Chapter 37 Breaking a Hand

Eleanor looked up,tears streaming from her beautiful eyes. Her once clear eyes were now clouded with grayness, and Sebastian seemed to see the deadness in her heart through them.
Her stomach was still twisting in pain. Eleanor was tired of the pain. She opened her sour eyes and said,"Sebastian,my family is ruined and I have paid off what I owe you..."
"What do you mean by 'paid off'?" Sebastian interrupted coldly before she could finish speaking. His narrowed eyes sparkled with cold light as he continued,"Eleanor, you can never repay me for what you owe me. Don't try to blame your father's death on me. Your brother is still alive after all. If you don't want him to end up like your father did,it's best that you keep your thoughts to yourself because you know what I'm capable of."
Since Eleanor had already decided that he was extremely cruel, then he would show her just how cruel he could be; otherwise his words earlier would have been meaningless.
Sebastian stood in front of her tall figure with his back against the light casting a shadow over his face making it look even more sinister.
"Are you using Robert to threaten me?"
"It's not really a threat," Sebastian replied nonchalantly while curling his lips into a smile like that of a bloodthirsty demon as he slowly approached Eleanor enticingly saying: "Eleanor, feel free to let go and not care about anything anymore since there isn't much difference between your remaining loved ones and enemies at this point anyway? Have they ever cared about or protected you during these years when they were around? I am sure if it were YOU who were in danger right now they wouldn't waste any time helping YOU out."
Eleanor was too kind-hearted; since she couldn't cut ties with these people, then she deserved to become his tool.
Eleanor clenched her fists tightly with her fingertips digging into the palms of her hands as she restrained the anger in her chest. As a woman, she couldn't beat Sebastian and there was no point arguing with him either.
Sebastian could see things more clearly than Eleanor. What he said was true but did that mean that she should really just let go?
As long as she thought about not caring anymore,John's words before he died would keep repeating themselves in her mind like a buzzing sound in both ears.
She was dying anyway and wouldn't live for more than two years. Was it worth trading those two years for Robert's decades? From a time perspective alone,it seemed so.
There wasn't any expression on Eleanor's face that Sebastian didn't notice. Seeing that she remained silent,he knew that she had made up her mind.
He had given her sincere advice earlier; if anything went wrong later on then it would be entirely due to herself being unable to let go of emotions which nobody else could be blamed for.
Eleanor shouldn't even think about escaping from his side during this lifetime because even if she flew away like a kite,an invisible string tied around one foot would always bring her back to him whenever he pulled lightly on it.
Sebastian handed the cup in his hand over to Eleanor's mouth and watched as she drank from it before showing a satisfied smile saying: "As long as you behave yourself well enough we will get along just fine." He had little patience left when hearing the word 'divorce' coming out of Eleanor's mouth again and again.
Eleanor closed her eyes suddenly...
Suddenly there was a loud bang outside followed by someone calling out: "Eleanor."
Sebastian stood beside the bed blocking off everything from view while covering up Eleanor completely saying: "She is already asleep."
David spoke directly stating his purpose: "I want to take Eleanor back home with me." Sebastian was too dangerous and Eleanor would eventually be eaten up by him if she stayed by his side for much longer. He couldn't just let it go.
Sebastian found it amusing and sneered,"Dr. Miller seems to have forgotten that Eleanor is my wife. What right do you have to take her away?"
"Sebastian, are you even qualified to say such things? Eleanor will divorce you!" David said confidently.
It seemed that Eleanor had told David many times about wanting a divorce from Sebastian. Just the thought of her being intimate with another man behind his back made him burn with anger inside.
"Is that so?" Sebastian smiled mockingly,"But she just said earlier that she won't divorce me and will obediently listen to what I say as my wife."
Sebastian was good at disguising his emotions; he felt angry but on the surface he appeared calm which made it hard for people to tell what he was really thinking.
David immediately retorted,"Impossible. Sebastian, haven't you caused enough misery for Eleanor? How could she still want to be with you?"
"Maybe she's just cheap," Sebastian replied mockingly.
David stiffened. He had always known that Sebastian was not good to Eleanor, but he never expected him to call her cheap in front of him.
His anger erupted uncontrollably and David cursed out "beast!" before charging at Sebastian with his fist raised.
Sebastian's eyes turned cold as he dodged the punch and grabbed David by the collar. With a forceful swing,he threw David onto the ground. Despite groaning from the impact and attempting to fight back,David was subdued by Sebastian within two or three moves - after all,as a medical student, his physical strength couldn't compare to that of someone who had won a Sanda championship like Sebastian.
"You guys should find another place if you're going to fight," Eleanor spoke up first.
With one hand still choking David's neck and his other hand holding back a punch mid-air,Sebastian turned around and looked at Eleanor indifferently while saying sarcastically: "What? Can't bear seeing him hurt anymore?"
Sebastian's gaze was so indifferent that it was hard for people to tell whether he was angry or not. However, what came out of his mouth remained piercingly sharp as usual.
Suppressing David down on the ground again made him roar: "Eleanor! Come with me now! If this continues any longer you'll end up dead!"
It seemed like they hadn't hit hard enough yet; tightening his grip on David’s neck until it turned red-faced from suffocation while hearing those words made Sebatian laugh even more arrogantly: “Even if I play her dead someday, you can only watch beside us since she is my wife!"
These words were not only meant for David but also for Eleanor - he wanted her to know that even if she died, she couldn't escape his control.
"Sebastian,you beast... ah!"
A loud crack was heard as David screamed in agony. Sebastian had dislocated one of David's arms with just one hand.
Eleanor sat on the bed and froze completely. Her heart suddenly stopped beating, feeling like it had been torn apart by a crack. She gasped for air as if being strangled by something cold and windy.
Sebastian already misunderstood her relationship with David; the more nervous she became about him,the angrier Sebastian would get. Therefore, she couldn't show any concern at all.
Eleanor tightly pulled the sheet on her body and forced herself to speak calmly despite trembling: "Sebastian, let go of David and let me talk to him."
She looked down at David who was writhing in pain on the ground before continuing indifferently: "David,I won't divorce Sebastian. I like him - even though it's stupid - so don't try to persuade me anymore or say anything about divorce in front of us again."
"Do you know what you're saying? Is Sebastian threatening you?" David didn't believe it.
"No one is threatening me," Eleanor replied firmly while avoiding eye contact with anyone else in the room. "I just want to stay by his side peacefully from now on. You can leave now and stop worrying about me." She didn’t want to see David getting hurt because of her anymore anyway since there were only two years left until everything ended between them; if Sebatian wanted to drag things out then he could do so himself.
"If only you said this earlier," Sebastian smiled satisfactorily after hearing what Eleanor said but there was still a chilliness around his lips when he leaned towards David whispering words that only they could hear: “You are not someone whom Eleanor can imagine."
He released his grip on David and stood up,kicking him to the corner of the wall with a loud bang.
"David..." Eleanor didn't expect that even after she had said what Sebastian wanted her to say,he would still hurt David like this.
Her voice gradually faded away in Sebastian's murderous expression. He came to Eleanor's bedside and looked at the almost empty IV bag hanging above it. He grabbed her cold trembling hand and was about to remove the needle when Eleanor suddenly pulled back as if being electrocuted, causing the needle to bend and blood gushing out from her vein.
Sebastian's face turned cold as he held onto her dodging wrist tightly before quickly removing the bent needle from her vein where blood was now spurting out uncontrollably. He pressed a piece of paper against it until it stopped bleeding before letting go.
"Let’s change hospitals," Sebastian suggested while bending down to carry Eleanor into his arms.
What else could Eleanor say? All of her resistance meant nothing here with Sebatian; clenching her lips together, she tried hard not let any emotions show through while enduring all these boiling feelings inside herself.
David was too injured too stand, only watching them go.
After leaving the hospital,Sebastian's face immediately darkened. Even the fake smile on his face disappeared: "You are not allowed to meet David alone in the future. You should stay away from those men who have ulterior motives towards you. If I find out that you have a relationship with him that is not suitable for public viewing,it won't be as simple as breaking his hand."
"Sebastian, can't you stop being so dirty-minded?" He suspected that she had something going on with David, but why didn't he think about the news of him and Victoria?
Sebastian laughed angrily. Perhaps Eleanor still didn't know how David looked at her with such focused eyes - definitely not an expression between ordinary friends.
"When you get better,I'll let you experience what true dirtiness is!"
Eleanor felt his deep malice and stiffened in Sebastian's arms before changing the subject: "Where's my dad?"
"He's at the crematorium. Do you want to go see him?"
Everyone has already seen it; do they need to go see a handful of ashes?
"I'll choose my own grave site for my dad."
"Okay." As long as Eleanor obediently listened to him,he would give her anything she wanted.
Sebastian took Eleanor to another clinic where the doctor asked: "Do you want a full-body checkup?"
Sebastian thought it was troublesome: "No need. She has already been checked at City Hospital before - gastrointestinal bleeding. Just prescribe medicine according to this area."
City Hospital was Los Angeles' best hospital; coming here obviously meant that her illness wasn't serious enough for them to consider admitting her into a ward or prescribing medication for her stomach issues.
The cemetery Eleanor chose was next to her mother's grave site - John loved no one more than himself except for her mother during his lifetime.
Eleanor was weak and couldn't attend the funeral. It wasn't until she could stand and walk on her own that she asked Sebastian to take her to the cemetery.
Los Angeles had been experiencing constant drizzles lately, with rain for three days followed by two sunny days. While other places were already entering summer,Los Angeles was still chilly.
They thought it would be clear after the rain today but didn't expect it to start pouring again halfway through their drive. The rain grew heavier and the wind outside kept blowing; large stones of raindrops hit the car's hood, making a loud noise as if they wanted to shatter the glass.
The rainfall eased slightly after arriving at the cemetery. The driver got out first and held an umbrella over Sebastian before opening his door.
