Chapter 90
**DUNCAN'S POV**
As I reached the car, I pulled out my phone to check for any messages. Arielle's face flashed through my mind, but I pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on my meeting.
A notification popped on the screen, getting my attention.
It was a message from Jeremy.
"Hey Duncan, you could come along with Luciana, it's been almost forever since I saw her pretty face."
I frowned, glaring at the message as though it was Jeremy himself, and for some reason, my wolf growled in annoyance.
Why was he even interested in Luciana? She's not that pretty.
And why did it bother me?
I tried to shake off the feeling, telling myself it was just me being concerned about my pack and its dynamics.
But deep down I knew better.
I took a deep breath and typed a response.
"We've got a more serious matter on our hands, leave the charm for someone else."
I hit the send button, my tone was firm but polite. I wouldn't want to get into a childish argument with Jeremy, not now or anytime soon.
I started the car, speeding along the lonely road, my mind blank.
There was a lot to think about, but I needed to focus and avoid any form of distraction. As the strongest of all the Supreme Alphas, distraction is the greatest tool an enemy can use against me.
The ride passed quickly. Upon arrival at the meeting venue, I spotted Jeremy and Torak outside.
"Good to see you Duncan," Jeremy said with a broad smile, waving at me and looking around dramatically. "Where's the damsel?"
Torak rolled his eyes at me, and walked back into the hall.
Some day I'll address the issue of his rudeness, and back to Jeremy, must he find fun in every circumstance?.
"I wanted to be in the mansion when I got your message. Besides, what do you think she is?" I asked, walking to him.
He shot me a glare. "She's my crush."
I raised an eyebrow at his admission.
I thought she was Damon's mate.
"Your crush?" I repeated, holding back my chuckle.
"Yeah, what's it to you?" He asked, his grin faltering for a moment. "I felt drawn to her, the very moment I set eyes on her, she's definitely an Angel, or my Angel."
Wait, what's going on?
My amusement vanished.
"Your Angel?" I echoed, my tone rather skeptical. Did she perhaps jinx everyone into feeling attracted to her?
Jeremy nodded, his eyes gleaming with sincerity. "I know it sounds crazy, but I feel a deep connection to Luciana. And I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make her mine."
Tarok joined us outside, his expression cold. "The meeting is about to start."
He walked back in. Jeremy and I shared a knowing look, before bursting into laughter, although the reason for my enmity with Torak isn't anything close to funny.
"Welcome, Alpha leaders. As we all know, impromptu meetings aren't a thing with werewolves, but the desperation of the matters at hand, warranted this meeting."
The hall went dead in silence, as we awaited Xavier's next words.
"It's no longer news that Prince Axel of the vampires is awake, and his presence in this realm is stirring and will stir a lot of attacks"
Wait what?
Is Axel also tied to the moon and witches?
"In the last few days, we've caught a number of witches in my pack." Torak said, his voice stern.
Is this what the attacks have been about? Why doesn't it seem right?
If all the attacks are aimed at Prince Axel, why are the attacks launched against werewolves? Besides, it's a hundred years, and another thousand years since the last time.
"We've had similar issues in my pack too." Jeremy nodded thoughtfully.
As the discussion progressed, I felt Xavier's gaze on me, and I took my gaze at him, causing our eyes to lock.
"You have anything to say, Supreme Alpha?" He asked with a hint of respect in his voice.
I nodded slowly, and stood up, my voice soft yet firm.
"Alpha's, get your army prepared. The constant attacks lately aren't just about the Vampire prince, they also have something to do with the Emerald Wolf, and the Moon emerald wolf."
The auditorium was noisy, with Alpha's whispering words to one another.
Jeremy nodded in affirmation. After our previous conversation, I couldn't help but read about the Wolves and Vampires and stuff. I'm just not interested in knowing anything about the prophecy yet.
Torak's eyes narrowed. "The emerald wolf? Don't tell me you're so dumb to believe those legends."
He's such an annoying brat, and his dumb question doesn't deserve any answer from me.
"It's not just a legend, Torak. Every legend has a truth in it." Jeremy interfered.
"You don't have to pick a fight with Duncan every time, leave your differences aside, the meeting is for our common good." Xavier cautioned coldly and he nodded.
"The Moon Emerald Wolf holds the key to balancing the supernatural realms," Jeremy explained further.
"Alpha's, we must unite against whatever threatens our peace and stability. Remember to prepare your packs for battle," Xavier said seriously. "We have yet to ascertain where the Moon and Emerald wolves will come from, but they live within us and our packs, and we must keep them safe. Darkness cannot constantly win over light as a result of our negligence."
As he spoke, I noticed a shift in the room's atmosphere, and I'm certain Jeremy noticed to.
I linked my mind with Jeremy, Xavier and Torak's without the knowledge of the other Alphas.
'The witches are here, I can feel their presence.' I said through the link.
'They've either possessed an Alpha, or there's a spy within.' Jeremy replied sternly.
'Jade..' I muttered.
'Let's find out who the person is then..' Xavier said, and I shut my eyes tightly, after getting a glimpse of what I wanted, I stood up and made my way to the back of the auditorium, grabbing an Alpha by the throat.
"He's here." I said and Jeremy joined me.
"Who's he?" I asked the Alpha who was seated beside him.
"Alpha Ryder of Moonlight pack, under the white wolves."
Alpha Ryder struggled, his eyes turning yellow, and holding defiance.
"Witch" Jeremy growled, his claws extending.
Torak appeared, his face cold. "Interrogate him, find out who's behind the possession."
Ryder's voice changed, now deep. "You'll never stop the darkness, my prince will reign supreme."
"Who's he? Who's your prince?" I asked, loosening my grip on his neck.
"You'll never know." He spat and, suddenly, Ryder's body went limp.
"No..." I growled, sensing the witch's presence fading. "We lost our chance."
...
I slept over in Alpha Xavier's pack, and left at daybreak.
I can't stand bumping into Arielle, probably not ready to see her yet, not after what just transpired.
I delayed before leaving, so that by the time I got back to the Mansion she'd have left for work.
But I was wrong. The moment I stepped into the house, I sighted her by the staircase, dressed gorgeously as usual, heading for work.
Our eyes locked for a moment, before I ignored her, climbed the same stairs and went upstairs.
I'm certain she didn't expect that. I heard her softly whispering my name, but I couldn't stand her, so I ignored her.
"She might eventually kill your mate too." My wolf whispered...
