17: Not Goodbye

Jonah was sitting with his mother it was one day before the ball. She layed on her bed and he sat next to her. And they had wanted to make sure that everything turned out perfectly. “All the preparations are done it’s almost time for the ball.”

“I’m so proud of you.” Emma gushed she was proud of the man her son had become she was proud of what he was doing for her. And what she knew he was going to do in the future.

“I wish you didn’t have to go.” Jonah whined he didn’t care how old he got his mother would always be his mother. And he didn’t want her to die he wanted her to see him into the future.

“It’s time.” Emma confessed she knew she had lived the life she was meant to. She had saved her kingdom she had saved her goddaughter and now it was time for them to do what they were meant to. Save the world.

Jonah nodded he kenw this had always been long since coming but it didn’t make it any easier for him. “I know but i’m just no ready for you to go.”

“I know baby but i am so proud of the man you have become you are going to do our kingdom proud. When you meet her everything will change.” Emma promised she couldn’t wait for her son to meet his other half.

“I know.” Jonah said he was yet to let his mom in on the girl he had met at the market. He knew his dad had been right he couldn’t ruin this for her.

“You won’t understand until you finally meet her what i mean.” Emma said. She knew right now to him it was only talked but when he met her he wouldn’t be able to simply forget her.

“I know mom.” Jonah smiled he had heard it many times about her goddaughter and what she would be like. And if he didn’t know better he was sure his mother was trying to get them together. Even thought she didn’t even know who she was.

Emma laughed slightly she knew her son was tired of hearing it but she was simply preparing him for what was to come. They would save the world and save each other. “And things will change you two will make our kingdom proud and eventually when i go you know what is going to follow.”

“The barrier is going to come down.” Jonah answered with a nod. He knew he was going to need to be warry of that he knew when it came down Lucinda was going to be out to get him.

Emma sighed she hated to be the bearer of bad news but she needed him to know how serious this was going to be. How much danger the two of them were really going to be in. She knew what her old best friend was capable of and she refused to let them fall victim to it. “Yeah and i need you to know Lucinda is evil she will try to manipulate the two of you. She will try and kill you two. And she will make you feel like everyone is in the wrong and that is not true. She is nothing but power hungry and she wants everyone to bow down to her.”

“I won’t let her win mom.” Jonah promised she was going to try and his kingdom after he had just lost his mother. She wasn’t winning that was a promise.

Emma nodded she was proud of him she knew he would do good that they would do good. They would do something she had never managed taking Lucinda down. “I know you won’t i know you will do better than all of us have.”

“I will do you proud im going to make sure she doesn’t succeed in her takeover when i meet her we’ll work together to get this done.” Jonah promised he would work with the princess when he found her and hopefully when she eventually needed to take over her throne she would be able.

“You are the best thing that ever happened to me.” Emma smiled taking her sons hand she had always thought she had done the wrong thing by tying her life to the barrier but now she knew that she hadn’t. “There are days like this when i don’t regret my decision of putting my life on the line to keep you guys safe.”

“We’ll be safe i’ll make sure of it.” Jonah would work with her he would make sure she was ok and that she survived through this. That they survived through this.

“You are going to make such a good king.” Emma assured she knew her son was going to do right by the kingdom that he would make sure that everyone got treated fairly even when the barrier came down she was sure of it.

Ryan walked into the room he was happy his son was getting to spend time with his mother. But he also knew if they wanted her to make it to his wedding then that meant she needed to be getting her rest. “Jonah your mother needs to rest.”

“I’m fine.” Emma argued she kenw that she was going to be ok.

“Emma you need to rest.” Ryan protested he didn’t care if she was ok he needed her to be alright he knew that she had to make it to this point.

Jonah sighed. He knew his dad was right his mom was sick and she needed all the rest she could get. Especially if she wanted to get the chance to meet her goddaughter.“It’s fine mom dad is right you do need to rest we need to make sure you are healthy enough to see her when we find her. And to see me get married.”

“Fine.” Emma sighed. She hated that the two o them were trying to double team her right now. But she knew they were right and that she had to rest i she wanted to see her goddaughter and see him married.

“Thank you.” Ryan smiled shaking his head hating how stubborn his wife was being right now.

“Mom i love you.” Jonah kissed his mom on his forehead he loved her and he simply wanted her to make it to her dying wish.

“I love you to Jonah.” Emma said.

He got up walking out he knew he needed to let his parents have this moment.

“What happened?” Emma asked she could tell in talking to her son there was something going on that he did not want her to be aware of it.

“What are you talking about?” Ryan asked taking his son’s place in the chair next to her. He had been hesitant to let her in on what was going on lately.

Emma sighed she didn’t like that they were hiding things from her when she wasn’t doing well. As if she wasn’t going to notice a change in her own flesh and blood. “I know my son Ryan something happened he’s changed within the last few days.”

Ryan sighed he knew in having the conversation with his son about the girl he had met and how he couldn’t do it. How he needed to do this for his mother. “It is nothing you need to worry about.”

“Ryan!” Emma warned she was not in the mood for lies at this time.

“We promise it is nothing.” Ryan assured.

“Ryan do not lie to me right now.” Emma scolded she needed to make sure her message was loud and clear. She wanted to know what was going on.

“Where is the lie?” Ryan asked he didn’t consider it as lying to his wife simply withholding information that he knew would upset her.

“Ryan what happened?” Emma asked she needed to know.

“Jonah went out and he met someone. He said that he was drawn to her and wanted to cancel about this but i talked him out of this.” Ryan admitted he knew they had to see this through whatever it took.

Emma sighed she didn’t want to deprive her son of love. She knew there was a chance the prophecy could have been mistaken but she hadn’t wanted to think of it. “Ryan if-”

“No we’re doing this and we are doing this right.” Ryan proclaimed he knew she had waited to long for this to try and change things now.

“Thank you.” Emma smiled lightly she was conflicted what she wanted or her sons happiness.

“You have waited years for this nothing and it is finally upon us.” Ryan said.

“Yeah it is i need you to know how much i love you and i’m thankful for what you’ve done for me.”

“This is not goodbye Emma.”

“Ryan we both know i am not going to be here much longer.”

“I refuse to say goodbye now.”
