25: The what if's
“Lets.”
Before the two could continue there was a knock at the door. “I got it.” Jonah said. He got up and went to open the door seeing that it was a maid with a pile of clothes.
Amaya went red she had known she was supposed to bring clothes to the princess for the night. “I was told to bring some clothes for princess Layla.”
Layla groaned plopping down on the bed. She knew that technically she was a princess but she really did not want to hear anything about this. “That’s going to take some getting used to.”
“I’ll take them thank you Amaya.”
“Of course my prince.” She bowed before turning and walking away he closed the door going over to Layla.
“Are you ok?” Jonah asked. He knew the princess thing was simply something that she was going to have to adjust to.
“I’m fine.” Layla lied. She wasn’t sure if she could be ok after everything that was going on.
“Are you sure about that?” Jonah asked. He was sure she was lying there was to much going on for her to be.
She shook her head sighing. Princess protector savior that was literally what her life was becoming and she wasn’t sure she was ready for it. “No i’m not.”
Jonah held out his hand for her. She groaned grabbing it letting him help her up. “How about you go and get changed and then we can get started.” Getting to know each other was the first step for everything else that was to come.
Layla stood grabbing the clothes and holding them to her chest. She knew this was going to be the beginning of a long rest of her life. “Can you unzip this my mother had to help me get this on.”
“Yeah i got you.” He stood behind her unzipping the dress and holding it for her. “Go change i’ll wait out here.”
She held the clothes to her chest and held her dress up and heading into the bathroom. She closed the door behind her going to set the clothes down on the counter. She let her dress drop starting to undo her corset. She let it drop to the floor and leaned against the wall. She took a few breaths. “Everything will be ok Layla everything will be ok. This is ok. Everything is ok i got this.”
She grabbed the shift first putting it on before grabbing the shorts and putting them on. She looked in the mirror at her reflection gazing at her amber eyes. She held out her hand producing a ball of fire. She watched as her eyes glazed dark amber.
She reached down grabbing her dress and corset opening the door and leaving out of the bathroom. She seen Jonah laying on the bed staring up at the ceiling with his feet dangling off. “I’m ready.” She deposited her clothes in the hamper going to sit next to him. “What are you doing?”
“Thinking.” Jonah sighed he had a lot on his mind knowing the prophecy and piecing everything together it made sense. His mother hadn betrayed Lucinda for the good of the kingdom. She was sacrificing herself so that he and Layla had the fighting chance. So they could do right by the kingdoms and they could stop Lucinda once and for all. But he couldn’t help but think what would happen if his mother had stuck by Lucinda and hadn’t met his dad all them years ago. He wouldn’t be here his mother wouldn’t be doing all this and preparing him for what Lucinda was doing. Because she would have helped her accomplish it.
“Of.” Layla questioned keeping her voice soft. She knew the best way for them to get to know each other was first letting each other in.
Jonah sighed turning to his side to look over at her. “How i got here and what would have happened if my mom and dad hadn’t met”
“Oh.” Layla said in a surprised tone. She could only imagine what it would be like if the two of them hadn’t met. If she didn’t stay on the path that led to now. She was sure it wouldn’t have been much fun for anyone.
“How much would have changed?” Jonah pointed out he knew one thing for sure if Lucinda had his mom around she would have had a much better chance at succeeding in her endevors to take over the throne and rule the world. “She wouldn’t have protected Greenville she would have banded together and took over. She would have probably helped kill you and helped Lucinda snag your dad.”
Layla’s eyes widened at the thought she took a breath in and out. She couldn’t imagine what would have happened if her dad had showed any interest in her. “Your mom mentioned that she had been in love with my dad but i hadn’t thought to much of it.”
“You could be Lucinda’s daughter.” Jonah emphasized he knew that was basically worse case scenario.
Layla scoffed she did not want to think about the fact that she could be the daughter of Lucinda if only her dad had liked her. “Can we not talk about that? I don’t want to think of the fact that the woman who would much rather see me dead had a thing for my dad.”
“From what my mom told me it never happened and any chance of that was gone the minute he met Cameron.” Jonah added. He could only imagine her mother being the one who had wanted to kill her.
“Imagine that being my life.” Layla sighed she knew it would have probably been a bad one from what she knew about Lucinda she was a terrible woman.
“If that was your life we’d probably never meet one of us wouldn’t be ” Jonah reminded. If her life had ended up like that the odds of his mother falling for his dad were pretty much nonexistent.
“If that was the case everything would be different.” She knew if Lucinda had been lucky enough to get her dad she would have went to war for the other side of The Land Of The Unknown. Her parents would most likely hate each other. “The Land Of the Unknown would probably still be divided. My parents would likely be at war.”
“You wouldn’t have ice powers.” Jonah added.
“Yeah i wouldn’t.” Layla sighed she couldn’t imagine who she would be without her ice powers. They were part of who she was.
“Things would be so different.”
She wanted to continue with what they were supposed to be doing. Getting to know each other. “Stop stalling are we doing this or not.”
Jonah chuckled sitting up he knew she was going to get back to it eventually. “We are lets get started.”
“So how do we do this exactly?” Layla asked. She wasn’t sure how they were supposed to go about getting to know each other.
“How about starting simple.”
