Chapter 23 Concealing the Illness
"He has signed the surgical agreement and critical illness notice for you,so he already knows about your illness."
"Can David help me make a medical report without telling him?" Perhaps because she had been in a coma for too long,Eleanor's voice was hoarse to the point of being almost inaudible, but David understood what she meant.
David frowned and asked puzzledly: "Since you like him,why don't you tell him about your illness and explain it to him?"
"It's precisely because I like him that I won't tell him."
"Don't you want him to care more about you and feel sorry for you?"
Eleanor shook her head, suppressing the bitterness in her heart. How could Sebastian possibly feel sorry for her? Knowing that she was dying,he might even set off fireworks to celebrate finally getting rid of her.
And even if he did feel sorry for her,it would only be out of his sickness. She was dying anyway; any extra emotions were just pitiful.
The Stone family's young miss never needed pity.
"We're going to get divorced anyway. His concern is not important to me. Besides,as someone who is dying soon,I'd rather leave quietly." Eleanor slowly closed her eyes with an extremely calm expression on her face.
David felt a pain in his heart that caused it to convulse: "No way! Special drugs are being researched in China specifically designed to treat stomach cancer. In the eyes of researchers there, what you think is terminal cancer is just a minor ailment. When the medicine comes out, you'll be fine."
Eleanor's lips moved slightly as she said something very light: "David, I view life and death lightly; I even think it would be good if I died - at least then I'd be free from everything. But after my death maybe I'll trouble you to donate all my organs and burn the rest with fire, scattering my ashes into the sea..."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" David's eyes turned red as he stared at her without blinking.
Eleanor smiled: "I'm not talking nonsense. I've been trapped in the Stone family for my whole life and never got a chance to go out and see the world. I just want to see more of it after I die by following the ocean currents."
Without realizing it,tears welled up in his eyes. David pulled out a tissue and wiped away her tears: "Don't worry about what happens after your death while you're still alive. If you want to go out and see things,I'll take some time off work after your divorce from Sebastian is finalized and take you on a trip. As for Sebastian's side,I'll help keep it secret from him. But if he finds out that you 'lied' to him, will he...?"
"What else can he do? I'm already used to it."
David frowned: "Used to it?"
Only then did Eleanor realize she had said something she shouldn't have said; she quickly changed the subject: "You should go busy yourself now; there's nothing wrong here - just leave an attendant."
Seeing that she didn't seem willing to say anything more,David didn't ask any further questions either. He arranged for an attendant and gave instructions before leaving the ward.
With a knife wound on her body,Eleanor couldn't sit up temporarily so she stared outside through the window.
Getting used to something doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hurt anymore; Sebastian’s harm was still present in her heart even though external wounds could be healed with ointment over time but those internal ones were like tearing one’s heart apart when thought of.
Sebastian stood smoking at his designated spot where cigarette butts had piled up into a small mountain. It was unclear whether he had smoked them all or if they were already there.
The white light in the hallway shone on Sebastian's face, making his handsome and deep facial features appear even colder. When he heard movement behind him,Sebastian flicked away the cigarette butt in his hand and turned around to see David approaching.
He brushed off the dust from his body and walked straight over: "How is Eleanor doing?"
He resumed his cold tone as if he wasn't the same person who looked pained outside of the operating room just two days ago.
David sneered: "As long as you don't go in to bother her,she can live longer."
