Chapter 33 Those Memories

Sebastian held Eleanor's cold hand and applied the medicine very gently. It was the first time in his life that he had treated someone so carefully.
If anyone who knew him saw this scene, they would be shocked. Who is Sebastian? Just mentioning him would make people think of arrogance and conceit. Yet here he was, kneeling before a woman to apply medicine for her,and she happened to be the person he hated most.
Sebastian didn't even notice his own actions, while Eleanor seemed lost in thought. Only the nurse noticed what was happening - two people who were just arguing fiercely now looked so harmonious together that no one could interfere with them.
Online rumors said their relationship had broken down despite being famous as a couple, but it didn't seem like it at all.
Indeed... online rumors cannot be trusted.
Sebastian had never taken care of anyone before or done such meticulous wound dressing: applying ointment and wrapping gauze around the wound was enough.
Afraid that Eleanor might fall again like earlier,Sebastian fastened her safety belt before walking behind to push her wheelchair.
The nurse hesitated for a moment before approaching them from behind. She watched their backs until they disappeared from view before turning around to find David.
Half an hour on the road felt endless for Eleanor; various scenes flashed through her mind: bickering with John, quarreling with each other; John holding her in old photos with a smile on his face...
These memories were so fragile - like soap bubbles ready to burst at any moment - congested and jostling against each other as if trying to cover up John's bloody face in the video footage.
Eleanor curled up in the passenger seat leaning towards right side; long eyelashes half-drooping over eyes while long hair spread across backrests.
At this moment,Eleanor was so fragile – like a cracked crystal doll, showing lightness and delicacy all over her body. It seemed that she would break into pieces if touched.
Sebastian called Michael to inform him that the police had transferred John's body to the station.
Following the navigation system,Sebastian parked outside. Eleanor was like a soulless person with no reaction at all, staring blankly with her eyes wide open.
Sebastian got out of the car and unfastened her safety belt. She didn't cry or make any fuss - quite different from how she had bitten him crazily earlier. But this kind of Eleanor made Sebastian even more anxious.
Bending down,Sebastian gently picked up Eleanor who looked like an injured cat – very obedient and pitiful in his arms – before placing her on the wheelchair.
Michael was waiting at the door; when he saw Sebastian pushing Eleanor towards him,he immediately ran over wanting to help: "Mr. Hastings, let me push."
Sebastian avoided him without saying anything but just stared coldly at Michael.
Michael stopped moving immediately and stood stiffly aside watching as Sebastian pushed Eleanor inside.
He realized belatedly that although he said he didn't care about Eleanor verbally, his possessiveness betrayed his true feelings physically.
Michael led them inside where John's corpse lay in a room usually off-limits for others due to its horror-inducing appearance after jumping off a building.
Police were guarding outside while looking at the closed door in front of them; their eyes flickered hesitantly as they watched Eleanor approach them timidly asking: "Is my dad inside? How is he now? Is he badly hurt?"
The policeman lowered his head and moved his lips silently; it felt like cotton wool blocked his throat making it difficult for him to speak.
Eleanor looked puzzled as if wondering why he wasn't answering: "My dad is John Stone. Is he inside? He was supposed to have a retrial today."
Yes,John was supposed to have a retrial today. There was enough evidence proving his innocence; he wouldn't commit suicide by jumping off the building.
The man was just angry that she had taken away his lover's life since her birth and hated himself for taking away the Stone family. He resented himself for not checking on him during those four days,so he made up this story to deceive her intentionally.
When someone suffers severe trauma and falls into fear, their body automatically triggers protective mechanisms. The person seems to shrink inside a hard shell with an empty mind, doubting the reality of what they are experiencing as if it were all just a nightmare that would disappear when they wake up.
