Chapter 11 Just Because I Like You,You Hurt Me So Recklessly
Outside, thunder rumbled and lightning struck. The bright light illuminated the entire bedroom for a moment through the glass.
The cozy bedroom that she had decorated with care now looked terrifying. The light and shadow intertwined on the window glass as another bolt of lightning accompanied by a loud thunderclap struck down with a "crack," as if tearing apart the entire sky.
"Ah!" Eleanor screamed, holding onto her blanket while cold sweat covered her body.
In this pitch-black stormy night, people tend to have wild thoughts when they are engulfed in fear. She imagined monsters appearing on the ceiling to swallow her whole or hands reaching out from under the bed to grab her. She dared not move but could only hold onto herself tightly.
"Sebastian..."
"Sebastian!" She shouted his name repeatedly from trembling at first until she was hoarse at last,as if trying to rip him out of her heart.
There was no one in the empty room who answered her call; all she could hear were muffled thunder sounds outside.
She felt abandoned like nobody wanted or remembered her anymore. Eleanor started crying again; she couldn't tell whether it was physiological tears or psychological ones...
...
After locking up his place in Eastern District,Sebastian left and received a weather forecast notification on his phone: there would be thunderstorms tonight. He remembered that Victoria was afraid of thunderstorms.
Driving towards Victoria's house,Sebastian found himself unconsciously thinking about Eleanor instead of focusing on where he should go next. His mind was restless as if he had lost his soul somewhere along the way.
He despised being controlled by anyone else and clenched his fists tightly around the steering wheel while waiting for green lights at an intersection before punching it hard once more...
...
Victoria's face looked somewhat haggard after just recovering from an illness when she saw Sebastian push the door open. Her eyes lit up with surprise,"Sebastian, have you eaten yet?"
"No."
"Then I'll cook for us to eat together." This house was bought by Sebastian for her,and he had hired someone to select only the best ingredients in the fridge.
As Victoria busied herself in the kitchen,Sebastian's vision slowly shifted from watching her to another person - Eleanor. He remembered that Eleanor had cooked meals for him every day when they were living together but he never tasted any of them.
Victoria felt someone staring at her and turned around while holding a spoon. When she saw Sebastian standing outside the kitchen, she smiled wryly: "Sebastian,go sit in the living room; you can't stand being exposed to cooking fumes."
She had known him since childhood and understood all his likes and dislikes better than anyone else in this world.
Sebastian nodded silently before turning back towards the living room where he switched on TV. The background music kept playing laughter tracks but he couldn't feel anything funny about it.
He stared at the screen while his mind wandered off again thinking about Eleanor crying with red eyes until his heart twitched painfully...
Even though he didn't care much about her before why did it suddenly hurt so much like needles piercing through his body? That fine-grained pain spread throughout every corner of his body as if there was no end to it... His forehead twitched uncontrollably as he pressed down on his temples where a vein kept throbbing non-stop.
His mood became increasingly agitated as time passed by; sitting on the sofa now with toes unconsciously reaching out towards the front door... As Victoria brought out freshly made soup from inside, she smelled an acrid smoke odor wafting over from somewhere nearby. She followed its scent only to find Sebastian lying on their couch with shirt sleeves rolled up revealing muscular arms while long fingers held onto a cigarette. He lowered his head and took a puff, the bluish-white smoke covering his face making it hard to read any emotions from him...
