Chapter 24 Eleanor Does Not Have Stomach Cancer
Sebastian was taken aback by David's words and almost couldn't catch his breath. He could smell the cigarette smoke on David from a distance, but he reminded him that Eleanor couldn't stand it due to her poor health. Sebastian had not taken care of her before,so David had already arranged for a caregiver and instructed them on how to take care of her.
Although David's words were concise and clear,Sebastian didn't pay attention to them at all because he felt uncomfortable hearing David call Eleanor by name in such an intimate way. It was like someone else looking at a toy that belonged to him even though he didn't particularly like it. This was a public place where patients were resting,so they couldn't argue with each other. After speaking coldly,David left.
Standing still,Sebastian smelled himself and realized that there was an unpleasant odor coming from his body after not showering for two days. The smell of cigarettes covered it up well, but as David said earlier,Eleanor couldn't tolerate the smell of smoke. Therefore,he stood near the ventilation area waiting for the smoke odor to dissipate before returning to the ward.
After walking some distance away from Sebastian,David told the nurse next to him: "Give this fake medical report to Sebastian later." He promised to keep Eleanor's condition hidden from everyone else including Sebastian; therefore he prepared this fake report one day ago.
The nurse asked: "But will he believe it?" After all,the patient had vomited so much blood previously and even received critical illness notifications.
No matter how she thought about it she could not imagine what kind of person would believe such a report blindly.
"If he really cares about Eleanor then surely he will investigate further; however if he doesn’t care then whatever we say will be believed without question."
The young nurse nodded vaguely in agreement and took the crumpled report to the intensive care unit.
...
Sebastian was about to push open the door when a young nurse called out to him, gasping for breath. "Sir,please wait."
He turned around and saw her running towards him with a messy file in her hand. His gaze fell on it as she handed it over: "This is your wife's medical examination report."
Sebastian's hand trembled slightly as he received it. After flipping through two pages,he suddenly stopped at the section that stated "Gastrointestinal Bleeding" but nothing else.
The nurse cautiously watched his reaction while feeling embarrassed. Seeing that Sebastian kept staring at the column of “gastrointestinal bleeding,” she wanted to leave quickly.
"She doesn't have stomach cancer? Why isn't it written here?" Sebastian's face remained unchanged, but his deep cold eyes seemed to emit an endless chill that made people shudder uncontrollably.
Faced with Sebastian’s questioning gaze, she felt like she was being stared down by a fierce beast. Her legs became weak and wobbly; however, she managed to stay put and nodded hastily: "That was what your wife requested us to do. If you want answers then you should ask her yourself." She glanced at the nearby door before continuing: "But her condition was really critical back then; otherwise we wouldn’t have asked you sign a critical illness notification."
Sebastian didn't listen or pay attention to any of her warnings because all he could think about was how Eleanor had conspired with this hospital staff member who lied about having stomach cancer in order deceive him into believing something false.
With all his strength,he twisted up the medical report into a ball of paper which soon became useless.
