Chapter Fifty-One - A Stressful Day
McKenna
It has been a stressful day at work. One of our clients is a pain in the ass. Nothing is good enough for him. We have shown him multiple places. He is a rich guy who thinks he can treat us all like crap and talk to us like we are stupid. It took everything in me not to slap him or yell at him, but I bit my tongue. When or if he finally buys somewhere, we will profit well. He is not only looking for a home but also a place to open a new branch of the company he owns.
I need to deal with him again tomorrow! All I want to do is go home and snuggle up with my boyfriend. I am still getting used to calling him that. I can’t get what I want, though, because Carter will be home. I really need to get a place of my own. I sigh, heading out of the office. I need to get the bus or walk home. My car is in the shop. I need a new one. Something I should get before an apartment because I need it for work. They allowed me to use one of the company cars today to take the assholes around, but I am not allowed to take it home.
Thankfully, it is a nice evening, walking is fine. It is more reliable than the buses in this town. I head for the direction of home, but I don’t get far when I notice a familiar car parked down from my office. I smile when I see Paxton standing against it. He has a hoodie on with the hood up and shades on.
“What are you doing here?” I gush as I approach him.
He pulls himself off the car. The second I am within reach, he grabs my hips and brings me against him.
“I wasn’t going to let you walk home alone when it was starting to get dark. I also wanted to steal you for myself for a little bit.” He replies and kisses me softly.
I moan into the kiss and slip my arms around his neck, kissing back. He smiles into the kiss. It lasts a moment before we part.
“Thank you.”
“You seem tense. Is everything okay?” he asks, caressing my face.
“It has been a stressful day. I had a nightmare client who is a rich, rude jackass.” I huff.
Paxton wraps his arms around me, hugging me tightly against his chest. I instantly feel better.
“I am sorry you have had a rough day, baby girl. Let’s go get some ice cream. I have to pick dinner up, anyway.” He says, kissing the top of my head.
I look up at him. “Does Carter know you are picking me up?”
He shakes his head. “I will tell him I picked you up on the way back or something.”
“Okay.”
Paxton pecks my lips, takes my hand and guides us over to the car. He opens the door, letting me climb in first. He gives my ass a swat, as I do. I giggle and sit down. He winks at me before he closes the door. He runs around to his side, climbing in. I am happy to get a little time with him before we return home, even just for ice cream. It is better than nothing.
He starts the car, heading for the ice cream place. Paxton place his hand on my knee. I rest mine over his, linking our fingers. He lifts our hands and kisses my knuckles.
We only have a week left before he needs to return to his real life and back to the city. I will return to classes. We are both going to be busy. I don’t know how we are going to see one another. I dread it, but I don’t need to bring that up. He is probably feeling the same.
I turn to face out of the window, making sure he can’t see my expression on my face. If he does, he will know something is wrong.
“We are having Thai food for dinner, unless you want something else?”
His question pulls me from my thoughts.
“Yes, that is fine.” I reply.
He squeezes my hand and focuses on the road. We need to be careful Paxton doesn’t get noticed while we are in public, especially with me. The car comes to a stop outside of the ice cream shop. We stroll inside. Paxton goes to reach for my hand, but then remembers he can’t and pulls away, sighing. I wonder if it will always be like this. Us having to keep it a secret? Probably, since I don’t want us to go public. Will I always think like this? I don’t know. We need to see how things go.
We find a booth away from other people. It isn’t too busy. Paxton keeps his head down as we make our way to it. He sits at the side where his back is to everyone. He removes his hood and shades.
“I will go order.”
Paxton hands his car to me. I try to protest, but it doesn’t work. I roll my eyes, take his order and go place them at the counter. They will bring the orders over when they are prepared.
I return to the table and find Paxton lost in his thoughts. I take my seat across from him. I don’t want to sit next to him in case we get seen together. Me being seen that close to him would not be good for either of us.
“Babe, is everything okay?” I ask softly.
He lifts his head to put his attention on me.
“Yes, I am fine, angel.” He smiles.
“I wasn’t sure if I believed him, but he will tell me when you are ready.”
“Thank you, beautiful.”
I nod. I won’t push. The conversation stops there because our order arrives. Paxton turns his head away, thanking her. I smile and thank her, too. It must be hard, needing to hide. He does make times for his fans, but he makes her he doesn’t get noticed when he is with me. It would raise too many questions. Hopefully, we can make it through our ice cream date without anyone noticing him.

Paxton and I arrived back about ten minutes ago. We didn’t come right into the driveway. We didn’t want my brother hearing the car or seeing us. We wanted a little longer alone before we head inside.
I hesitantly draw back my lips from his, “We really need to head inside.” I giggle.
We have been making out like a pair of hormonal teenagers in the car since we arrived. If we keep going, I will end up climbing into his lap and fuck him right here in the car. As exciting and risky as the idea is, it would be too much of a risk. Anyone could catch us or my brother. I don’t know who would be worse.
“Mmm, yes, we probably should.”
“I would love to continue, but it will have to wait until later.” I breathe out.
“I will look forward to it.” He replies.
We take a moment to gather ourselves before we stroll inside. We don’t want the food to become too cold.
“Finally, what took so long?” Carter calls out and appears from the living room.
“Sorry, the place was busy. I picked Kenna up on the way too.” Paxton says.
“Good. I told her to call one of us to pick her up so she wouldn’t need to walk home.”
Carter takes the bag from Paxton and strolls to the kitchen. Paxton kisses me quickly, slaps my ass and follows Carter. I pull it together and stroll through. Carter dishes the food out and we all sit at the table to eat. I am ready for it. I haven’t had anything since breakfast because of the demanding douche client. I am famished!
“How was work, little sister?”
“Stressful about sums it up.”
He insists on me telling him what happened. I do.
“Do I need to come to your work and kick his ass?” Carter questions with a raised brow.
I laugh and shake my head. “No, I can handle him.”
“Well, if he gets too much to handle, tell me.” He says firmly.
“Yes boss.” I chuckle.
I change the topic of conversation, directing it to the guys and their days. Paxton places his hand on my thigh under the table. His fingers dance down to my inner thighs, the tips stroking the sensitive skin. I shift in my chair and shove a forkful of food in my mouth to stop from moaning. I see Paxton smirks out the corner of my eye. I gently kick him under the table. He squeezes my thighs before he pulls his hand away. Tease! I try to focus on my food.
I will need him later, but we will need to be careful since carter us home. We could try to stay away from one another, but it won’t work. I plan on spending as much time as possible with him since we only have a week left before he leaves.
