Chapter 34 Making a Scene
The police officer couldn't bear it in his heart and didn't know how to tell Eleanor that her father had passed away. Sebastian, who was standing behind Eleanor, spoke up: "Open the door."
The police officer nodded and held onto the doorknob. With a click, the door opened slightly. A strong smell of blood wafted out, causing the police officer to step aside and let them enter.
This was the first time Eleanor felt afraid to enter a room. She couldn't see inside but kept hearing John's words on her phone replaying in her mind.
Sebastian pushed her slowly forward until they stopped about four meters away from where a stretcher with white cloth covering something lay.
Eleanor saw this scene and grabbed onto the wheelchair handle tightly, reopening wounds on her hands. She tried to stand up but Sebastian noticed and pressed her back down saying: "Don't move,I'll push you over."
Eleanor shook her head; she didn't believe that person under that white cloth could be John. She muttered: "No way...it can’t be him."
She refused to believe that man lying there could be John -the man who used to call her names- he wasn’t worthy of being called a father; he had an awful personality which he directed towards his daughter.
But when Eleanor was young,he held her in his arms, fed milk powder for babies and changed diapers...
Why did things turn out like this?
Eleanor wanted to shout “Dad” but no sound came out of her mouth.
Sebastian pushed Eleanor closer until they were only one meter apart from where John lay covered by white cloth emitting an even stronger smell of blood than before.
Numbly staring ahead with wide eyes filled with tears streaming down through fingers covering them as if trying not look at what’s underneath anymore.
Her knees buckled and she fell to the ground,Sebastian caught her. She pushed him away with all her strength and crawled forward two steps before collapsing again.
Sebastian held onto her as Eleanor trembled in pain while crying uncontrollably. She covered her eyes but tears kept flowing through the gaps between fingers, overwhelming despair almost crushing her.
Eleanor knelt on the ground, slowly crawling towards John's body until she reached out and pulled down a corner of the white cloth covering his face.
When she saw John's twisted bloody face,it was like all bones had been removed from her body; she collapsed into Sebastian’s arms.
She knew that John had died from jumping off a thirty-story building - how could he have survived? And at the end of that video clip which replayed in Eleanor’s mind over and over again just like now- there was blood everywhere on his face along with brain matter...
But still, she couldn't believe that man who watched her grow up was dead.
Eleanor choked: "Dad...I promise you everything... I'll give you and my brother our company back. I don’t want anything else… Please wake up! Those four days when you were gone I didn't know what happened to you because they locked me up! If you blame me for this then wake up so we can argue about it... Dad please don't ignore me... All those things I said before were lies; I never hated you… Look at yourself being so concerned about your image yet why are your clothes dirty? It's too cold here dad let's go home together ... How much money do you need?"
The police officer nearby heard what Eleanor said and interrupted: "Ms. Stone, your father has passed away after jumping off a thirty-story building. He won't be able to wake up."
Eleanor shook her head muttering: "No way...he is just angry; whenever he gets mad,he would pretend to sleep and ignore me...he used to get mad at me all the time..."
She turned her head towards Sebastian and asked him while choking: "Do you think he is angry with me? Is that why he's ignoring me?"
Sebastian didn't say anything. He just looked at her with a faint expression as if mocking her.
Eleanor panicked; she couldn't hold back anymore and burst into tears. Her eyes were bloodshot, giving off a terrifying look as if she was looking at an enemy.
Sebastian couldn’t stand the way Eleanor was looking at him like this. His half-closed eyes flashed with danger: "What? Do you want to make a scene now?"
