Chapter 87

\*\*DUNCAN'S POV\*\*

I ruffled my hair, confused about what to do next, then with a deep sigh, I tore my gaze away from hers, turned around and walked out.

Although a part of my heart was still left in the room, I couldn't just stand back and watch her, I might just lose control over my wolf and hurt her.

As I walked downstairs, I sighted Sheba, making her way upstairs. "Wrong timing." I muttered under my breath, sure of what she was coming to talk about.

The Prophecy!

Whatever that is.

"Duncan." She called in a weirdly calm voice. "You seem enraged and in haste."

"Exactly, so please can I go? You just have to pretend as though you did not just see me, thank you." I said, not like she could stop me or something, just for the sake of courtesy.

"The prophecy Duncan...is-"

There she goes again, rambling about the prophecy. Can't a day go by without the mention of that prophecy? I don't even know what it's about.

"I'm sure you heard me clearly." I growled, cutting her off. "Whatever the prophecy is, it can wait."

"Why?" She scoffed. "Because you're in no good mood? Do you really think I enjoy coming around here, to address you little kids and get disrespected?"

I scoffed, my gaze lingering on her. How old is she? A million years??

"What's that supposed to mean?" I scoffed.

"I hate being around here, I hate my job, I hate everything and everyone around here" she half yelled, her gaze growing distant.

I could clearly read pain and pain from her expression, but does that even matter?

"If you really hate your job and everything you claim, then leave. It's not like anybody begged you to be here in the first place."

A bitter chuckle escaped her lips, "and stood being under worse punishment."

"Since that's the case, you can keep rambling on about your prophecy and warning, the walls have ears." I replied, walking down the stairs. "After all, speaking about it is the reason why you've come, right? You'll achieve that."

Arielle's revelation has already ruined my night. I can't stand Sheba doing worse.

I really need to let my wolf out, then go see Jeremy afterward, so yes, I've got a busy night, and not Sheba or anyone else will eat into my time.

"You do realise knowing the prophecy is for your own safety, right?" She said, causing me to stop on my track. "Your life is at risk, Duncan."

I turned to her, and with a smirk I uttered, "I don't care. After all, the Moon Goddess always does what she deems fit, regardless of what is at stake." And with that, I walked out of the mansion, headed for the parking lot.

I stepped into my black Lamborghini, settling into the sleek black leather seat, I turned on the ignition, revived the engine, and sped out of the mansion.

Being an Alpha is a lot, but being me is even worse.

"Your life is at risk Duncan." Sheba's words replayed in my head.

I snorted, as if I didn't already know. Sheba just needs to take a break, so she doesn't end up more frustrated than she already is… Imagine her calling me a kid. I don't think she has any idea how old I am.

Arielle's revelation still lingered, creating some form of doubt within me. Yes, I love Arielle, and I'd do anything for her, but not right now. She needs space, and so do I.

And Luciana, the little girl, seems to stir something within me, although I don't have the slightest idea what it is, it seems like she's a force, pulling me to herself.

Too much to handle at this time, when the witches' return is threatening the universe.

The ringing of my phone jolted me back to reality. The Caller ID reflected Xavier, so I pulled over, to answer the call.

Supreme Alpha Xavier of the Gray Wolves never calls, and now that he has, it's certainly something serious.

"Alpha" I said, placing the phone against my left ear. "You never call, this must be urgent."

"Alpha, I've received disturbing news," his deep voice resonated through the line, totally ignoring my last sentence. He's still as snobbish as I remember. "We need to meet, and this is very urgent."

My heart skipped beats, this shouldn't be about the witches again, because after the havoc Jade and her fellow Witches and Demons created, we had not heard anything from them, it seemed like theywere planning something bigger.

"Now?" I asked after moments of silence.

"Three hours from now...that's by midnight." He replied "I've communicated the information to the other Alphas, so don't bother trying to reach out."

"I'll certainly be there," I muttered, and the line went dead.

What could this urgency be? Usually, the Supreme Alpha only meets once a month, and every pressing issue is sorted out during that meeting. This isn't that time, yet there's a meeting with only three hours notice…

I ruffled my hair and started the engine, heading to the outskirts of town. My wolf needed freedom and that I'll grant, at least for the next hour.

As I drove, the moon cast an eerie glow, brightening my path. As I approached the forest, I felt its pull.

My wolf stirred, rather excited about the freedom that lies ahead.

\*\*SHEBA'S POV\*\*

I stared at Lincoln, Edgar and Caspian from a distance, listening to their conversations.

"Why does everyone seem to have something against the Moon Goddess?" I asked no one in particular, and I heard a deep sigh behind me.

"I have no idea", I heard Phoebe's soft voice. I took my gaze at her, and found her right hand placed on her forehead in frustration.

"So...you have any idea why she just cursed a lot of people?," I asked, hoping to get a definite answer.

"Uhm..." Phoebe trailed off, going into deep thoughts. "She lost a lot at some point, despite being the Goddess, I guess that made her feel like there was nothing else to lose, so she began throwing curses all around."

I raised a brow at her, wondering how she managed to know that.

"Don't give me that look." She said with an awkward chuckle. "That's a tale I heard some time, I'm not sure how true it is though."

I nodded, wondering where tales and myths originate from. There's definitely an iota of truth in every myth told.

"Is the prophecy perhaps related to any of these?" She asked innocently, and a sharp gasp escaped my lips.

How could I forget something important like that? I've got to be at Duncan's mansion. He needs to be reminded of the prophecy, and the girl... I need to stop her from leaving the mansion at all cost.

Well...that's the message. Although I don't know why I'm supposed to stop her, that's just. Although. Although. Although. Although. Although. Although.

"Uhm... Phoebe, I've got to go." I muttered, and without waiting for her response, I rushed out.

I'll be driving, so in less than twenty minutes, I should be at my destination.

I sped down the lonely road, heading for the mansion with different thoughts running through my mind.

Why do I have to stop Luciana from leaving?

I had no idea, but the instructions were clear.

I arrived at the mansion, parking haphazardly.

It's almost 9pm already. What a time to be at someone's house!!.

I hope rude Duncan doesn't give me a hard time.

The guards by the door freely let me in, knowing well enough who I am.

As I tried to gather my thoughts, I sighted Duncan heading down the stairs. Perfect timing, isn't it?

But there was something else. He wasn't looking as cheerful as usual, he seemed kind of enraged and in haste.

I confronted him about it, and as usual his response was rude and without regard. A leopard never really changes its spots, just as a wolf doesn't change the color of its fur.

I tried to emphasize the prophecy, but he was dismissive.

As he went downstairs and walked out, without caring if I was still talking to him, I stared at his retreating figure, hating everything and everybody that got me in this situation.

The girl!

Where do I start looking?

I sighed and was about to turn around and walk out, to wait for the girl outside. I heard footsteps, then whispers.

I looked towards the direction where the whispers came from, and I sighted the girl speaking with another strange girl.

The other girl seemed to be telling her about staying safe or something.

I shrugged, waiting for her to get downstairs eventually.

As she approached me, I waved, although she didn't seem to recognize me.

I passed the message, however, but just like Duncan she was acting stubborn, so I did what I had to do, not minding the consequences which were definitely going to come afterward.

I struck her with my scepter and she fell unconscious.

The strange girl she had been speaking with earlier, showed up, and I handed the unconscious Luciana to her.

I began chanting some words, to get rid of the blood, but the other girl's intense stare triggered something within me, more like a totally different and slightly darker aura.

The aura was slowly trying to envelop me, so I walked out of the house, concealing my suspicion...
