23: Meeting her godmother

Layla was led to the throne room where she was told to wait. She stood waiting for someone to come in frantically fiddling her fingers. She knew they said that she had been picked and well she had knew this was going to happen for two days but that didn’t make it less nervewracking.

After a few more moments Queen Emma and King Ryan walked in Ryan was helping to support her. But Emma stopped in her tracks making him stop too. Emma had known the prophecy was right and now she was seeing it for herself.“Layla.”

Layla looked at them trying to get her bearings together. “Hello your-”

Emma cut her off she did not need Layla to bow to her it was unfair given who she was. “There is no need Layla after all your royalty just the same.”

“I don't know what you are talking about,” Layla admitted. She wasn’t royalty she was simply a girl rom the Land Of the Unknown who was trapped here in Greenville with a secret mission.

“Right have a seat.” Emma said.

Layla went and sat down on the nearby chair. Ryan guided Emma over grabbing a chair for her to sit in. Knowing the two were going to need to have a long-awaited talk.

“Whats going on?” Layla asked finally.

Emma smiled she knew she was going to have to start at the beginning with how every one of them met. But right now she wanted to revel in the fact that she was finally meeting her goddaughter. “You have your father's eyes I'm guessing they flare when you are mad. I knew your parents well they were my best friends.”

“My parents?” Layla asked her breath catching. She knew she looked nothing like Liana and Henry so it only meant one thing. Emma was referring to her actual parents.

Emma nodded happy she was the one who was going to get to tell her the truth of what really happen. Not only taking the burden off her son but also sharing it with her goddaughter. “Let me tell you a story 20 years ago when the barrier was open. The two worlds weren't at peace yet but they were civil. Two young witches wanted to have some fun. Back then The Land of the Unknown was divided in half. The Fire Nation and the Ice Kingdom. Now those two witches lived on opposite sides of the border of fire and ice. One day the two decided to bring their other best friend the reigning prince of the Fire Nation and the reigning princess of the Ice Kingdom. The witch was in love with her best friend she hoped he would choose her as his next queen. That chance ended when he met the ice princess. Love at first sight they were going to unite the kingdoms. Cameron and Xavier were the pure definition of soulmates. They were two of my best friends.”

“They were my parents.” Layla guessed. She knew she had fire and ice magic which she had always kind of thought was weird. But never thought to much else on it more than hiding it from the world.

“Yes they are.” Emma nodded she remembered everything she remembered having to make the though decision choosing love. “They got married and then Lucinda came up with the great idea of invading Greenville. But she never counted on her best friend falling in love with one from this world.”

“And that changed everything.” Layla said.

Emma nodded sadly. She had known her best friend was going to far and couldn’t stand to help anymore so she did what she had to do and protected Greenville. “Yeah it did. I went rogue and Lucinda hated it. We were supposed to take over together but i fell in love with Ryan and got pregnant with our son. Then Cameron found out she was pregnant they were about to unite the kingdoms. And Lucinda decided she wanted to take over the two kingdoms and i had to put a stop to it. I told Cameron she needed to send you threw Lucinda had taken over the kingdoms and put a kill order on you and i knew we needed to act fast. So she sent you through and the barrier closed and Lucinda has been plotting for years of what she would do when it was opened.”

“What did you do?” Layla asked.

Emma sighed sadly even though it meant her death she refused to regret it. “I linked my life to the barrier. When i die in a few days it will crumble and Lucinda will come through.”

Layla nodded she understood why Emma looked so sick it was because she was. Because keeping the barrier up was draining her life. “Because when you cease to be alive neither will the barrier..”

“Exactly.” Emma said.

“I’m not sure what i am supposed to do.” Layla said honestly and it was true. She wasn’t sure what she was gonna do.

“It’ll come to you.” Emma said. She knew Layla would get there she would seem like a natural when it mattered the most.

Emma knew this was the moment she was waiting for to meet her goddaughter. She was haopy she made it to this. “Your mother was my best friend she made me your godmother.”

“You are my godmom?” Layla asked she had never had a godmother this was kind of crazy to her all of this.

“Yeah i am.” Emma nodded.

“Lucinda’s after me.” Layla said with a hint of fear in her voice. She was scared this was all seeming to be to much at once.

“And me?”

She turned to see Jonah walking in. She had never pieced together that there was achance he would be the prince. “Your-” She paused not even sure what to say next.

Emma smiled to her son she was happy he had chosen Layla to be his wife. “I believe you met my son Jonah.”

“Yeah i have.” Layla nodded.

Emma knew now that he was here she could continue and tell Layla the rest. “You two are capable of stopping her and taking back control and she can’t stand the idea of that.”

Ryan nodded in agreement he was with his wife on this one a hundred percent. “We know this is a lot to throw on you suddenly but trust us when we tell you that we wish you guys didn’t have to do this.”

“I’m so confused.” Layla had thought she was simpy walking into a ball where she would be picked. She knew tehy did say she had to stop Lucinda but she had never thought it would be this soon.

Emma sighed she knew it was time to come clean on why they had the ball to begin with. She deserved to know they were simply looking for her the entire time. That they had done it this way to avoid panic. “The ball was a ruse if we stated that we were looking specifically for you it wouldn’t have gone the way we wanted it to. Not only would it have put fear into the citizens but you in danger and that was the last thing i wanted to happen.”

“Have you heard the prophecy.” Ryan asked he knew that was the next important thing letting her know what had been set in stone.

Layla nodded slightly she knew the prophecy and that she and Jonah were basically soulmates meant to defeat Lucinda and bring the kingdom together. But it was also hard to believe. Only reason she hadn’t run was because she learned the prophecy. Because she knew how important this was. “Recently i wasn’t gonna come i was gonna disappear i’m different and i didn’t want to risk it.”

“Well were happy you didn’t.”

“We have an announcement to give we need to prepare Greenville for what is to come we need to get in touch with your parents and have them moved to the castle things are about to get dangerous fast.”
