Chapter 27 She is the Only Tragic Character in this Play

The tear fell on Sebastian's finger,and although it was a cool temperature,he recoiled as if he had been burned. His gaze shifted uncomfortably and only then did he notice that Eleanor's hand was bleeding.
Sebastian pressed the button on the wall and turned coldly: "I'm leaving now. You stay here at the hospital by yourself. I'll take you to court next Wednesday."
Eleanor watched his back and suddenly said,"Sebastian,I always thought you were not a man of your word." Although she was confirming this fact,her tone trembled with hesitation.
Sebastian didn't look back at her but just opened the door and walked out of the ward lightly saying,"Eleanor,let me remind you that I am someone who has lied to a priest before."
Like all her bones had been removed from her body,Eleanor lay weakly on the bed. Tears flowed continuously down her cheeks wetting the pillow. At this moment she finally realized everything.
When Eleanor married Sebastian years ago it caused quite a stir since both families were not small ones; they involved two companies worth billions of dollars so besides signing prenuptial agreements their wedding ceremony was also very important.
They held a simple wedding in front of media cameras where Father solemnly asked Sebastian holding an open Bible: “Mr. Sebastian do you promise to take care of Miss Eleanor for life? To love her cherish her protect her through poverty or wealth sickness or health?"
Wearing black suit that year Sebastian stood opposite to answer three words: “I do."
So from beginning their marriage was based on deception; how could Sebastian keep his promises?
Eleanor cried silently without making any sound; only convulsions wracked through her body causing pain deep into every wound.
She looked at needle in left hand hating herself for remembering Sebastian for sixteen years,approaching him recklessly like a moth to the flame,chasing after him shamelessly saying she loved him and marrying him like an idiot.
It was all just a play from beginning to end. Only she had truly entered into it becoming the tragic character.
Now forced into bankruptcy everyone was laughing at her; perhaps those who mocked her already knew the outcome before her. Only Eleanor,who acted like a fool,understood how much humiliation she brought upon herself by liking Sebastian for sixteen years.
Sebastian walked out of the ward but didn't leave immediately. He stood outside leaning against the cold wall listening to sobs coming from inside.
The suppressed crying of this woman pierced his eardrums like sharp knives causing him to clench his fists involuntarily.
He hated Eleanor so why did he get so angry when he heard that she wanted a divorce?
Why?
Sebastian tried to explain it himself: It wasn't because he cared about Eleanor but purely due to male possessiveness. To better manipulate and torment this hypocritical woman they pretended as husband and wife while treating her like a dog tied up beside them!
Sebastian lowered his eyelids with no trace of previous anger on his face; instead there was only calmness in his pitch-black eyes which were deep as still water during stormy weather.
After lingering for a moment seeing that nurse came over,Sebastian released his clenched fist and left.
