Chapter 56

Merigold
Someone is yelling at me. " Squeeze my hand, Snow." Snow? No one at the club knows my nickname. " Come on Snow. I know you can do it. Squeeze my hand." I know that voice. But I can't think right now. He wants me to squeeze his hand. I focus on that. I tightened my grip. I can feel my hand move. I moved my hand finally. Yes!
" That's it, Snow. Do it again." Wow, someone is excited. I do as he asks. His voice became clearer. " Yes. That's good Snow." Tony? Why would Tony be here? Where the fuck is here anyway. " Squeeze your other hand." Alaric? I squeeze. I hear excited yells. " Snow we need you to open your eyes now." I try but it hurts. I grunt in pain. There is a bright light. " I know it hurts but I need you to open your eyes." I try again but can only open them a little bit.
" That's good Snow. Do it again." I can't make out anything, my vision is blurry and I don't have my eyes open much. I hear a door open " Call Viper and Ryans now." I'm able to move my arm a little bit and I rest it on my stomach. " They are still there Snow. Perfectly safe." That is Tony's voice. " D doc? My throat is scratchy and sore. It comes out as crackling whispers.
" Here. Drink this." and someone puts a straw in my mouth. I gulp the ice water. " Easy." " Huntsman?" " Yea. we're here Snow." Mac? Mac's here. But where is here? " Tinker?" I still can't do more than a whisper. I try to open my eyes more. I want to see them. " Bright." They turn down the lights and I can open my eyes more. " Jax. Jace." " They are good. They miss you. But we have been spoiling them rotten. Lots of sugar. Staying past bedtime. Not eating their veggies. Watching horror movies." Alaric says with a laugh. I groan.
Just then the door burst open. " What's wrong? What's going on?" Viper. He seems to be in a panic. " Look," Tony tells him. " Viper." He whips so fast it is like a blur or maybe it is my eyes messing with me. Not really sure. " She's awake!" I want to laugh. " Nope. Still sleeping." I say. Alaric, Mac, and Tony laugh. " I see you are still a smart ass." Viper says. " Alright. Let me check over my patient. Everyone out." Doc Ryans says.

Axel
We are all crowded around Merigold's room after we saw Tony, Mac, and Alaric run in. Then Viper and Doc Ryans came running in shortly after. We are just waiting for news. I'm praying it isn't bad. I keep listening to the monitors or talking to give me a clue as to what is going on.
I'm not sure how long we stand there when the door finally opens and everyone other than the doc comes out. Viper looks around at our expectant faces and takes a deep breath. " She's awake and being her usual smartass self." The crowd cheers like we just won a big game. It feels like we have. I lean against the wall to hold myself up as I sag in relief. " When can we see her?" Rowdy asks. Tank glares at him. " The doc is checking her out now. We will just have to see what he says. For now, let's get everyone to clear out of the hall."
I want to hear what the doc says but I need a minute. I walk out of the clubhouse and go to the very end of the building where I won’t be seen. I lean against the wall and slide down in a crouch. I wrap my hands around the back of my neck and let a few silent tears fall. Yea, I'm crying, you got a problem with that. See how you react when someone you love wakes up after three excruciating long days. When there was a possibility they would wake up at all. See how you feel when you find out you can finally look in your love's eyes again. You are going to see their smile.
I'm not full-on bawling but yea I'm shedding a few tears. Merigold's awake. She is going to be ok. Now we are going to help her heal. And I'm going to show her how much I love her. I'm going to convince her to take us back. We didn't really do anything wrong but that's not what matters now. Nothing else in this world matters but Merigold and the twins.
Rowdy taps me on the shoulder " I figured you might need this." and hands me a beer. " Thanks. But what I really need is to talk to Merigold." " I hear you. But let's see what the doc says first. We don't want to take a chance of upsetting her." I nod and get up, wiping away my tears. " Let's get in there so we don't miss the doc."
Just as we get in, Doc comes out. " Merigold is very much awake. Her vitals are good. She is still in a lot of pain and will be for a while. She has a lot of healing to do. She needs as much rest as possible." " Can we see her?" Tank asks. It is not surprising he is asking considering how close he is to Merigold. " Keep the visits short and no more than two people. I don't want her to overdo it. I don’t want her moving around too much for the next few days. After that I will check her and see her walking around a little at a time. She did ask for someone to bring her ice water. The colder the better she said."
"What about eating?" Viper asks. " For a few days just soft foods to help her body adjust. After that, she can have anything to eat. Right now she can drink anything she wants." " I'm bringing her a beer then." Tank laughs. "NO!" Doc, Tony, Mac, Alaric, and Viper yell at the same time. That's odd. And I'm not the only one that thinks that. " Alcohol isn't good for her right now," Doc says. I get that but for all of them to shout. Weird.
Rowdy pulls me aside " We need to get in there with Merigold." I look over and see Viper go to her room. " We will brother. As much as I want to rush in there right now. We are going to let Viper and Alaric's crew go first. And Jax and Jace need to see their mom awake. They are her family and we are going to give them some time. As much as I want to charge in there, we can’t. It's the right thing to do. And when we get our time we are going to make sure we have her to ourselves. As much as I hate to say it, we need to be patient." “ I hate you right now. You know that right?” I know he isn't happy about it but he knows I'm right.
