Wake Up

Zorah was having the best dream of her life. In her dream, she and Icaro were finally consummating their marriage, and he was being as inventive in her fantasies as he was in the reality, but he was going further than ever before.

However, in her dream, there was an annoying fly which kept buzzing along her nose and ears and it was distracting, and she couldn’t focus on the things Icaro was doing to her. She batted it away. It came back. She swatted furiously and in doing so Icaro dissipated from her dream. A frustrated moan left her lips, and she tried to reach to pull him back.

A muffled hiss as she yanked at her pillow and slowly surfaced from her sleep, but the buzzing insect was still hovering over her face, and she batted it away. Zorah froze when her hand connected with something solid. Her eyes opened in a panic, terror at someone being near her while she partook in sexy dreams of her husband making her flush a deep red.

Keturah lay propped up on one elbow looking down at her, her finger hovering over Zorah’s face. A giant grin was on the other woman’s face, and she blinked rapidly, “what were you dreaming of calling out my cousin’s name?”

“Why are you in here?” Zorah smacked her hand away from her face. “This is my room.”

“I can’t sleep. The jet lag is giving me insomnia. I thought I’d see if you were awake.”

“I was clearly sleeping!”

“Back home it’s after eight in the morning. Your weird uncle came into my room earlier with a bag of clothes he said his sister went and got for me.”

“She’s a nurse. She’s nice. I met her for a few minutes, but she apparently is working at the local hospital again doing twelve-hour shifts.” Zorah tugged her blankets up higher aware Keturah was still smirking at her.

“I didn’t meet her but apparently, she knew my sizes because I now have a full wardrobe of everything from underwear to swimwear to casual wear. There is even an evening gown, Zorah. Who are these people?”

“I don’t know much about Orlando, but I know lots about Chester and Shay now. They’re my family.” She frowned, “Shay is actually Ippocrate’s biological sister, and her mother is Ippocrate’s biological mother. She gave him up for adoption when she was a teenager.”

“No way.”

“Yes.”

“How do you feel about all of this?” Keturah tucked her hands under her cheek as she lowered onto the pillow and faced Zorah. “Being kidnapped by your father and all.”

“The kidnapping thing, I wasn’t keen on, but I understand why they did it.”

“Do you really miss Icaro or were you simply saying it at dinner last night?”

“Why would I make such a thing up?” she questioned the woman curiously.

Keturah gave a shrug, “maybe you don’t trust the Lucchesi family but perhaps you trust this family even less. Better the devil you know?”

“Not in the least,” she refuted Keturah’s hypothesis with pursed lips. “First, I do trust Chester and by default, the rest of the people in this house. He has the evidence to back up the information he shared with me, and he’s been very forthright. Orlando, despite drugging me, made sure I had a full medical team with me to make sure I suffered no ill-effects, treated me respectfully and kindly and has made it abundantly clear he considers me his niece. Dane and Shay have also been really kind to me. Dane risked his life to get information on Ippocrate by sneaking into his bunker.”

“Orlando seems like a dick.”

“Orlando likes you.” Zorah retorted dryly.

“I can tell,” Keturah smiled back, “he didn’t ask his sister to bring me clothes because he doesn’t like me, and he walked me to my room last night under the guise of making sure I didn’t try to escape.”

“Do you know what he does for a living, Keturah?”

“He runs a security firm. They offer security to rich people and government officials.”

“He also runs missions to rescue trafficked women. The reason my day was a day late coming back to America and missed me was because Orlando and Dane were on a mission to save someone and needed the jet.”

Keturah’s eyes widened and she looked away clearing her throat, “really?”

“Yes. My father told me Orlando’s cousin was kidnapped when he was a little boy right from the house where he was staying when visiting with his parents. She was trafficked. All of his life he searched for her. Eventually he found out she took her own life when she was barely nineteen. He has devoted his life to helping women in similar situations. He, my dad, and Dane all are part of a mercenary group who do this kind of work. When they found out I was in an arranged marriage, they immediately thought I was being held against my will and came to find me.”

“Do you think they will actually let you go back to Icaro?”

“My father has given me his word. He said he would, Keturah.”

“I wish I believed him the way you do.” Keturah grimaced, “aren’t you worried he’s lying?”

“No. My father loves me, and I believe it. He wants me to be happy. He said he’ll bring me back to Icaro when the danger has passed, and I know he will.”

“What if he deems the danger never passes?”

“I don’t foresee this happening,” Zorah answered and sighed. “Besides, Icaro will come for me.”

“He doesn’t know where you are.” Keturah argued.

Zorah gave a laugh. “Keturah, do you think it would take him very long to find me? He stopped searching because we let him know I was safe but there is nothing anyone could tell me which would make me believe Icaro Lucchesi wouldn’t keep searching for me until the world burned. He loves me. He loves me so much being away from him is causing him to be angry and violent and I feel badly for anyone who is standing in the way of us being together. Right now, the people in his path are people who intended to steal me away to put me in a bunker to be made Ippocrate Giannone’s sex slave. He’s going to deal with them. He’s going to hurt them. Then he’s going to come for me and there is nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise.”

“You really believe this?”

“As strong as my faith is in God, my faith is in Icaro. He will come for me. Though, I don’t think it will be necessary. I believe Chester when he said he would deliver me straight to my husband.”

“I hope you’re right.” Keturah sighed.

“I know I am.”
