Should Egan Stay?

**Dayle**

I hurried downstairs as soon as I took a shower and got dressed for work.
Chrissy left about fifteen minutes ago, and I bet she must have whipped up something to eat. She does that a lot, and I'm thankful for that.

When I descended the stairs, I saw Mom and the twins sitting in the living room, eating from a bowl of snacks.
“Is that Jessie and Glen?!” I teased calling out as they veered to me almost instantly.
They sprinted over to me as I lifted and embraced them in both arms, showering them kisses.
They started to talk about the waterpark that Chrissy promised they'd visit much later in the day.
“Are you coming with us, Dayle?” Jessie asked as soon as I gently put down. She pursed her lips awaiting my reply while I swiftly scratched my neck.
  “Dayle’s got lots of work—”
“You only work. Is that what adults know how to do best?! Ugh!” Glen’s eyes rolled with a slight irritation.
I smiled, “This work has come to find you, I propose. When you're a lot older, you'll understand better, Glen!” I simply said but he didn't give a fuck as always.
We headed to the living room.

By then, Mom was invested in her cellphone, typing away.
I leaned towards her and dropped a kiss on her cheek.
“Good morning, daddy’s hottie!” I teased like I always do most times we meet once in a while.
She let out a smile that depicted contentment.
“Nah, I thought that you didn't wanna talk to me because of Amber,” she said as I scoffed.

Well, I least expected that.

“Jeez, Mom, that had nothing to do with you. It's between me and Dad,” I snapped as she nodded.
“Well, I have to leave the kids here for the day. They wanted to visit so bad since y'all wouldn't at least show up even if we are stuck in the same city! What the hell, Dayle!” she said, her voice laced with disappointment.

Although she looked very breathtaking in the leather pants and jacket and boots that she was wearing, she looked overtly stressed.
“Are you really okay?” I asked, sitting on the arm of the couch as she shook her head lightly and sighed.
“It's nothing I can't handle baby, thanks for asking…” she snapped.

Suddenly, Egan and Chrissy stepped out of the kitchen both giggling, especially Chrissy.
“Now he lives here?” Mom asked me under her breath plastering a smile.
“Just visiting,” I snapped too. I patted her arm gently as Chrissy and I walked up to each other and shared a kiss.
I didn't want to get things up in my head, but maybe Egan should leave, right?

I asked myself. Mom rose to leave as soon as her phone buzzed.
“I have to go now! I have to meet with your father, you guys!”  she announced. The tears rushed to her, embracing her tightly as if they wouldn't let go.
“Chrissy? See me off! Now!” Mom ordered and that was alarming to Chrissy and me.

Did Mom want to talk about Egan? God, this is love-threatening if there's any word like that.

When they left, the twins focused on the sitcom showing on the screen.
“Bro? Shouldn't you be out for work?” Egan asked casually, while he typed away on his cell phone.
“Would leave soon.” I snapped. “Not sure, but Steve might stop by the office much later. Wanna come?” I asked.
“Wanna come?” he reiterated and scoffed with a smirk like a Qute Demon. “I'm gonna be there, dude. We agreed last night. Are you okay?” Egan asked with concern.
“Ye-yeah,” I snapped, forcing a smile. “Never mind! Just thought that… look dude, never mind. Gotta go! See you soon, man!” We exchanged our customized handshake as I headed off.

Well, I was out to screw things up, beating myself over something that wasn't a problem at all. I mean, it just hit me that Egan was her ex-boyfriend back in high school and now he's living under our roof as my guest. Fuck, make it make sense.

I have to send away, in a good way. The thing is, he's got family issues about his disappearance and they have no idea that he's in town. I don't want to send my best friend away especially now that he needs me, what the fucking fuck am I supposed to do now? Send him away or let him stay knowing fully that he was Chrissy’s boyfriend?

I asked myself as I headed to my car in the driveway.
On the other hand, I saw Chrissy and Mom in a deep conversation. I quickly texted Chrissy;

‘*Easy on her. Not sure she's very okay. Call me soon, love you so much, baby!’*

I hit send as I entered the car. She swiftly looked in my direction, shooting me a soft smile before looking away, back to Mom.

I sped away, trying to shut out the thought of Chrissy going back to Egan.
Of course she wouldn't, I reminded myself.

Time went by. Peeking at my wristwatch, it was past 6 PM and the deal with Amber’s firm was sealed. According to her P.A., she said that Amber might drop by much later. Deep down, I prayed that she wouldn't set foot into the company but who the hell was I kidding?

I continued scrolling through my MacBook, rereading the proposal before me for the umpteenth time.
I just couldn't focus anymore. Chrissy would be left alone with Egan. He's a sneaky devil as always and what if something goes down?

Fuck me!

I pushed the laptop away from me angrily as I rubbed my temples, brutally frustrated over the thought of it.
I grabbed my phone dialing Chrissy but she wouldn't answer and why?

I searched for Ken’s number, whether or not it was appropriate at that moment.
In less than five seconds, it connected.
“Hey man! I'm sorry I just had to call!” I explained.
“What’s up, Dayle? Anything the matter? You sound jumpy,” he pointed out.
“Yeah! Have you- fuck,” I sighed. “Have you spoken to Chrissy today?” I asked.
He scoffed, “Yeah, why?” I could sense his suspicion.
“Oh yeah? When? She's not taking my calls and no, we are not arguing or anything like that,” I stated, trying to keep calm.
“Chill out, man, we spoke in the morning and she's got a date with the twins. Didn't you know?” Ken pointed out again as I sighed somewhat relieved. “Look, I bet she's okay! Don't panic, it is Chriss. She's got everything under control,” he added.
“Okay, Ken! Thanks. I'll keep trying. Bye!” I hung up.
I rose, walking to the view, blowing out some air to clear my darn thoughts.
“Nothing is wrong, dude! Chill!” I said under my breath as I rolled up my sleeves, ruffling my hair.

The door gently opened as I looked over my shoulder, and it was Steve. Badass Stevie.
A smile rested on my lips but after I remembered that Egan should be here as well, my smile faded.
“Ain’t happy to see me? Such an asshole!” Steve snapped teasingly as we exchanged handshakes and a swift hug.
“Where’s E?” Steve asked, walking to the wine compartment to pour us some whiskey.
“Was gonna ask you,” I snapped, sitting on the couch.
  “Ask me?” Steve repeated.

What’s with everyone repeating every shit I say?

“Last I checked, you lived under your roof,” Steve snapped, walking over to me.
“And that brings us to my immediate problem, man.” I let out angrily as Steve froze with the bottle and glasses in his hands.
“Okay. Chill.” Steve said with a skeptical gaze before sitting to pour the potent content into our glasses. “What's the actual problem now? That's so ‘immediate’?” he airquoted.
“I'm just fucked in the head, Steve!” I began as I leaned back and sighed. “Just rethinking shit over and over. I don't know what to call it, I guess it's jealousy, insecurity, or it's gotta be fucking jealousy man. I saw the way they laughed, it rang volumes that Mom had to ask if Egan was living with us now. Bro, I felt dumb to let him stay in the first place,” I paused and gulped a drink.

I felt the pang in my chest. Was I doing to right or wrong thing just thinking about it? I wondered.
Steve gulped and spoke up.
“Bro, I don't think your Mrs. Lena meant anything. Perhaps she was only asking,” he pointed out.
“Exactly, I thought so too but it made me realize something. Egan was Chrissy’s boyfriend in the past and they had feelings for each other, I knew that. But… what if it gets ignited or something starts to happen while I'm being positive like a dumbass in the background? Should I ask Egan to leave or stay?” I asked Steve, my frustration and desperation spilling over.

Talk about the devil, Egan walked in almost hurriedly.
“Sorry guys, I didn't mean to take too long…” said Egan as he tossed his key on the desk staring at us suspiciously.
“Dayle, give it three days to find out if he is worth staying or leaving. He's our best friend, he won't betray you knowing fully that you love her dearly!” Steve said under his breath but of course, Egan wasn't dumb enough to pick a thing or two.
“Guys, I'm right here! Did something go wrong?” Egan innocently asked as he grabbed the bottle of whiskey and gulped it down directly.

Should I tell him?
