New Start
**Chrissy**
**Five years later**
I stared at my phone, I just couldn't believe it. I was going to start my medical course at Harvard Medical School which means I would be leaving for Boston in the coming weeks. Mom and I had talked about it and she promised to tell Dad about it.
I had been excited all day and I couldn't wait to share your good news with Dayle.
He's been working really hard for months now, and I barely had him to myself.
I cooked us a delicious meal and ordered the best wine there is. I peeked through the window, in the hope that I would see Dayle.
I have tried to reach him countless times, but he has not been answering for a while.
My phone began to chime as I quickly peeked at the screen; it was Ken.
Yeah, fucking great timing.
“Hey man,” I said, pressing the phone to my ear as I sat by the windowsill. The weather had begun to change, and it might just rain soon.
“Girl, I barely have your time these days. If I don't call, you never will. Are you that busy?” he lashed out at me. I could feel the weight of his words. He was right, I had been juggling a whole lot than I bargained for recently. Thanks to Med School.
“I'm so sorry baby, you know I would never leave you hanging. To sum it up, you called at the right time…” I began, and I could sense his impatience.
“Bitch, spill…” he coaxed.
I inhaled and exhaled, “Okay! Ken Salazar, I got in…” I announced.
“You got in—got in as in breaking a safe?” he teased as my eyes rolled.
“Oh boy! I got into Harvard Med school—”
“What the awesome fuck, Chriss! You don't say?!” his voice etched with maximum excitement as I smiled proudly as though he could see.
“Yes, I got in. I got the email this afternoon and I've been trying to reach you but you've been busy I guess…” I explained as I squealed excitedly in the background.
“This calls for a celebration! We need tucking celebrate this milestone. Girl, welcome to a new era of the human anatomy…” he joked as I cracked up, almost cracking my bones and the conversation went on and on. Our resolve was to meet the next day once he landed in New York.
Ken works at his father’s company and that has taken him all around the states, he was scarcely around.
As soon as the call ended, I heard tired footsteps approaching. I suspected that it was Dayle since we were the only ones who occupied the duplex.
I rose, adjusting my see-through robes, all a get-go for the surprise dinner I had planned.
“Hey baby,” his raspy, exhausted voice rang out as my lips curled a little.
We shared a quick but lingering kiss, as my eyes scanned his body.
His necktie was undone, his shirt was untucked and his suit hung over his shoulder.
“What happened?” I asked, as he furthered the bedroom while I followed from behind. “Dayle, is there something wrong?” I asked again and turned to me with a long face.
“My deal with Voltaire Corp didn't pull through. I lost a billion-dollar deal and there you have Dad sitting on my neck. I have a whole lot of presentations to assess before noon tomorrow and...” he paused and sighed. “I swear, I could use some rest right now…” he said and walked into the bathroom.
I didn't want to add to his stress, so I let him be. Telling him about the whole Harvard thing wouldn't work at the moment, I told myself.
…
Some minutes later, I was seated at the table having dinner alone while scrolling TikTok.
At the back of my mind, I wished that Dayle would join me. I just wanted to share the good news with him.
“Eating alone?” I heard Dayle’s voice from behind as I dropped my phone on the table, looking over my shoulder.
“You were… I thought that you had gone to bed?” I subtly asked.
“I would always kiss you goodnight, you know that!” he said as he approached my direction.
He was only wearing beige combat shorts and white Nike socks, nothing more.
That sculpted body to die for, forever lives in my memory rent-free. Dayle and I have been together since Hemsville High. Although we've had our ugly times, we pulled through.
I felt Dayle’s lips on the side of my neck, leaving his imprint on me like an Alpha to his mate. Gently, I felt his fingers trail my face.
“You look breathtaking, Chriss! What’s the occasion—what am I missing?” he asked as he gently spun the chair to face him fully.
He leaned in, his warm breath caressing me.
“I wanted to share something with you, but… You weren't in the best condition. Why try?!” I let out while he gave a half smile.
“For you, I wouldn't want to miss a thing. Work can wait,” he vowed as my brows tilted. “Seriously, tell me about it…” he pressed, surveying the table as he sat next to me, sniffing the meal.
“Are we pregnant?” he asked with a curious gaze, I chuckled just by imagining if that were the case.
“I want that, but definitely not now, Dayle. I'll tell you everything, just dig in…” I said.
I turned back to the table while Dayle began to eat, his mind spiraling over the announcement I had in mind, I could tell.
“Okay, this is too much. Firstly, you dress up in that sexy lingerie and expect me to eat and guess whatever announcement you have. Fucking come on, tell me baby... What's tonight’s deal?” he asked with a sharper gaze.
“I got into Harvard MEDICAL School, jy love…” I finally announced as his brows knitted in shock.
“You mean that?” he asked me.
“Heck, yeah, babe, I mean it…” I added as Dayle squealed excitedly.
“YES!!!” he said, dramatically punching the air. “I always knew that you'd get in…” he added and then we shared a lingering kiss.
“I know right?! A dream come through...”
“Aren’t you the best, smartest girlfriend in the world? You just know how to get things done. It's like you are at the place—you know what you want and… you’ve got your life figured out. I'm really proud of you, Chrissy. You deserve the world,” he said.
His words melted my avalanche a hundred times over. I couldn't utter a word, I just hugged him.
I held his face, rubbing my thumb over his warm lips. “And aren't you the best hardworking boyfriend there is?! I love you, Dayle…”
“I love you more, Amor!” said Dayle as he aided me to rise.
His strong hands wrapped my midriff while we kissed passionately.
“I'm sorry, I could’ve noticed that you had something planned out instead of thinking about a lost deal,” he whispered in my ear.
“It's okay, Dayle, I know how you take work seriously. I understand that you had a bad day…”
“No, Chriss, I don't need you understanding my stupid excuses. I need you to know that I will always be there when you're happy or sad or bored. Okay?” he clarified softly as I nodded.
Before I could say a word, his fingers slid between my thighs as I whimpered, my legs spread.
“Oh God!” My voice shook as he went deeper while my hands wrapped around his nape as best as I could.
“Since you'd be leaving soon, mind coming to work with me tomorrow?” he asked, consuming my face with endless kisses while he worked his fingers down there, causing me to shiver.
“Ye-yeah, of course...” My breathing was heavy as he made ferocious circles on my clit while he grunted.
“You’re just the right kind, never satisfied with you, Chrissy!” Dayle’s voice stuck in my head like a melody, turning his bad day into my best night of intense pleasure.
On the other hand, his words lingered in the back of my mind. He said that I have got my life figured out, do I really?
If I'm gone, will he wait for me? We've never been apart before. What will happen to this new phase in our lives?
