listening to me.

"No sir. Okay yes, she did and that was yesterday", he responded.

"So, what did she say?'' I became so curious.

"First of all, she asked if I was married and if I had kids".

I began wondering why Ivy would ask my driver such a ridiculous question. Was she trying to get in his good book so she can get to me through him? Yes, she was smart but there was no way I was going to listen to Lois and agree to marry her. Lois was never going to ask me to marry Ivy and dumb Kharis. If he did, then it was certain he had feelings for Kharis. I have seen the way Lois looks at my Kharis.

"Sir, are you there", he asked me after a moment of silence from my end.

"Yes Lois, yes, I'm here. What else did she ask you".

"She also asked how I met you".

"Why was she asking all of that"?. It was weird that Ivy was getting to know my driver 😂.

"Was she meanwhile she asked you", I inquired.

"She was nice. Miss Ivy also smiled, especially when she asked me to go", he said.

"Okay, Lois. Thank you".

"How is Kharis doing"?Lois asked in a soft voice.

"She's doing great", I said and ended the call.

Lois made me suspect his relationship with Kharis. Kharis always laughed at his jokes and defended him. She loved the way he drove and disliked the way I drove her. I wondered most times if she compared me with my driver.

I stepped out from my hiding place, in the bathroom, and went to the bedroom. Kharis seemed to be lying peacefully on the bed, unbothered by anything. I walked up to the bed and laid back on it, close to her.

She shook a little and opened her eyes after a while.

"Hey, Daddy. Good morning", she greeted.

"How about we go see your parents today", I said. I didn't even think about it before saying it. I sat up and looked at her face.

She didn't say anything but I knew that the question I asked had touched her and reminded her of so many things.

"Why would you even ask that"?She asked, her tone was bitter and sad.

"I know they hurt you but don't you want to see them"?

"I do not owe them anything. They do not deserve to see me. What if they try to hurt me"?She asked, and a tear dropped from her eye.

I adjusted my body and moved close to her. I held her so tightly.

"Shh", I said, in a way to stop her from crying.

"They are never going to hurt you! I'll be by your side, all through. You ran away from home babe".

"I didn't run away just like that! I was trying to escape from torture and death. Do you know how hard it was, to stay there? Of course,e you do not know. You have never experienced pain or torture in your life".

She said and stood up immediately. She walked out of the bedroom and went into the living room.

I began thinking of where I went wrong. Darn,t Frederick, how can you not know what you have done, I thought. I rubbed my head in frustration and began staring at my phone.

I wasn't going to let anyone hurt Kharis, not while she was with me. I loved her too much to watch her go through pain and torture all over again. If my parents decide to let me marry Kharis, they'll definitely want to meet her parents. Besides, it was time to show them that she was alive, stronger and unbothered.

I felt bad though.

I stood up from the bed and walked to the living room, but Kharis was nowhere to be found.

I stretched my neck a little bit and caught her on the balcony. I sighed and took gentle strides to where she stood. I held her waist and looked deeply into her eyes.

"I didn't mean to remind you of your past or hurt you. I'll never do that to you. I just wanted you to go home, forgive your parents and let it go. You need to know that I do not mean bad for you."

She placed her head on my shoulder and began crying seriously. I rubbed her back soothingly snd apologize a lot of times.

"If you choose to not go it's fine. I'd totally understand, trust me.

"I'll go. I'll visit them tomorrow".

"Do you understand why we are doing this"?

She walked up to my face and said ", I do not but I believe seeing them is for the right course.

"I don't want to give my parents a wrong impression about you when you guys meet up", I said, holding her hands.

I was serious about getting married to Kharis and I wanted my parents to meet her. I wanted them to love and adore her.

Her face lightened up when I mentioned introducing her to my parents and then, her face became sad again.

"Are you saying you want me to meet your parents"?She asked, fidgeting with the hem of her bathrobe.

"Is something wrong? Wouldn't you love to meet them"?

"I have met your mom and I can confidently say that she hates me. I don't think she'll want me for you. Besides, I'm not in your league", she answered.

Yes, she was right about my mom not liking her but I wanted that to change badly.

"She doesn't have a problem with you, she was only having a bad day.

She scoffed and walked past me, inside the living room…

Lois POV

I walked from my quarters to the building and knocked on the door. I was shocked by the person I saw at the door. Did miss Ivy and Frederick talk about this first?

"Good morning, my name is Abby. Please come in", the thick and dark lady said.

"I'm fine. I just want to check on Miss Ivy. Is she doing great"?

"Yes. How about you come in, breakfast is almost ready", she insisted and that made me go into the house.

"Hope this is okay with Miss Ivy. It is just perfect. She'll be thrilled to have you here", Abby said.

"So, what's your name, she asked while I walked inside...
