26: Getting to know each other
“So how about some starter questions.” Jonah said he knew that was going to be the best way
“Like?” Layla asked she wasn’t sure what questions they should do.
“I’ll start when did your powers start to come in?” Jonah asked. He knew he’s had his powers for as long as he could remember and he wanted to know if it was the same for her.
“When i can remember 5.” Layla answered. She knew for as far back as she could remember she thought she was a freak. She had always been scared about what she could do. “My body temperature is always ice cold. I was playing with toys and i burned one and then freaking out and suddenly it was froze.”
Jonah chuckled lightly at the image of her freaking out and not understanding her powers. “When i was a kid mom would take me down to the lake and teach me how to do different things.”
“Cool. Umm simple color mine is ice blue for obvious reasons.” Layla said. She was sure it would simply always be her favorite color.
“Red. What is your favorite food? Mine is Pizza.”
“Roast i can eat it at any time no matter how i am feeling it’s my comfort food.” She felt as if it helped her to calm down when she was nervous. “Since we are on the topic o food how about dessert mine is anything chocolate.”
“Ice cream. You were adopted by the Linwood’s.” Jonah knew she was a Linwood and since she knew that she was not even really from here.
Layla nodded smiling slightly she was happy they were the ones who had gotten her that they had given her the best life she could possibly imagine. “Yeah i was and they are some of the best parents i could ever have asked for.”
“Did they know about your powers?” Jonah asked. He knew already that she was scared of other people knowing what she could do. So he wanted to know had she ever been able to tell them about what she could do.
Layla nodded slightly she wasn’t sure what to say on it. They loved her enough not care that she was different and that was all she could have asked for. “Yeah. They did i just never knew they knew. I was so scared they were going to try and treat me different. But they told me they knew nad they didn’t care. They only wanted to protect me. Its why my life was not as normal as others. ”
“How so?” Jonah asked. He knew what parents were willing to do for their children after all his mother was a prime example of a parents love knows no bounds.
“I was homeschooled i didn’t know normal things. I didn't get to go and have friends.” Layla said honestly she had hated it growing up. But she knew if she had been able to be normal she would have been risking not only herself but also the lives of others because she didn’t have control.
“You turned out alright.” Jonah said.
“Yeah i did.” Layla nodded she knew it was because she had her parents loves. Because even when her siblings knew what she could do nothing changed. Because their love never went away it simply got stronger. “My parents worked a lot so i helped raise my siblings.”
“I’m sure they are happy you were there to help.” Jonah said. He knew when his mom had started to get sick he had done everything he could in order to help her and it had payed off in the end.
Layla nodded she was happy to help her parents when ever she could. She was happy to be there for whatever her siblings needed. “Yeah being the parent when need be isn’t that bad. My little brother Liam comes to me whenever he’s scared.”
Jonah smiled he had already knew her siblings loved her from the interaction with Zamiyah but hearing it was something different indeed. “That’s because he knows his big sister is going to be there to help him through whatever he needs. She’s going to protect him.”
“Yeah i guess.” Layla sighed but she was suppiosed to be getting to know him to it wasn’t simply all about her. “What about you your life here?”
Jonah let out a breath he knew his life was complicated to say the least. His mother always told him the truth. She let him in on everything wanting him to understand what was going on. “My mother never hid from me that she would die soon. She wanted us to be prepared she wanted us to do what she couldn’t.”
“Stop Lucinda.” Layla finished.
Jonah nodded he knew that his mother wanted to right her wrongs and she was doing it. He knew she had to go but he was going to miss her more than anything. “She started to get worse within the last year thats how we knew it was almost time for her to go. But before that she was my hero. When i was 13 she sat me down and she told me about her past about Lucinda about how when she met my dad and she fell in love with him. How she used to cause trouble about her best friend Cameron. And how her and Lucinda had decided to bring their best friends in our their trouble how they wanted to take over and rule and they wanted the two rulers to help them. But when Cameron and Xavier met it was love at first sight.”
“You think it was that way for us.” Layla asked. She didn’t think so when she first met him he was cute but she wasn’t thinking about guys she was thinking about the ball and her powers.
“We are not our parents but i can say that it is close i want to see where this leads.”
“I do too.”
“Now next question.”
