Chapter 59
Merigold
After I had a light lunch Viper came to see me. I know he is going to ask me about my pregnancy. I was hoping I could have put it off for longer but I should have known Viper wasn’t going to leave it alone. I’m truly surprised Alaric or Mac haven’t been in here demanding answers. Viper sits down beside bed and grabs my hand. “ So you ready to tell me about it.” he says pointing to my stomach. The truth. No I’m not ready but I don’t think he is going to take that for an answer. He says " Merigold, I didn't know you were seeing someone. And I feel like a shit brother that you couldn't come to me and tell me. Or introduce me to the guy." He is killing me. I breathe deep and give him an answer as close to the truth as possible. " I didn't tell you because it was a fling and it was over before I found out. You are an incredible brother and I love you." I squeeze his hand.
" How far along are you?" he asks. " A little over twelve weeks. And we were careful. I promise. I don't want you to think I'm irresponsible." I pleaded with him. " I don't think that of you. You want to tell me who the father is?" " No. Like I said it was nothing." I feel tears run down my cheek. I wipe it away quickly so he doesn't see. " Are you going to tell the father?" " I don't think I am. They aren't exactly father material." Now the tears are non-stop.
Viper lifts my head and wipes the tears " It wasn't a fling for you was it?" I shake my head no because I'm afraid to speak. No. To me, it was more. I cared for them. I loved them. I wipe a tear " No. I was stupid and let myself think it was more." " Want me to kick his ass for dumping you?" I laugh. " No. You can't do that because I'm not telling who it is. I wasn’t really dumped either. It wasn’t a relationship. It was nothing. They, I mean he just went to something easier and fewer clothes."
Viper looks me dead in the eye. His expression is scaring me. I can almost see him shaking. " Merigold, I'm going to ask this and I want an honest answer. Was it one of the brothers?" Oh, God. What did I say? Why would he go to that conclusion?
