28: Preparing

Layla woke up again seeing she was back in her bed she sat up looking around confused. She saw the books she was looking at were on the table along with a note she reached over grabbing all three items.

‘Carried you back into your room get some rest the books are yours to have get some rest long day ahead of us- Jonah’

She smiled setting both books next to each other and opening them to the pages she had been looking at. She had found something that was interesting.

‘Members of the Fire Nation have the power to take energy from themselves for others.’ She switched over to the Ice Kingdom book. ‘When done right the members of the Ice Kingdom have the power to add years to their dying citizens.’ But something she found interesting was both had the same quote at the bottom of the page. ‘When done right this can save someone’s life.’

She took a breath closing the books and setting them back on the table. “When done right a life can be saved.” She was going to remember that she could do that and she would try but she didn’t want to get ahead of herself just yet. She got off the bed grabbing her phone and heading out of the room.

She seen a lot of the staff abuzzing. Running different ways with different things.

The one she recognized as the one who brought her the clothes walked over to her. After all it was her job to tend to whatever Layla needed. “Morning Princess.”

Layla smiled going to greet her and realizing she didn’t know her name. “Morning-”

“Amaya ma’am.” Amaya finished.

“Oh morning Amaya. What is all this?” Layla asked looking around she could tell they were preparing for something. But she swore it hadn’t been like this when she woke up a few hours ago.

“We have a lot to do and so little time.” Amaya answered she knew everyone was doing their best to get ready for the royal wedding. After all they didn’t have much time to complete it. “Follow me I Shall take you down for breakfast where the Royal family is.”

“Thank you Amaya.” Layla smiled.

“Of course Princess.” She bowed and turned, leading her to the dining room taking her through the winding corridors and down numerous flights of stairs. When they arrived at the two giant oak doors Amaya opened the door letting her walk in first. Layla saw a huge oak table with about 12 chairs surronding it. Ryan sat at the head of the table with Emma and Jonah to the left and right of him. There were guards and a few other servants standing around the room. “I shall be going.”

“thank you Amaya.” Jonah said.

“of course your majesty.” Amaya bowed and turned and walked away.

“Come sit.” Emma insisted she knew they had some things they needed to talk about.

Layla went and sat down next to Jonah he turned to look at her. “How are you feeling?”

“Better than I was yesterday.” Layla assured in her usual soft voice. Yeah it was a lot to learn but she was doing good.

“That is good to hear.” Emma admitted she was worried this was going to be to much at once for her. But she was happy to see she was resilient like her parents. “So you found the books.”

“Yeah” Layla nodded slightly. “I hope it was ok/”

“Those were put there for you to find Layla don’t worry.” Emma had made sure that her goddaughter could see them could read them could learn what they could not give her. “Do you like them?”

Layla nodded she was happy to find them she was happy to get a real chance to understand the history of her powers and where theyn came from. She was happier to find there was a spell that might save Emma. “I do i found it interesting.”

“That’s good.” Ryan said. He knew he had found them intersting himself when Emma had let him know about where she came from and how she had a best friend in the other kingdom. Ryan motioned to one of the servants.

“Yes your majesty.”

“Can you tell them to bring out the food?” He knew when they were all going to eat and talk about everything that needed to happen.

“Yes sir.” She bowed before walking off.

Soon four of the maids came out with a plate of food. Setting on in front of each of them.

“You are all dismissed.” Ryan ordered he knew this was a conversation the four of them needed to have not surrounded by any of the staff.

“Yes sir.” They all bowed turned to leave the room.

“So we have a lot to talk about.” Emma said after everyone had left from the room. She knew the first thing they needed to talk about the wedding. “First thing this morning your parents were sent a carriage to bring them to the castle. So they shall be here soon. I want to see Jonah get married.”

“So it’s happening soon.” Layla asked. She had known since she had been picked they would be getting married but hearing it out loud was a different feeling.

“Yes it is.” Emma confirmed.

“Mom has less than a week left.” Jonah reminded he knew it was something none of them wanted to remember.

Layla nodded she remembered Emma saying the barrier was linked to her life.

“And my dying wish was to get my goddaughter and see the two of you married.” Emma sighed smiling she was happy to see both coming true.

“Emma you are scaring the girl.” Ryan warned he knew this was a lot for her to learn in only a short amount of time.

Emma reached over taking her goddaughters hand she wanted to make sure that this happened. But she didn’t want to scare her she knew she was rather eager to see them married. “Layla i know this is a lot but we simply are running low on time. So we have to move quickly and the next few days are going to be filled with planning and practicing. Yeah i’m sure like your mother your powers are going to come naturally to you. But you deserve to get some experience in it with a being that understands the powers.”

“I appreciate that.” Laula said. She was sort of excited to have someone help her who knew what it was like to have magical abilities.

“Of course.” Emma wanted to do whatever she could to take the stress off the two of them. If she had less than a week then she was going to make it count. She wanted them to do what she never could do. “We will announce the engagement later today your family will be staying here for the duration of this. They are free to go back to home and work after Lucinda is taken care of but right now it is simply to dangerous. ”

“Ok.” Layla nodded.

“Eat, we have no time to waste.” Emma said.

“Don’t you think you are throwing this all on her too fast mom.” Jonah asked. He knew it had to happen with in the time frame but he was sure his mother could have given her a few more hours before dropping this all on her.

“No” Emma concluded she knew that fast or not it had to happen.

“Son you know this has to happen fast if we want your mom to get to see you married before Lucinda comes.” Ryan interjected he knew it was a bit fast but they had to act fast to get everything they wanted done before the time came.

“Lets do it.” Layla blurted she knew that this was what Emma had been sacrificing herself for and it was only right to make it worth something.

Jonah turned to look at her he knew that she wanted to do the best by everyone. But if she wasn’t ready for it they were going to slow down. “Are you sure?”

Layla nodded she was positive that this was what had to be done. No one else was going to stop and wait so they didn’t need to either. “Your mom is right we don’t have a lot of time to waste we need to do this now. Lucinda isn’t going to stop for this so we can’t either. She’s been rushing for this to happen for years and it finally is.”

“Ok.”

“Good eat your parents should be here we do the engagement announcement and then we get to work.”
