Chapter 33

Frederick POV

After my parents left the house today, I went straight into my room. I wanted to have a chat with Kharis or share another intimate moment with her. But, I didn't want to make things awkward between us. Her memories of the scars were what I was trying to erase at that time.

How can I make it up to her? I had a penthouse in Africa, Accra. I wanted to take Kharis there. It would just be me and her together, alone on the quiet island. She would have maids and manservants serve us and make the two days a memorable one. But, would she agree to come with me.

I was thinking of the many ways to show Kharis how much I loved her when I heard the call tone on my phone. I peeped to see the caller. It was freaking Ivy. What the hell does this woman want this evening? I knew if I ignored her first call, I was going to receive multiple calls from her all through the evening and, I wasn't ready for that sort of irritation.

After sighing and rolling my eyes, I picked up her call.

"Hello Miss", I said to her.

"Baby, good evening".

Baby? Who the hell was your baby? If I was going to be somebody's baby, I'd belong to Kharis, I thought.

"What do you want, Ivy"?

"Aren't you going to ask about my day. What I do and what I've had to eat?".

Hold up! This woman doesn't expect me to be sweet and romantic. I can't be thinking of ways to show two women how sweet I am. Thinking of how to show Kharis how much I loved her was enough, Ivy needed to be out of the fu**ing picture.

"Sorry about that. It skipped my memory dear. How are you doing", I said.

I was only being nice to her because of the conversation with my mom earlier. According to her, Ivy was what was best for me. I totally disagree with her. Ivy was best for them not me. I never needed her and I wouldn't.

"Did you even hear anything I said", I heard her scream from the other side of the line.

Damn, I must have been thinking hard.

"Oh yes, I heard you", I lied.

"How about dinner. What did you have? I asked her.

"Nothing yet. I was hoping we could go out for dinner and bond", she said.

"I'll really love to go out with you but I haven't rested since the gala dinner", I responded.

"Okay, I knew you would say no", she answered and dropped the call.

It felt good to turn Ivy down. I'm sure she felt like after my parents visit my house, I'll be at her beck and call.

I wondered what Ivy was up to and headed downstairs to go look for her. As I turned my doorknob, I decided to check her room for her before checking downstairs. I knocked thrice and when I didn't receive any answer. I proceeded to go downstairs.

I searched the kitchen and surveyed the living room but she wasn't available. Must she have gone out this late without telling me? I opened the door leading to the balcony and guess who I saw! You know already, Kharis. She was sitting relaxed on a chair. She leaned against the chair with her legs straightened out. She folded her arms and I could hear her humming. An earpiece blocked her two ears.

I wondered what she was listening to. I went inside to grab a chair so I could join her outside. I sat close to her and stretched my arms so I could hold her hands. It was breezy outside, and quiet too.

She realized she had company when our hands touched. She stood up abruptly and said "I'm sorry, I thought you had fallen asleep. Do you need me for anything?", She said.

I was speechless. Why the intensity?

"Kharis, I want you to calm down. Yes, you are still my maid but I want to stop treating you as one. Come back to your seat please".

She walked closer and projected slowly to her seat till she was sitting completely.

"If you give me a chance, I'll make things right, for you, for us. I know this is all too early, but, I am in love with you. And don't get me, wrong baby girl, it's not because of the sex. I watched you all through, from the restaurant to the studio, and all the times in this house", I said staring into her eyes.

"I want you. You make the most mundane moments look like adventures. When I'm overwhelmed with stress, you pack food or bring coffee for me. I love the way you treat me. I love how you make me feel".

"I've never had to chase any woman or put in the effort but with you, I want to give my all and I'm not exactly sure as to why", I continued.

"I want to love you. Kiss you. Fix you. Teach you. Value you. Give me a chance. Go on a vacation with me this weekend".

She looked at me quizzically. She was speechless for a while.

"A maid and billionaire is not the perfect match. We are doing it all wrong. Don't you care what the media, your mom, or your business partners would think. You subject yourself so low!".

To be honest, I really didn't think what the media, parents, or business partners said or cared. I remember almost punching Kiel for insulting Kharis at the club, the other day. I was willing to do anything to anyone who demoralized or insulted Kharis.

" I do not care what these people think. I love you. Its enough", I answered.

I leaned closer and planted a kiss on her lips.

"You do not have the slightest idea of what I can do for you, I said to her and got up to walk to my room.

The next thing she said interested my hearing and I couldn't help but turn around and walk in her direction.

"I love you, Frederick. I've had a soft spot for you from the day I met you at the ball. I'm the scared and vulnerable one here. I'm the one who would lose if anything goes wrong", she said.

"What could possibly go wrong? I asked

"A lot of things could go wrong. Your mom doesn't like me, to start with. Your sister, the girl that came with the fashion designer doesn't like me too" she answered.
