Magic and lies

"Are you sure about this?" I ask biting my thumbnail in anxiety, stressing over the fact that we were hiding in Alejandro's room where he was laid on the floor with a circle of salt around him, Craig had him bound in ropes. there was complete darkness in the room except for the twenty-five candles he had lit for his spell, and by the looks of it, this was black magic which is anything but good.

Craig looked at me with an annoyed expression and ignored me, he sat outside the circle where Alejandro's head was directly in front of him. he then pulled out a grimoire and held it in, and the other hand was holding a different kind of candle, every other candle in the room was your regular store-bought candle this the one he held was used, old and it was black.

Josh was guarding the door making sure nobody could enter, the only thing that bugged me was Sorin, Craig warned me not to involve his mate in this which was kind of absurd because he is Alejandro's best friend but I decided it was better to agree with him since the life of my soulmate was literally in his hand. and Sorin wouldn't have agreed to help us anyway.

I keep biting my thumbnail as I keep watching him perform the binding spell, he did tell me that there would be certain things that would be a little extreme but the crawling feeling in my guts says overwise.

Standing in the corner of the room wasn't helping my nervousness and anxiety so I lean on the wall behind me and slowly slide down. suddenly the temperature inside the room dropped as Craig's voice got deeper and the smell of the scented candle spread through the room like wildfire.

He chanted certain Greek words throwing his head back, his white-blonde hair flew behind him. he closed his eyes mumbling the same sentence again and again then unexpectedly he snapped his eyes open, and his eyes were completely white, he looked like he was in a trace.

As soon as Craig's eyes turned white, Alejandro's body lifted in the air not completely but just his upper body to his waist. I shot up from my place, my first instinct was to grab my mate and run far away from here after beating the shit out of Craig but with no other choice left, I had to hold myself back from doing something absurd and risky.

Alejandro kept groaning in pain and was trying to rid the ropes off of him but couldn't, I fist my hand and take deep breaths, Craig started chanting loudly, and with one last scream, Alejandro fell back on the floor. out of nowhere, the windows of Alejandro's room were blasted open by a strong wind which blew off all the candles in the room except the one in Craig's hand.

Craig snapped out of it and started at the small circle he crested using a different kind of salt mixed with Alejandro's blood, a few drops of his blood on the floor made me want to murder people but I held back.

A few seconds later Craig snapped his fingers staring intensely at the small circle beside Alejandro.

"You better have a good reason to summon me," A female voice echoed in the silent room in the death of the night. Craig and I jumped in fright not finding the witch in the circle but near the window, she picked at her nails looking bored out of her mind.

she was the same witch that we found inside the barrier, she looked much healthy than the last time we saw her

"We do, " Craig said the window closed shut with the snap of his finger, she looked at him amused with the little trick.

"Fine, you have my attention, tell me what is it that you want from me?" she asked looking around the room with interest, she paused in her steps when she noticed the unconscious Alejandro on the floor inside a salted circle. "Hmm, so this is how you found me,"

I couldn't hold myself back from emerging from the side of the room " Tell us what did you do to him? " I asked desperately, she glanced at me and sized me up

"You must be the Mate, " was the only thing she said before passing by me and entering the circle with ease. Craig stood up from his place and walked beside me, the both of us watched the witch curiously.

"hmm... He is still alive? I wonder how?" her heartless comment had me walking towards her but Craig held me back. she glanced at me and smirked

I ripped my arm out of Craig's hold and glared at her I looked at the floor behind her and found the little circle Craig had created for her, it had the power to rid her of her power as long as she stood in it, I take a step towards her and pushed her into the circle catching her off guard, her gaze swept the floor and the change in her expression said that she was indeed trapped.

"Just tell us what did you do to him? tell me how you are controlling him?" I add a little growl at the end.

She tilts her head confused "I think you are a highly mistaken child, I found him in the worst condition than this, all I did was use his power to help break the barrier but it was not enough, on the verge of dying he could only help me so much, it's a wonder he is still alive though, not many people survive after losing so much power," her confession was somewhat twisted and didn't make much sense.

She looked at Alejandro and closed her eyes then opened them right back with a shocked expression, "He is in a much worst condition than he was before if you want to save him do it now because he is losing time," her warning rang in my head like a warning bell.

Craig took a step forward and spoke with her for the first time. " All we want to know is how to save him, just tell us that and you are free to go," she looked at him curiously.

"You are the one that broke the thousand-year-old barrier, and is powerful enough to undo the spell, so tell me why aren't you doing that instead of interrogating me," My head snapped in Craig's direction

He grits his teeth as he spoke "To undo the sell I need to know what spell was put on him in the first place," he argued, he snapped his fingers, and the small circle kit was on fire and only that part burned deeply creating smoke that suffocates her.

She held her throat coughing and wheezing for breath, she made direct eye contact with him and spoke with a deadly serious voice "You don't know what you did? the real reason he is suffering right now is not me, it's you, "as soon as she said that she whispered a spell and disappeared.

I couldn't help myself any longer and grabbed Craig's throat and slammed him on the wall, growling in his face furiously " What kind of a sick game are you playing with us? why would you do something like that to your friend?" The emotions I had been hiding within me were bursting out in the form of anger.

He held my hand that choked him, I don't know how he did it but he twisted my hand and got free from my hold. He used his magic to glue my body on the wall opposite to his and smirked while massaging his sore neck.

"I didn't know that bitch would figure it out so easily, for someone who considers themselves as the higher species you had no idea you were playing in the palm of my hand," he laughed menacingly.

I couldn't believe what was transpiring in front of me, the person I considered a friend turned out to be my worst nightmare.

A knock came from the door and I opened my mouth to scream but couldn't move my lips, I stared at Craig with shock, he placed his finger on his lips and shushed me.

"Guys is everything ok in there?" Josh's was like angels singing, my rescue was so close but so far as well. I tried our mind link as well but just like before during our fight with Claudius, the mind link was the first thing, Craig blocked with a spell again.

"Yes, everything is going as planned, I will teleport all of us out of here, " With that, he snapped his fingers, and everything went dark.

my last thought was 'What will happen to us now? will I ever be able to see my family, friends, and most importantly Alejandro again?'
