Chapter 32 She Became the Biggest Joke
That day,she gave up her pride and knelt in the rain for half an hour in front of everyone, becoming the biggest joke.
Eleanor's tears fell one by one onto Sebastian's clothes, staining them into a patch. She hated him so much, but even more hateful was herself.
John's death made it impossible for her to forgive Sebastian or herself.
Sebastian seemed to feel her hatred. His hand trembled and he had only one thought in his mind: if John really died, how could Eleanor willingly stay with him?
He couldn't let Eleanor leave him, absolutely not!
The phone rang and Sebastian came back to his senses. He hugged Eleanor with one hand and took out his phone from his pocket with the other hand to answer Michael's call.
Michael called urgently: "Mr. Hastings,John committed suicide by jumping off a building on his way to court and died on the spot. How should we handle this body?"
Sebastian felt suffocated in his chest. A brief panic flashed through his eyes as he found himself caught between two difficult choices - he didn't know how to respond to Michael's words.
He moved away from Eleanor for fear that she would hear the voice on the phone.
"Should I tell Ms. Stone about John’s death?" The person on the other end of the line asked anxiously when they received no response from Sebastian.
"I'll come over later; you deal with it first." Taking a deep breath,Sebastian hung up the phone.
Eleanor had completely collapsed into his arms like she was dead; tears flowed down continuously from her closed eyes along her cheeks stained red by grief and despair inside them.
Sebastian wiped away her tears with his fingers touching at corners of her eyes which opened wide revealing their emptiness filled with sadness beyond measure:
"I want to see him."
"Okay,I'll take you to see him," Sebastian replied.
Blood on Eleanor's hands stained Sebastian's clothes with a nauseating rust smell. He was somewhat of a germaphobe and only frowned slightly when he saw it.
Just as he was thinking about how to deal with the situation, the nurse finished her procedures and came out.
Seeing what had happened here, she hurried over with guilt and anxiety written all over her face: "Ms. Stone, are you okay? It's my fault; I should have let you lie in bed."
Eleanor nestled in Sebastian's arms so that no one could see her expression but from her trembling body they could guess that she was enduring immense pain at this moment.
The nurse didn't know what had happened but seeing the man's dark complexion combined with the chaos around them made her instinctively afraid. Men who were long accustomed to being in power carried an inherent sense of intimidation; just by keeping their faces straight without saying anything would be enough to make people gasp for air - not to mention now when his face looked even darker than usual while his obsidian pupils were filled with frost.
"Clean up the floor and I'll take her out for a while before coming back soon."
"But Dr. Miller said she needed an IV drip."
"You tell him that I will bring Eleanor back within three hours if he is worried then call me or someone else can go pick up medicine from the hospital later."
What else could she do after everything has been said like this? The nurse felt very self-blaming as she quickly cleaned up the wheelchair and medication bag lying on the ground.
In front of this man, anyone seemed useless; Sebastian put Eleanor back into the wheelchair himself and took some gauze and disinfectant water from the nurse’s hand to give simple treatment for Eleanor’s injured hand which had a six-centimeter-long wound caused by needles leaving bloody flesh turned inside out.
Eleanor was very afraid of pain, but this time she didn't even frown.
