Chapter 14

Abigail's heart was racing as she stood beside Asher. Kyle's gaze fell on her and turned her face away, not daring to look squarely at Kyle. It was way too embarrassing, but she had her ears wide open to listen to his words.

"Speak" Asher leaned on the dining table, folding his large arms against his shirt, his deep green eyes on Kyle.

"It turns out that last night when Clara and Emma made a distress call it was to someone in California. I tracked down the number they called and It turned out to be the cell phone number of a woman who works at a cleaning company."

A cleaning company? How can that be?

Kyle moved forward and handed a brown envelope to Asher Reed. Abigail leaned closer as Asher pulled out the papers that contained information about this woman.

Abigail began to think. Her eyes stared at the woman's name and picture. She didn't know this woman, even if she did, she couldn't remember because of her amnesia. Surely, the mastermind deliberately used a random woman's ID to register the phone.

"Did you try to contact the number again?" Asher asked and Kyle nodded.

"Yes. But it's been switched off since last night" Kyle answered.

Abigail figured that the phone must have been discarded into the trash can by the mastermind behind all this. Whoever that person was must have known that they were on to them. She sighed.

"Mr. Reed, the cleaning lady said that that number didn't belong to her and she didn't register this phone number with her ID card at all," Kyle uttered.

Abigail sighed again in frustration. With what she was hearing it simply meant they had no way of finding out who Emma and Clara called last night. Whoever they were taking instructions from, they had no way of knowing now.

"What about Clara and Emma?" Abigail asked, maybe the police could get something from them.

Kyle said, "Madam, Clara, and Emma haven't regained consciousness since last night."

Abigail nodded. She remembered Asher telling her that they were rushed to the hospital after arriving at the station. This wasn't good at all. She felt her body suddenly become so weak and for a second she felt her vision go hazy. She took a step back, almost losing her balance and stumbling on the marble but Asher caught her quickly, snaking her hand around her waist. He led her to the chair in the dining room.

"Keep investigating, Kyle." Asher turned to Kyle, his voice was indifferent like he was not surprised by the result in the slightest.

"Okay, Mr. Reed," Kyle said respectfully, lowering his head a little before exiting the dining room.

Abigail sat still, pondering. She couldn't believe Clara and Emma were unconscious in the hospital. Now it was difficult for the police to make them confess the truth. The secret of who the mastermind is will remain unknown.

Abigail leaned on the table, still consumed by her thoughts leaned on the glassy dining table. She heard Asher's voice in the walls of her mind.

"Open your mouth," His voice echoed within her. And obediently, her lips pulled apart and he stuffed some pasta into her mouth.

Abigail's eyes widened as she shook out of her thoughts. Her blue eyes snapped at Asher but they didn't show anger. She had to admit the pasta tasted so good in her mouth or was it due to her hunger she found it so tasty, she couldn't tell.

Reluctantly, she chewed on the food, sliding it down her throat. Her eyes met Asher's green irises, and she pulled her lips together, pouting. "Asher, please don't force me to eat any of these. It will ruin my weight loss plan. Just ignore me, will you."

She pulled away from the table, and stood up from the chair, turning to leave the dining area but Asher's strong hand dragged her back, he pulled her closer to his chest, and his lips came to her ears.

"You will leave only when you are done eating. If you do not want to eat yourself, I could still feed you like I just did," He said, almost naughtily that Abigail jerked back to see if he was being serious. But there wasn't a glint of any emotion in his eyes. She couldn't tell if he was being serious or not. How could he feed her entire dinner from his mouth to hers?

She felt her cheeks burn just remembering the feel of Asher's lips on hers.

"No. There's no need for that," she pulled away from him, but he didn't let go of her arm. "Just take a look at me, Asher. I don't want to grow any fatter than this. If you don't feel disgusted by the way I look, well I do. I want to lose some fat, and eating these won't help me," She added.

Asher only raised one of his thick perfect brows. "So that's a yes then, you want me to keep feeding you,"

She scoffed. What was wrong with this man? Couldn't he understand what she has been saying for hours now?

She sent him a brief glare, muttering under her breath before picking up the bowl of soup. Abigail gulped it down as quickly as she could. She dropped the empty bowl on the table, shoving a faux smile to Asher. "Happy now?"

He remained silent, letting go of her arm. He didn't say anything, but Abigail noticed a glint in his eyes. As soon as she was free, she rushed out of the dining area, hastening to her room, searching for something.

After searching for some seconds, she found her familiar wallet in her bag.

She dropped the bag, holding her wallet in one hand. Her face went pale, staring at the wallet Abigail suddenly remembered a certain secret was hidden in the wallet.

With a trembling hand, she unzipped the hidden compartment of the wallet. She froze.
