Chapter 33

"How does the coffee taste?" Abigail asked curiously, searching Asher's gaze.

"Average." He said, taking another sip.

She hissed internally. There was just no pleasing him. She had spent a lot of time hand-grinding coffee for him, but all she got in return was the compliment "Average."

But she hadn't actually done that for a compliment; She still needed to ask him about you know what.

"Since you drank my freshly ground coffee, Asher, would you kindly do me a favor?" Abigail said in a very euphemistic manner.

Asher's eyes leveled on ger. "You want me to do you a favor because of a cup of coffee?" Asher asked, gazing at the cup of freshly ground coffee and to her.

"Uh.. if you want more, then I'll make more for you," she offered quickly, leaning on the table.

"Firstly, tell me the kind of favor you want me to do for you?" He said, making Abigail swallow hard. Now was the time to speak.

She cleared her throat, tugging at her arm. "Well," she started, suddenly realizing how difficult it was to say what was on her mind. But this was a good opportunity that she couldn't afford to miss.

"I want you to take me to the Golden award night, it's not necessarily that I will go as your wife. You could take me there as your assistant." She finally said.

Abigail didn't care if he went with another woman that was as beautiful as Jade turner and took her as his assistant, she couldn't blame him if he didn't want to walk the red carpet with her. They simply looked mismatched standing next to each other. The most important thing was confronting Dave.

There was no reply, Asher had his hands crossed on the table, his gaze was colder and somewhat more piercing as he regarded Abigail.

She felt her bones shudder under his stare. Asher was regarding her as if he was studying her. Hands clenched tightly, as she carefully said, "You just need to take me in, you don't have to stay with me all the time."

But he still didn't say a word. She pursed her lips before adding, "If you want to take someone else, I won't mind."

She meant the beauty, Jade. And the way Asher stared at her, she knew he understood what she was saying. They should both walk on the red carpet, it's definitely better than taking her with him.

She kept pleading her case, but not once did Asher utter a word or pull his gaze away from hers. Abigail became terrified that he might just reject her request.

She pressed her two hands pleadingly in front of him. "Pretty please,"

Asher's cold gaze lingered a little longer on her before his lips finally parted but the words that left those cherry soft lips wasn't what Abigail was expecting to hear, "Do you want to see your ex-boyfriend?" He asked with a deadly voice.

The manner he said those words really scared her, and his gaze grew more frightening that Abigail was forced to sink deeper into the chair.

"You are right, Asher. I am going there to see Dave, but trust me, it's not for the reason you are thinking," she said, feeling the need to explain herself to him. She didn't like the look on his face.

"And what is the reason I am thinking?" He asked again, and she blinked a couple of times.

"Well, you know," she struggled for the right word but couldn't come up with anything. Abigail sighed. "I know you think I am still in love with Dave but —"

She was surprised that he cut her off abruptly.

"Isn't that the truth?" He shot at her quickly in a cold voice that she disliked. But she wasn't going to answer that.

"I am going to see him because that asshole stole my script. 'The fairy tale' script that has turned him into California's best movie star, I wrote that script." She huffed, her rage instantly returning. " By the way, you are the guest of honor issuing out the awards, do you know who won his category?" She asked.

"Even if I knew, I can't tell you," Asher took a sip from his coffee again.

"Why not? Aren't we a married couple, we shouldn't hide things from each other," she said.

"Oh," Asher released a short chuckle that shocked Abigail. "So we are only a couple when you need the truth from me,"

"No, I didn't say that," she rested back on the chair. "Didn't I make an attempt to perform my wifely duties by making you dinner, and what did you do? You didn't even have a bite,"

*You consider that dinner?"

"That is not the point Asher, at least I had good intentions when I prepared it. Please, just take me to the Golden award night," Abigail begged again.

Asher didn't say a word.

Abigail sighed, folding her red lips, "Atleast, tell me, was Dave who won the award?"

"Do you want him to win?"

"Of course not, how can a scum like him who stole someone else's work win a film award?"

Asher paused. Abigail, who was gritting her teeth, realized that this topic seemed to be off-topic.

She reached out and lightly tugged at the corner of Asher's shirt, "You promised to take me to the Golden Orchid?"

"I did not." The man stood up straight.

"Asher, I know I'm overdoing it, but I really can't help it, now Dave is a big star, it's so hard to see him. If there was any other way, I wouldn't have asked you to help."
Abigail blinked fiercely at Asher

"What's in it for me if I help you?" Asher said, and Abigail couldn't stop the words that rushed out of her lips.

"Are you seriously negotiating with your wife?" She asked in disbelief.

But Asher only sent her his usual cold stare. "Fine, if you don't want —"

Abigail cut him off, grabbing his shirt.
The corners of Abigail's mouth twitched lightly, but this proved to be hopeful.
"Asher, what do you want?" They were all adults, there was no need to beat around the bush.

"I want you." He said flatly, his words echoing in Abigail's head over and over again.

"Me?" She said, her eyes boring hard into Asher's intense stare. The air in his office suddenly grew too hot for her. He wanted her. She thought again as her breathing became labored. For the first time, she had no words to say, so instead of saying something foolish, Abigail turned for the door and raced out immediately.

She ran back to her room, panting. She made sure that Asher wasn't chasing after her before she closed the door to her room, but she didn't dare to lock it, after all, this was also his room.

Immediately, she made a video call to her friend.

"Girlfriend, did it work?"

Abigail began to narrate everything to her friend, not leaving out the tiniest detail. She also told Mia about the beautiful woman she saw alone with Asher in his office and down to what he wanted from her in return for his help.

After Abigail was done narrating everything, Mia sent Abigail a disappointed look. "You humiliated yourself by running away, what a surprise! Asher actually loves you."

"Don't you talk nonsense, he loves Jade, he can't be in love with me, he just wants to use me as his sex toy."

"Abigail, can you use your brain?" Mia said frustratedly. "The man wants you. And you are his wife. I don't see anything wrong in you giving your loving husband what he wants,"

"I don't want to, Mia. What's the point when we don't even consider each other as real couple,"

"You don't, but I can bet that he does," Mia leaned closer in the video. "It's your choice to make, girlfriend. But remember, Asher is your only ticket to see Dave. See, if you manage to conquer Asher, then you have conquered the whole world. So stop being so abrasive, or you may not see Dave for the rest of your life."

Abigail whispered, "How is it possible that I won't be able to meet him for the rest of my life? But okay! I will try my best."

Mia smiled, "Okay tell me, how are you going to try? you can't cook properly and you don't want to accept his condition"

"Mia, can I ask you a question?"

"Ask me whatever you want," Mia said,

"How did you manage to change your boyfriend like a change of clothes?"

"So simple. Frankly, having to stay with one man is so tiring. So why not taste different flavors,"

"So if you suddenly woke up and found out you are married to a stranger, it should be easy to accept, right?" Abigail asked.

"Girlfriend, if that man is like Asher Reed who has everything a woman could ever want and he's handsome too, then it's hell yeah!"

"It seems you've forgotten what it feels like to be with a man, don't worry girlfriend, I'll send you something that'll help," Mia rushed, and disconnected the video call before Abigail could speak.

Just as she said, she sent a video to Abigail immediately. Abigail was curious as to what the video was about, she downloaded it and hurriedly clicked on it. The video started playing, showing scenes of a man and a woman having sensual sex.

Unfortunately, Asher came in just at that moment, surprising Abigail who immediately threw her phone, which landed directly into Asher's hands.
